btw there's nothing wrong with intergenerational friendships and it is in fact super important for teens to have healthy, respectful relationships with the adults in their lives because it will help them more easily identify when an adult is being toxic, manipulative, or otherwise unsavory if they have healthy relationships to go off of.
"A grown ass adult shouldn't have anything in common with a teenager" okay so you're either operating off of an assumption that either teenagers don't have anything of worth to contribute to a conversation, or that adults aren't allowed to have fun hobbies.
I talked to my teenage cousin for like an hour the other day about character motivations and the core themes of one piece and had a blast talking to her! She had some real insightful things to say!
Teenagers are fully realized and complex human beings! You can talk to them about music, books, video games, hobbies, etc. Stop being weird about it

On This Road - Juan Arango, Ft. Nia Marie
Directed and Edited by Kaylin Smida
Written, performed, produced, mixed, and mastered by Juan Arango
Director of Photography: Zury Lowell
Recorded at Flux Studios NYC
New York, NY 2024
I directed and edited this music video in 2024. Juan sent me the song and gave me a general concept, and from there we were able to get together and film it in just 2 days.
I already had a DV cam that I knew would give me the look I wanted, I just didn't want the pressure of shooting it lol. So then I got Zury to hop on and take care of that.
The editing was a fun process. It was challenging at times, I knew there was a look I was going for, and a vibe for the edit that I wanted, it was just the puzzle of figuring out where everything needed to go.
I think this video is such a fun slice of New York, both real and staged. We follow Juan and Nia Marie on their journey to meet each other at the studio, into making this song, into sharing it with friends, and their journey back home again.
Yeah it's a simple concept overall, but I think it's still very uniquely Juan, and what he wanted from this music video.
I really want to get back into making more stuff like this. I love a DV cam look, I think there's just so much that can be done with it.

not to oversimplify an extremely complex discipline but if i had to pick one tip to give people on how to have more productive interactions with children, especially in an instructive sense, its that teaching a kid well is a lot more like improv than it is like error correction and you should always work on minimizing the amount of ‘no, wrong’ and maximizing the amount of ‘yes, and?’ for example: we have a species of fish at the aquarium that looks a lot like a tiny pufferfish. children are constantly either asking us if that’s what they are, or confidently telling us that’s what they are. if you rush to correct them, you risk completely severing their interest in the situation, because 1. kids don’t like to engage with adults who make them feel bad and 2. they were excited because pufferfish are interesting, and you have not given them any reason to be invested in non-pufferfish. Instead, if you say something like “It looks a LOT like a tiny pufferfish, you’re right. But these guys are even funnier. Wanna know what they’re called?” you have primed them perfectly for the delightful truth of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker

Give up. Stop fighting for a world that is already dead. Spare your heart from being trampled upon. Give me one reason to keep fighting.
You sent me three cynical messages like this. If that's your prerogative, go ahead. I can't stop you. However, the fact that you're asking for one more reason to keep fighting tells me you want another reason to keep fighting and you haven't actually surrendered to despair yet. Our enemies cannot stand our existence. They cannot stand actual virtue, actual kindness, actual compassion for fellow human beings. They think that everyone is like them - miserable, corrupt, and out for themselves; that other people are a resource to be exploited. And it pisses them off so much when we deny it and we continue to help each other and help ourselves. We SPITE them. If this world is as bad as you say and it intends to swallow us all... then I say make them choke on us. If only for spite, if only for one last middle finger - to kill us, but not defeat us. I shall continue to fight for a better world and to help save who I can, because it is the right thing to do. In the immortal words of Captain Picard:
