It seemed to Ralsei like a relative rarity that Kris had opportunities to speak for themself. Not that he necessarily knew how to tell the difference. He was aware of the fact that they carried this SOUL with them, that it had some impact on them. In turn, he tried to do what he could to support them. To get them moments to breathe without its influence. It was difficult for him to tell what was and wasn't them at times, but he made efforts to try to distinguish them in his mind. They weren't unkind to him, and he chose to believe that this was true to them. Susie certainly seemed to think so.
It was his surprise, then, when they chose to use this freedom to tell him off. To chastise him for his way of thinking about himself. It made them mad? He blinked in surprise at this. “H-Huh? Kris?” Susie had expressed a similar sentiment, though this was more in line with how he knew her to act. With Kris… Well, they were an exception. He didn't always know what to expect from them, beyond what was foretold of their adventure.
They expressed concern over his kingdom. Was it true, that one had to love oneself before passing it into others? He wasn't sure. It wasn't a sentiment that he felt terribly comfortable with. He loved Kris and Susie, despite who he was. Despite knowing that a Darkner shouldn't allow himself to become so attached. Especially one with a fate such as his.
“I guess you're right. I could be doing better…” He'd tried all he could to make the Castle Town into a safe haven for everyone. All of the recruits, along with Kris and Susie. But he didn't act like a ruler. Like a prince. “I know that they all came for you.” It was Kris who had recruited everyone. Their Castle Town. “I want to do what I can to make sure they have what they need, but I don't think they'll listen to me. Especially when their last rulers were…” Well, King, Queen, and Tenna. None of whom treated them well. He had hoped that kindness would be what would sway them into staying. “They were recruited through us sparing them! I didn't think I was too off-base…” He may have chosen to focus on the wrong part of that sentiment on purpose.
On that, he was willing to learn. He wasn't used to this either. Having friends or having subjects. If they had notes for him, he was willing to listen. “What do you think? Should I structure the town differently?”
His tone slowed as his smile faded more into one of discomfort. He knew that wasn't what they'd meant. They didn't need to make that clearer. “I'm sorry. But you don't need to worry about me. I'm… I'll figure it out. It's just silly Darkner stuff. I don't want to stress you out with it.”
It hadn't been easy for Kris to look at Ralsei to begin with. Something about him always felt so akin to Asriel. It had hurt to be around him, yet thankfully with the SOUL in control it became easier to block everything out. That was what Kris was best at a lot of the time. Ignore the problem, delve deep into the abyss of detachment to hide. It was easier to not care, easier to remain disconnected from the emotions that hurt to feel. Remain in their bubble alone and safe.
But, it was when Kris saw Ralsei's "room" for the first time that they finally felt a bond of understanding form towards to Ralsei. He was playing a role, the same as they were and when looking at Ralsei more closely they saw many differences he and Asriel had. Both in how they looked and how they acted. It was clear now how empty Ralsei was deep down much like how they were. The persona he showed up till now was created purely to please Kris and Susie.
Ralsei never did anything for himself, even seemed to fear the very concept of having a self. It was very unlike how all of the other Darkners they met up till now acted. The other Darkners had defined personalities, some were more simple than others but they did feel more alive when compared to Ralsei. Ralsei let everyone walk all over him both emotionally and physically just to make them happy.
There was almost something deeply sickening about that. It reminded them too much of certain aspects of themselves. Least more recently with what they were being made to do with the SOUL along with Carol and the Knight. Kris had no choice but deep down they resented their freedom being taken away from them. If Ralsei was in the same position he would likely do everything without complaint. A perfect follower! Just like Carol always wanted from both Dess and Noelle. It made Kris sick to their very core.

"Stop this crap about being just a tool. You're making me mad seeing you act like that. The other Darkners have purposes sure, but they have things beyond that. You ask if its ok for a Darkner to act like a person but you're clearly just tormenting yourself with that way of thinking. You're supposed to be the ruler of this kingdom Ralsei. As bad as King, Queen, and Tenna were they all at least showed some level of authority. You're not just here for me and Susie you have to care for the other Darkners too. They're your people now, if you don't care about youself, how can you ever care for them? If you're not careful King or Queen could turn everyone against you."

The tension was evident in Susie's demeanor, with the way her shoulders squared and her fists clenched tight. He had hoped that a bit of contact might show her that he was here, that he meant his words. Or, at the very least, to ease her into relaxing a bit. To some degree, it worked. He watched as she released her closed fists, freeing her palms from the sharp points of her claws. He allowed her the time to gather her thoughts.
What she chooses to express aloud doesn't necessarily help either. She chooses to highlight his sacrifice for them, a term he would refrain from using himself. The word sacrifice… It carried such a weight to it. Such a gravity. To sacrifice something meant that it had value. But the life of a Darkener, particularly when compared to that of a Lightener…
He held his tongue on this. The simple fact that he tried to prevent himself from viewing it that way, to avoid lending himself that level of gravitas. But she seemed to realize anyway that it wasn't an easy task for him. It was hard to force himself to clutch this idea with his own claws, when she tried so hard to sway him against it. To convey to him that, at least to her, he had meaning. He hesitates, surprised himself that she could, for just a moment, make him consider speaking further on it. To affirm her statement without expounding on it further.
Thankfully, she doesn't press. He isn't sure how well he could maintain some of this if she did. Though in a way, her patience is another twist of the knife. He wished that he could tell her more. That the idea of sharing these things didn't make him think that he might speak them into existence. Instead, he seizes the one thing he finds the safest.
“Susie, you're not weighing me down!” he insists quickly. “If anything, you and Kris have made me feel… the lightest I've felt in a long time.” Even with the prophecy weighing him down, the inevitable end he could only dread, their presence was a net positive.
Maybe… Maybe he can venture just a bit furthers with this explanation. “Doing all of this for you guys isn't a burden for me. I want to! I… I want this place to be nice for you. Since I can't go back with you, I want to do all that I can for you while you're over here.”
Susie didn't realize how tightly she was clenching her fists until Ralsei's gentle paws rested on her arm, somewhat grounding her, in a sense. Her claws had dug into her scales, leaving indents in her palms, and her shoulders were so, so tense. Like him, she wasn't used to having friends—she wasn't used to having people around that gave a shit about her well-being.
Ralsei and Kris had been the first to care for her in a long time.
She doesn't respond right away. Her gaze is still downcast, her head turned away, refusing to look at him at all. He was so kind to her, in a way she wasn't used to, even after everything she had done to inconvenience him throughout their adventures in the Dark World. Susie knew she was difficult. She was impulsive and rash, and at first, quite rebellious, too. She fought back against the prophecy for the hell of it. She didn't think she was capable of being the hero this world needed.
"You..." She tries to choke out. "You're... Man, you piss me off, y'know that?" Susie finally looks back up at Ralsei, and the somewhat bitter smile on her face both pairs with and contrasts her statement.
"You sacrifice too much of yourself," Susie continues. "How can you keep putting all of your thoughts and feelings aside for me and Kris? I know you've got all kinds'a crap eating you up inside, Ralsei. You don't hide it very well." She lets out a brief chuckle.
There's a lingering pause as her smile drops.
"I know you've got some crazy secrets, man," She mumbles. "As much as I hate it, I won't make you tell me. You do that when you're ready. In the meantime, I... I just don't wanna be another thing weighing you down."
'I'm used to handling things alone.'
The statement dies on her tongue.

@fatexbound sent: ❛ i didn't realize it was you when i first saw you. ❜ from Makoto to Akira (prompts for pre-established connections and creating history between characters) ☾
Dealing with this new reality was nothing but a chore. Maruki had stated this was meant to be an ideal, and yet Akira was miserable. Alone while surrounded by his friends. He'd been taking steps to try to work them out of it, and yet he was torn. Torn between wanting to snap them out of it by force, so he wouldn't be alone in this, and wanting them to find a way to maintain that happiness. To not remind them of this suffering they'd all endured. To say it was taking a toll would be putting it mildly. It was getting harder to get up everyday and go find one of his friends, to speak to them as gently as possible in this matter. To softly urge them to come find him when they reached some conclusion.
He was walking at the station when he ran into Makoto again. She was alone this time, and willing to chat him up. At least a little. Maybe this was his consolation from Maruki. An assurance that his friends were the same. But he knew this wasn't the case. They weren't his friends anymore. They were more distant now. What had made them so close had now no longer happened. He had half a mind to pretend he hadn't heard her and kept walking. They wouldn't get anywhere anyway. But he remained.
“Oh, hey.” He didn't look into her eyes, instead looking over her shoulder at nothing in particular. His eyes were tired, and his hair messier than usual. “What's that supposed to mean?” He knew that he felt terrible, but he didn't know how much it reflected in his appearance at the moment. If he wanted to read in the least charitable meaning he could -- which WAS the mood he was in -- he may even choose to comment that they just weren't close anymore. Not here.

@inclususbody sent: ❛ i need you to listen to me. ❜ from Kris to Ralsei (prompts that start with 'i need...') ☾
Anytime Kris had something to say, Ralsei was ready to listen. They had a habit of remaining fairly quiet. It was something that he acclimated to throughout their time spent in different Dark Worlds, and it made it all the more important to hear out what they had to say. Even when it was influenced by the SOUL. Some part of him wanted to be able to tell what was their decision as the vessel, and what they were guided to do. But he couldn't. The best he could do was to observe and follow along, attempting to piece it together for himself. Even to give them opportunities to speak for themself by redirecting the SOUL.
This was to say that such a request was going to be readily heeded by Ralsei. As much as, say, Susie requesting a hug, as it seemed to him just as rare, despite his willingness to do both. “Of course, Kris!” He attempted to observe in their expression what it may be about, but this was always easier said than done with them. “Do you need something?” He was ready to offer them whatever he could. Whatever they might need on this adventurer. Both because it was his role in this, and because he wanted to. There may have been some level of empathy in there, but he purposefully avoided digging so deep.

Zen couldn't claim that anyone suspecting him was necessarily wrong for thinking so. He knew that he was built (after putting in the time to ensure this was the case), and that his looks did save him from many of these preconceptions. He had done 'bad things' in the past, and he knew he was capable of them, if only for the sake of survival. Couldn't everyone? Luckily, he had his girlfriend by his side to help cover for him.
She was swift to protest his comment, and she was correct about that much. As an actor, one had to find at least some level of skill in improv. Sure, some were better at it than others, but part of the thrill of a live performance was finding ways to cover for the unexpected. Someone else flubbing a line, an extra forgetting one entirely, a malfunction… He had to be quick on his feet. For Chaesun in the moment, this meant a swift reframing. “I was testing you to see if you could stay in character.” An airtight defense, surely. Her counter was to strike a pose as a testament to her 'complete and total ordinariness.'
“I wouldn't think a girl so beautiful could pass as ordinary, but not everyone can see the garden for its flowers,” he remarked in return. She was correct in her statement that she had earned a reward after all of this hard work. As she relaxed and settled into the couch, he finished carrying the few groceries they'd picked up into his small kitchen. There was plenty of space to stock things away, saving back the greatest component -- their dinner for this evening.
Her request, once settled, was to have their food brought to them, something he readily acquiesced to. Their warm dakgangjeong was brought out with chopsticks for two, paired with pickled radish and a bit of salad. “I may not be able to cook for you, but I'll still serve you,” he assured, offering her up the chicken first, and placing the rest beside her on the couch. He did have to make a trip back to the kitchen for chopsticks, but he returned with a pair for both of them. Simple disposable ones, to avoid dishes. As was his habit. Then he had to put on some water for tea, but he didn't want to stop her from digging in if she was hungry.
“This is some of the best local chicken.” It was a shame that the supermarket held such a title, but he couldn't deny the flavor. “It always makes me want chimaek…” He didn't feel tonight was the night to crack open a beer. Not because he didn't want one, but because he wanted to remain alert for her sake. They'd been safe so far, but after the day they'd had, it seemed to him like it would pay to be safe. Now, tomorrow might be a good opportunity for drinking to forget. “Let me know what you think.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀His comment earned a raised brow once they were safely back inside. It had unfolded how she imagined it. Some were wary of him, but since they went about their business without doing anything criminal, no one bothered them, and they even kept away from them. “ Uhm , excuse me , mister pro actor . If I’m not mistaken , weren’t you also whispering to me and making me laugh ? ” Chaesun struck a pose, like she was an idol or the heroine from some dramatic work of fiction, winking confidently with one hand on her hip and the other holding up a peace sign. “ Besides , it was my complete and total ordinariness that kept everyone out of our business . You should be rewarding me for a job well done instead . ” Looking so smug while saying something that sounded self-deprecating was quite an odd combination.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Though she had stolen Zen’s heart, it was very clear why she and Seven got along so well sometimes. When this was all over, she wanted to get to know him more and become best friends. The heat of her maybe boyfriend’s fury would have to cool first, though. Not only that, but the redhead only let people in so far. Her stance relaxed, and a puff of air left her, along with the stiffness of her body. She had been playing it off, but was relieved they made it, too. Having faith regardless of the chances happened to be one of her greatest strengths. If she couldn’t believe in herself, she could count on him. In her eyes, there was nothing he couldn’t do, which might contrast with what he may have concluded when thinking about how limited his options were when she was in the clutches of a violent individual.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Being in a cozy, safe environment again allowed her to calm down further. They had reinforced the best-case scenario. The two could safely go outside without coming face to face with those crazed, mint-colored eyes again. That was good, though. It meant that their night could be somewhat normal now, and for a few hours, she could focus on spending time with her crush and getting some well-needed rest. Something might change between them very soon; it was a feeling she had. Her stomach sounded again. “ I would like that reward in the form of food right now , please … ” Her voice was small, practically a whine as she stepped out of her shoes and melded with the couch.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Chaesun had done so much today: party prep, had a life-threatening encounter, and put all that aside to go to the store with the person she had eyes for. Such fluctuations in sentiments and mental states on little sleep had finally physically caught up to her. Adrenaline was still present, but only enough to keep her alert. Her mind nagged at her to help him with the tea or to just grab her meal herself, but the rest of her rebelled. Zen said she wouldn’t have to worry about anything until the morning, and she didn’t need him to say it to know he wouldn’t go back on tha, so she held her tongue, biting back the profuse apologies that would have reflexively leaked from her mouth.

@oredca sent a starter for beanix! ☾
Keiko fiddled with his porter ID badge, hooked right onto his belt. It was on an retractable badge, so he can simply beep into anywhere he really needs to go without the fuss of unhooking it. And right now? He's just checking on the patients, seeing if they're okay. Not his job, as he's fairly new working here. But he still wants to learn the layout of this place - and hopefully make his social skills better.
Though he was soon approaching Phoenix's bed, clasping his hands together as his lips awkwardly twitched before he spoke.
"Oooh...Messy...Want me to clean this up for you, sir?" His words were breathy, shaky and rather quiet. He hadn't even turned his body fully - just his head, "I mean- someone could trip up if they visit you. Then-" Keiko would make a sound as close to bones breaking as he could before snickering as if it's the funniest thing, "Y-You know? I know this is a hospital, but I'm sure the Doctors would haaaate to deal with more patients. This piano thingy especially is a major hazard."
Staying in the hospital like this did feel a bit excessive. While Phoenix could understand the initial concern, considering the event, it was once he'd heard back on the minuscule extent of his injuries that he'd decided that he didn't really need to be too careful while he was here. It was a change of pace, and it presented some advantages, but there were certainly drawbacks too. For instance, nurses who wanted to come in and prod at him.
He'd received a large collection of DVDs, and had already been visited by Miles by now. He'd even sent off Apollo and Trucy for the day, so all that was left was to relax. As much as he could amidst all of this.
A stranger dropped by to offer his assistance. One with an ID, but who wasn't wearing the scrubs of a nurse. Certainly wasn't the doctor, either. He eyed the stranger to commented on the placement of his various gifts. That they could be easy to trip over. "Really? I hadn't noticed," he answered, as if he hadn't gotten out of bed even once today. Despite the fact that he'd done so for an earlier checkup.
“The 'Director' seems to have a wandering eye. I'm sure he'll see it,” he answered with a casual shrug of his shoulders. He'd never been a fan of Hotti, or Hickfield, or whatever the guy was calling himself now. Especially not with Trucy stopping by to visit. Though he doubted he'd need to explain that comment much. “I think the movies are sorted, too…” Knowing who they'd come from. “Probably best to just leave it.”

Naoto carried with her a Junes branded umbrella. He recognized it as an adult-sized version of the one that Nanako had gotten previously. He was sure that the elementary school wouldn't let the younger kids out in this sort of storm, but when it came to a high school, they'd have a much harder time keeping people inside than letting them out to make their own poor decisions. Particularly when people like Yosuke, Kanji, Rise, or Yukiko would have to get out and help their families out after school.
In lieu of the broken umbrella, Naoto had to resort to using her bag to keep herself safe. Now that they had the gift of shelter, she could shake it off. Thankfully, their school-issued bags were semi-waterproof for this exact purpose. Well, not using them as umbrellas so much as concerns over the rain. If she got it mostly dry now, then none of it should soak into the fabric to set into its contents. He offered a hand out to offer to take the broken umbrella for her to provide her with an open hand to work with. “A raincoat wouldn't do much for the force of this, though.” It would still feel like being pelted.
Her suggestion of a jog back home was certainly an… appealing one, with the way that the droplets of rain shot down at the pavement, creating a steady splashback. Jogging in this seemed like an easy way to trip and fall on his face. “I could attempt it, but… I'd rather not. I don't have anywhere to be.” There was no rush other than making sure he was home to make dinner so Nanako didn't feel the need to try to do so herself. “I haven't seen anyone else out… I hope they've found some shelter.”
Torrential downpour combined with heavy gusts of wind meant umbrellas were as good as useless. And indeed, that was the fate that befell her cheap Junes brand umbrella. It had turned inside out during a strong burst, and with one hand clamping down on her hat, there was no way to turn it outside in. The standard school issued bag was forced to become a makeshift umbrella while she carried a broken piece of garbage around.
Luckily or unluckily, the one who would see her in this state was Narukami. “Well,” Naoto started, showing the broken umbrella, “this didn’t help. I should have brought a raincoat.” With one hand holding her useless umbrella, she shook the bookbag, removing whatever droplets she could. It had done a decent job of keeping her hat mostly dry, having been squashed between that and her head. With one hand occupied, she couldn’t wring water from the soaked areas.
“I believe we’re trapped here until the downpour subsides. Unless you wish to go for a jog.” She eyed the area outside of their makeshift shelter, rain pelting the pavement like machine gun fire. From where they were currently located, the Dojima household was closer than her apartment—which meant if he were a daring enough soul, he could make a mad dash. “I think someone with your courage could attempt it.”

PROMPTS FOR PRE ESTABLISHED CONNECTIONS AND CREATING HISTORY BETWEEN CHARACTERS * assorted dialogue for giving your characters a history and giving them past things or events to talk about, adjust as necessary
do you remember what i told you last time?
have you been doing well since i saw you?
that's not what you told me back then.
when was the last time i saw you?
you were shorter then.
i'm picking the restaurant this time.
we've known each other since we were children.
always knew i could count on you.
that time was different. this is worse.
you're not going to let me live that down, are you?
i seem to remember a conversation we had back then.
so you changed your mind about it?
do you remember our encounter in paris?
you should know me by now.
am i the only one that knows the truth?
we had a lot of help back then.
your mom told me to look out for you.
you just love bringing that back up to annoy me.
maybe don't mention my past indescretions?
this was never going to work out between us.
i told you not to get attached.
i know more about you than you think.
i was there, remember?
i'm not about to forget all the shit you put me through.
you told me you were going to try and make this work.
remember what i said to you?
the last time i saw you, things were good between us.
you never mentioned this before.
that was the longest flight of my life, and you made it worse.
can i still trust you after all that?
at least we tried to make something work.
we never discussed what happened between us.
okay, but i'm driving the car this time.
i haven't forgotten what you said last week.
i'm still thinking about your comment.
i didn't realize it was you when i first saw you.
you seem to make a lot of enemies around here.
there's not much for us to talk about.
we worked it out last time.
i know you far better than you know yourself.
we have a long history.
is that the shirt you were wearing last time?
what don't i know about you?
i haven't told them about us.
you were the only person i could go to.
you know me.
this is bigger than both of us.
i can't stand your driving.
are you taking me to the place we had dinner last time?
that's not at all what you said.
didn't we agree on that?
i thought i made it very clear where i stand.
are these the same people that came after you last time?
are you still going on about it?
can we talk about it?
staying silent about it won't help.
you're the only person who knows the real me.
this is a bad time to talk about your problems.

Of course, Yoosung could understand the social isolation that grief brought about. The distance that one ended up feeling from others, who simply didn't understand. Didn't feel the same way. Clearly couldn't have, as they didn't reflect it as openly. Anyone that Chaesun had relied on in that time, whether human or animal, could be considered a valued friend. He had made some friends online in that time playing LOLOL, and while he wouldn't introduce her to them (mostly for the sake of sparing her, though it would be nice if he could convince them that she did in fact exist), he could understand her desire to do so. He was glad to meet someone who had played such a pivotal role in her life, and expressed this as readily as he could.
She offered her assurances that both her and Curry believed in his ability to navigate this relationship, and if this were true, they had more faith in him than he did himself, considering his uncertainty in navigating the uncertain waters of romance. He didn't exactly know what he was doing, but he was feeling his way out with it, finding out how he expressed his love along with her. He both wanted to see what kind of boyfriend he would be, and work hard enough at it to become just the sort that she needed. That she wanted, even. This included noting down in the moment her note about garlic soy chicken being a meal she enjoyed making, and one that curry enjoyed as well. Surely he could try his hand at something like that, right? How hard could it be? It could make for a nice surprise sometime…
“Chicken? That makes sense! I was wondering if it was fish, but maybe he's got more of a land palette…” Then again, what sort of cat wouldn't like fish? He figured it was more likely that the feline was less picky than more.
As he worked to comfort her, he could feel the way she relaxed into his embrace. Yet she was quick to regain some of it with his suggestion that their beloved relatives may be looking down on them. It was something he liked to comfort himself with at times. The idea that while Rika was gone, she would still be watching him eagerly to see where he went and what he did. She'd be proud that he had a girlfriend. He was certain of that. So, too, would Chaesun's mother, it seemed. At least she had managed to fulfill these requests she was given, right? To make friends, join a club, and find someone to settle down with.
He couldn't help but laugh at this as a sort of checklist of her time since she showed up in the chatroom. “She really asked for all of that? I wonder what she would think about us at the RFA…” They were a club of sorts! Stretching the term a bit, sure, but it was close enough. If they were up there chatting, he was sure that Rika would have briefed her about their organization and the charitable goals they had. Who wouldn't be proud to join? Whether for social purposes, or for any other reason? “I'm sure Rika could explain her vision for it better than any of us could.”
There was one relative remaining who he could have met, in theory. Yet just because he was alive, didn't mean he was around for introductions. He frowned at this. “I wouldn't?” He thought he would like meeting any of her relatives he could, but if she had a strong believe that this one was an exception, he was inclined not to doubt her. “I see… I don't have to meet anyone from your family you don't want me to! I don't think we need to rush to meet my parents, either…” The reasons for this seemed a bit less personal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Seeing Yoosung plead his case to an animal was pretty funny. Not everyone would treat Curry like a legitimate friend of hers, but he understood the implication. Chaesun was a young woman who lived by herself for half a decade. If her closest companion wasn’t a person, that showed how antisocial she had been since her mother left the world. However, it had always been a habit. People were complicated, emotional. The easiest way to deal with them was to make a good impression, then fade into the background until forgotten. Her parents had expected enough from her, going from one country to the other, listening to them fight in the other room, staying with one while the other was only present through phone calls, and she did it all with the brightest, sunniest smile. Any connections beyond that would have been too exhausting. Worst of all, they might have seen what her home life was like and worry about her constantly. Troubling everyone else would add more complexity to the front that she put up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The love she had found in that crazy mishap was clumsy along the way, but Chaesun had fallen nonetheless. His heart was so gentle, yet strong. He was the one she was most afraid to lose once he discovered how difficult she could make an otherwise normal relationship. “ Regardless of what you were going through , Curry and I can tell you’ll be a great boyfriend , Yoosung . ” From the first time he confessed his interest in her in the chat, she was certain such a sweet person would treat her well. " Oh , and it was chicken that I marinated in a garlic soy sauce . I knew right then we'd find a way to get along . We both love chicken ! " She preferred hers fried, but even she didn't dare have such an unhealthy meal every day. Curry yawned, then jumped onto the back of her sofa for a nap. He was barely worried about the discussion at hand.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀As her other favorite guy comforted her, her body relaxed in his arms. There was a tension in her muscles that she hadn't been aware of until then. It wasn’t long before some of it returned once he praised her. " Maybe . Mom was constantly nagging me toward the end . ' You're a bright and charming girl , Chaesun . Make some friends , join a club . You need to live your life . Don't worry so much about me . ' And then she'd try to pry into my non-existent love life . ' There must be at least one person with their eyes on you , ' she'd say . " The brunette laughed humorlessly. " I bet she's up there shaking her head in disbelief , knowing the circumstances that finally got me to join a ' club ’ and find a man . She can't complain now ; I did everything she asked . I bet she’s getting all the details about you from Rika . ” Pulling back, she looked up at him as her smile diminished slightly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀” It’s also kind of frustrating because one of my parents is still alive , but I can’t introduce you to him either . Although … I don’t think you’d want to meet him . ” Her father was a touchy subject. Chaesun avoided speaking about her family and the trauma surrounding them like the plague, but Yoosung could relate to the grief regarding her mother. Talking about her was a joy for the most part. The same couldn’t be said for the one who introduced her to loss, to blame. Her new partner had a strong sense of justice, always the first to speak his mind when he felt something was wrong. It was likely a safe assumption that he wouldn’t like that her father abandoned her, forcing her to care for her sick mother by herself while she was still in high school. To this day, she believes that it was her fault he left, and that someday, when they got to know her, the RFA would see what he saw and they’d leave her, too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ I hope what you said is true . I want at least one of them to be proud of me . ”

@rudebvster continued from here! ☾
Somehow, Susie was… good. She was such a kind monster. Ralsei had seen it in her actions so far. The way that she treated Kris, and the way she behaved towards the Darkeners, as if they were real monsters, secured that in his mind. Despite what the prophecy had foretold to him about who she would be, she was so kind. She made it seem so easy, when maintaining optimism could be such a chore for him.
All of this for him. Someone who was, in reality, little more than an object. Sure, he was the 'Prince of Darkness' in title, but… he wasn't real. Not in the way that Susie and Kris were. The prophecy had laid it all out for him clearly. He was meant to serve their story, to fall into line when those ancient words called him to. His job was dependability, and yet…
Yet Susie insisted that she didn't need it. She didn't need his help, despite what the writings had said. Despite what all of her behavior so far had led him to believe.
“Susie…” He hesitated. She'd insisted to him that he not emphasize the fact that he wasn't real. That they were truly friends, and that they would change the tides of the prophecy. These stopped his normal talking points in his tracks. He had to reach for something different from the shelf. Give something new a try.
He reaches out to settle a hand on her arm softly, the fuzz of his paws light against her arm. “I really do want to help you… You and Kris. You mean a lot to me.” He wasn't used to allowing himself to feel this much. To recognize his own wants outside of a choreographed rule. But even outside of this grand meaning assigned to them by the text, his friends meant the world to him. “Please. I… I know there's not a lot I can do, but there has to be something.”
