Okay, so here's what I think I'm settling on for the moment:

Morain Blackthorn's father is one of the three Enchanter Kings that rule over the Nameless Zone. (Or, at least, the part that the foxes reside in.)

At some point, her father is killed by an evil being from the Land Beyond, which resides across the Dimension Bridge. Whether this is specifically Trogg or not doesn't really matter; they're a powerful entity seeking conquest with an army of wicked creatures at their disposal.

The two remaining Enchanter Kings create a barrier that will prevent the forces from the Land Beyond from entering the Nameless Zone.

Morain's older brother, Errol Blackthorn, is removed from his position as the leader of the guard in order to begin training to eventually assume their father's previous position.

In turn, Morain takes her Errol's place, but she's not happy with the current state of things. She wants to take the fight to them and avenge her father's death, and feels as if merely biding their time like this isn't the correct thing to go about things.

With that being said, on their own, the foxes most likely aren't enough to handle the enemy army. They will have to look for allies elsewhere if they hope to contend with them, yet even then, their options are limited. The foxes and goblins certainly aren't on good terms with one another, and the centaurs are likely not prepared for an army of this size, either...

For now, until a more permanent solution is found, they can only hope the barrier will be enough to hold them back.

Well, she can at least respect the other's ability to keep her composure while facing the business end of a blade. Morain stares at her warily for a few moments before slowly lowering her sword.

"Morain."

"You're in the Nameless Zone. And as far as I'm aware, the only way for those outside to get here is through a portal conjured by magic. Did you travel through such a portal?"

"Hiya." Relatively calm and friendly for having a sword pointed at her.

"Names Perci, I was passing through and not gonna lie, I'm really lost. Can you tell me where I am?"

Morain is already brandishing her sword and pointing it toward the stranger. "State your business!!"
