I've been planning to make this comic for so long now, but a strange feeling of shame has stopped me, year after year.
Today is IDAHOBIT, the international day against LGBTQ+ discrimination. I feel like now is a good time to share it.
It's easy to slip into shameful silence because of survivors guilt, because "it wasn't that bad". But it was bad. Homo- and transphobic violence is bad and needs to be talked about, especially in a time where homo- and transphobic rhetoric is rampant and normalizes seeing us as lesser humans, normalizes hurting us, verbally, legally, physically.

Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you

I need Fatiha El Ghorri and Guz Khan in a buddy comedy where they solve crimes together and he'd go "there's been another revelation" every episode while she rolls her eyes

you really can reach a point with transgender enlightenment wherein you can attribute any bodily feature silhouette and detail to any gender regardless of typical cisgender aesthetic connotations. anything can be a man's body if the person in it is a man. anything can be a woman's body if the person in it is a woman. anything can be a genderless body if the person in it is genderless. and so on. the only thing that matters is the personhood within and whether you are willing to look and know and see it. open your eyes. keep trying until you no longer flinch or turn away in shame or anger or confusion.

"We can handle one 10,000-person protest, but ten 1000-person protests throughout the city will overwhelm us."
-LAPD Chief Michel Moore, discussing the 2020 uprising
Decentralization is key. Don't let anyone tell you our movements need centralized leadership or control.

why bother caring about the environment when 1. It’s so obviously a lost cause and 2. There’s definitely going to be a nuclear war?
And what are you doing about it Anon? Learn about ecological restoration or get out of my way.

"With the boys, one artist handled the three looks, costume-wise. When we first see them, we really wanted this bubble gum pop, very saccharine, super sweet look. The middle one is very brief, you see it right before they turn dark. And for the end, I really wanted them to look like the iconic Grim Reaper with the hat which is much more traditional. It has been done in K-pop before, but only because that is a traditional Korean look. We also tried to light them in more of a silhouette, because the hat is such an iconic thing. We just wanted to show the polar opposites of what a boy group could be."
─ Maggie Chang (Director) for Cartoon Brew
#it's fantastic and it really encapsulates the trajectory a lot of boy groups take in terms of concept#they start with the sweet cute bubblegum pop first#and then as they grow older and more popular their concept shows that maturity#(not that cute/bright concepts are immature. but i'm talking about a traditional/conventional sense of maturity and growing up)#and they move into darker/more hard-hitting concepts

I don’t tell you this to make you upset. I tell you this so you know the truth. Surrendering to Trump’s tyranny only invites more of it. We don’t have to give in. We must call on Congress to reassert its power — and vote to stop Trump from taking further military action. Presidents cannot start wars without Congressional approval. We must remain vigilant in guarding against Trump using any military conflict as a pretext to attack our freedoms. Please, be safe. Be strong. And do your best to stand up against this unlawful Trump regime.
