Warrior cats of the forest! its more of a... personal tag than anything, as a sorting method fjdhfh It could functionally stand for nothing also and have the same purpose

I can't tag everything as warrior cats since that would make kits/apprentices/loners/etc show up in the search, so I added another catchall so people could filter out the non-design posts :>

What's your opinion on Appledusk?

Hoo boy this one's a toughy! I haven't read MV in a while so forgive me if I'm misremembering anything.

The impression of Appledusk and Mapleshade's relationship I got was that Mapleshade was incredibly controlling - to the point where one of her motivations for having kits in the first place was to basically say "I own Appledusk, he's mine". Already in the first chapter at the gathering, you see Appledusk pulling away from Mapleshade and into Reedshine. I got the feeling that he had been trying to split up with Mapleshade, but wasn't given the opportunity/wasn't listened to. I don't remember if this was ever explicitly stated in the book tho so this might just be interpretation lol

He shouldn't have cheated on Mapleshade, that's a given. That said, I don't think his crimes even slightly matched with Mapleshade's an he definitely didn't deserve to be killed for it (or have his new mate be attacked! He cheated on Reedshine as well).

I also don't think he was too out of line to turn his back on Mapleshade after the kits drowned, since.... Well, his children had just died. Whether it was her intent or not, Mapleshade had the biggest hand in the kits' deaths at the time and without much else to go on, it makes sense he'd blame her. Obviously that wasn't exactly fair to Mapleshade in that moment, but it's also quite a bombshell to drop on someone and you cant expect them to act 100% logically.

I think Appledusk is a really fascinating character and quite nuanced, so it's hard to quite put into words my thoughts on him. But I do like him overall, even if I don't like aspects of his character.
