         Gentle, soft snoring could be heard. He’d had a rather eventful day. Running into the Whisper who had become a father-like figure to him... That Whisper also saying how he'd try to be a butler again for him until his own Whisper came back? It'd been a lot to take in, even though he was happy enough his lips curved as he slept. Smiling in a way he never did anymore. A soft laugh even left him as he slept.

         For the first time since he'd gotten the watch he felt like things would turn out okay for once.

                Whisper may have chosen somebody else? But surely almost anybody else would have easily been the better choice. Kuma was big and strong, Fumi-chan was brilliant and cute, even Kanchi was worth more than he was, the did decide to tell him this almost every day.

                “You… You really think so?” he questioned, tilting his head. He was timid, unsure of himself. The watch was often a somewhat heavy burden but one he’d never trade. All the adventures he’d had, all the friends he’d made. That was worth so much.

                “Thank you…”

Headcanon; Life Expectancy of a Yokai Watch User

Almost none of the watch users live past their 30's if they get their watch like Keita did. It's a sad truth of the burden of their lives.

They're mortal, this is a sad fact. All mortals eventually die, some sooner rather later. For Yokai Watch users, their bodies are under constant duress as they walk the thin line between the human plane and the spiritual plane.

This already has the watch users with one foot in the grave as it is, as messing with the spiritual world is beyond dangerous!  Keita in all the various media of YW is further proof of this danger. Stopping typhoons, giant monsters, traveling through time, having his memories wiped clean, getting trapped in time to boot?

It's no small wonder that under so much stress, their bodies... shut down early.

「Whisper」:

he knew it.

“…oh… i– i’m so sorry, my dear.” empathetic sorrow tints his voice, gentle baritone wavering with worry. the poor kid doesn’t deserve this– to have all this work placed on him and lose a vital support. he knows keita’s own whisper is much more important to the boy than he himself was to katie, so whatever took the yokai away must have been trying to be cruel. and thus, SORROW turns to ANGER… and INTOLERANCE.

“who did that– who did that to you?? i’ll make them pay.” last sentence is spat in the midst of a protective snarl, and his grip tightens. when the papa lion is awake, he’ll protect his cubs with his life.

"I guess... it's part of becoming... older?" he mused, shaking his head "Whisp... It's okay, really... This is just another test by the yokai world administration and I'll pass it with flying colours, really!" he laughed, trying to calm his friend and father figure down.

"They told me... he was needed elsewhere... That it'd be okay..." he was trying hard to appear strong as he shook his head. "Thanks, Whisp... for holding me like this..." he added, closing his eyes.

"I really appreciate it, you know...?" he muttered, giving the other the best smile he could which was admittedly still fairly weak.

"I needed it."

Headcanon; The Yokai Watch’s Legacy Please read as this is very important to who Keita is.

Keita is the creator of the yokai watch, or rather his grandfather is. When Keita traveled back into the past by way of Hovernyan he got to see what an amazing person his grandfather was and meet so many legendary yokai of old!

His grandfather Keizou was... especially amazing, crafting a watch unlike any others, even managing to find a way to create the medallions now used today. Keizou started a legacy within the Amano family one that remains with it.

This legacy puts even more pressure onto Keita as the name 'Amano' carries a lot of weight. He is the one new yokai watch users turn to when there is trouble, he will be the first one the yokai world comes to when they're in need.

It's a large weight on his shoulder but he bears it proudly for this is his beloved grandfather's legacy and as a member of the AMANO FAMILY, he'll have it no other way. tldr; Keita is the one in charge of all yokai watch users, as his watch is the ORIGINAL copy.
