As someone who is mixed with Indigenous and faces this shit ALL OF THE TIME because I don't "look correct", scream it louder, my god. Y'all do not understand the trauma that comes with wanting to engage with what is quite literally your own fucking heritage, and being attacked on all sides for daring to. It makes you feel like you don't belong anywhere. Like your very existence is an affront and an offense.

Before anyone comes for me, and the fact I feel the need to say this is emblematic of the problem, I'm a Métis Nation citizen. It's not a "distant claim" I'm making. It is literally wanting to engage with my own people.

There are gonna be people who won't like hearing this but if you want to live in a world where mixed marriages, families, and adoptions (particularly POC adopting outside their "race") aren't maligned and discriminated against, then you have got to get more chill about seeing someone partaking in something cultural that you don't think fits the "race" you perceive them as.
