Progress on my Vergil cosplay #3
Tumblr media
Hi!! It's been almost a month (!) since my last update. In the past weeks I've been devoting less time to the cosplay due to work/life stuff, but I managed to make significant progress and I'm happy to say that it's almost complete! The con will be on September 27th so I still have plenty of time to finish things up. Even though some parts aren't perfect, I'm very satisfied with how it's turning out.
Besides the costume, this month I had to work on building a cardboard replica of the Yamato. I actually own a stainless-steel replica but unfortunately, it's not allowed in the con I'm attending. So I had to make a harmless version because Vergil without the Yamato is just... not possible XD That sword is his actual best friend! So I tried my best to make a sturdy enough cardboard katana and the result is this:
Tumblr media
I know the blade isn't very pretty, but I didn't manage to make it thinner 🥲 Also I was afraid that it could break during transportation (the con is in another city), so I rather have it ugly than in pieces. Also, I can always use the steel replica for pictures if I want a more accurate look. I still need to make the sccabard though, I hope it turns out decent lol
I spent around two weeks working on this katana, then I went back to the costume. Turns out I had to disassemble all the coat's parts because I decided to add lining to it. Yeah, I should have done that very early, but I had thought that the coat would look good enough without lining. It was a lot of work but I managed to add the lining and it looks so much better now! Plus with the buttons on the lapels, it's starting to look like Vergil!

I also finished the embroidery of one sleeve and I'm almost done with the other. I decided to make the body and collar embroidery with my sewing machine (using zigzag stitch) because doing it by hand would take AGES and the con is next month. So maybe in the future I'll come back to this to do the embroidery by hand, but not today lol
Remember when I said I messed up my previous wig? So my new wig arrived last week and it looks dope! I had to style it with lots of hairspray to add texture, but it looks very nice and has a lot of hair. Only downside is that it's kinda small, so it almost didn't fit my head (and I don't think I have a big head lol) Yesterday I decided to try the wig and the makeup I'm planning to do, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how it turned out:
Tumblr media
FACE REVEAL BTW! I tried to use make up to make my face less roundy and I still need some practice, but I'm very satisfied with the result. When I come to think that I went from cosplay noob to this in just a few months, I feel very proud of myself ❤️❤️
And it ain't even finished, as you can see, I'm missing one of the coat's sleeves because I'm still doing the embroidered pattern, and it's easier to work with it detached. So we can all pretend that Nero tried to rip off my arm as well hahaha
So that's it for this update; hopefully the next will be the last one and I'll finally show you the finished costume. I'm very close to become the storm that it's approaching! ✨
Thank you very much for reading and for keeping up with my project. See you soon!

Progress on my Vergil cosplay #2
Tumblr media
Here I am with a new update post about my Vergil cosplay! It's my first cosplay ever and I'm trying to build most of it from scratch, so it's been a lot of work, sometimes frustrating but sometimes very rewarding. Let's see what I managed to make in the past two weeks.
At first I was planning to make a female Vergil cosplay just for fun, but then I decided to enter the cosplay contest of the con I'll be attending, so I had to change it to male Vergil because of the contest rules. They don't accept genderbends/non-canon versions of characters.
However, the only thing that changes between the two versions would be the hair: I'd use a longer hair for the female version. So I tried to cut and style my wig to make it shorter and... I ended up ruining it (╥ω╥) I didn't even take pictures, but it looks VERY weird when I put it on my head. So I just gave up styling and ordered a new one, more similar to Vergil's hair. Thankfully there's still almost two months before the convention, so the wig will probably arrive in time.
Now for the costume itself. I was planning to wear a blue waistcoat that I had laying here because I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out a pattern for Vergil's vest. Everytime I tried to make a prototype, I failed. Until I burned some neurons trying to draw it and FINALLY I managed to make something that worked!
Tumblr media
I just feel so smart for creating this from scratch! LOL I mean, I made my own pattern! It looks very clean and I love the result.
I also have been working on the coat's embroidery, since it's a lot of work I try to make little progress everyday. Today I sewn the lapels and it's starting to look more like Vergil's coat. The vintage buttons that I'm going to put on the lapels and sleeves also arrived today, so I probably will be working on these details next.
Here's how the cosplay looks like so far:

Sorry for the low quality photo, my phone's camera is shitty sometimes.
So that's what I have so far. Like I said, sometimes it feels SO frustrating that I feel like giving up, but then when I remember I'll get to be THIS ↓ man for a day, I feel MOTIVATED:

Thank you so much for reading and for keeping up with my odyssey ❤ (ɔˆз(ˆ⌣ˆc) See you soon!

This weekend's progress on my Vergil cosplay
Tumblr media
I ended up making very good progress since yesterday, most of it dopamine driven lol Right now I'm very -ahem- MOTIVATED to do this cosplay and the fact that it's actually turning out good makes me more inspired to keep working.
This is going to be kinda long, so I'm putting a cut here. Stay with me if you want to know how a cosplay noob is managing to make her first cosplay of the coolest Sparda (sorry Dante).
Last friday I printed and cut the pattern pieces for Vergil's coat, and yesterday I planned to at least cut the first fabric pieces. After I cut them, I thought: why not sewing them? In the end, I made the basic structure of the coat, all in one day:
Tumblr media
I have not sewn the lapels and the collar yet because I want to make the snake-like pattern first, but OH BOY this is looking nice! I had to size down the pattern because even the smallest size was too large for me, but it worked! To be honest, I'm a newbie at sewing but doing the black zip-up vest taught me A LOT and I made a lot of mistakes that I (hopefully) won't be doing again.
I used a 100% cotton fabric for this because I live in a tropical area and I'm going to wear this next September for a con, when it's spring here. It would be unbearable if I made it out of leather or a synthetic fabric. I also don't want to put lining on it because of this same reason.
By the way, I tried all the things I already gathered/made for this cosplay and I just felt so cool! This is how power must feel like LOL:
Tumblr media
Everything here will be fine-tuned for the final version, but I already like it a lot!
Today I didn't make a lot of progress because I've been out all day, but I decided to print out the pattern for the embroidery on the sleeves, and made a stencil with it.
Tumblr media
At first I was planning to use fabric paint to paint this pattern on the coat, but then I decided to try and embroider it, AND IT LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER. I have some experience with cross-stitch so it helped, but I still want to practice more in this piece of fabric before moving to the real thing:
Tumblr media
In the game's model you can see this pattern is actually embroidered because Vergil has some really refined tastes in fashion, so I'm going to make this coat the best quality I can.
So that's it for today, I hope to bring you some good updates over the next days! Stay tuned~

Hello there! I'm Moshikarin and I'm currently working on my first cosplay: Vergil from DMC5, female version. Yeah, it's my first cosplay and it's Vergil, I probably hate myself.
Since those premade cosplays are too expensive, I'm trying to build my own! Tonight I just finished this black zip-up vest. It still needs some adjustments, since it turned out larger than I intended, but I'm so happy because it's the first garment I made myself! Yay! ( ´ ꒳ ` ) ♡ I used this pattern by the way.
I'm thinking about wearing this blue waistcoat over it because I can't figure out Vergil's vest for the life of me (。T ω T。) I know the color isn't exact the same, but I'm hoping that when I wear this + coat + wig + sword, the overall image will resemble Vergil lol
I also got this gray wig, but I'm not sure if I'll try to make those glued hairlines because I want to use it for other cosplays too. I'll just see what I can do with those bangs.
By the way, I'm doing the coat next. Yeah, you read that right. Wish me luck!
