You aren’t a failure if you aren’t productive in a way society expects. This applies even when you’re having a good day and could be productive but decide not to be. When we are too drained or in pain or whatever else our chronic illness is causing us, we don’t get to enjoy rest. It’s something that’s forced on us.

It’s okay to have a day where you intentionally rest and take care of yourself even if your body is having a “good” day. This is productive in itself and you’re allowed to take time to enjoy down time.

Sometimes being disabled feels like you’re surrounded by people with superpowers, and you’re the only regular human.

Because I don’t really feel like I can do less—I feel normal. I’m so in tune with my own body, my own abilities, my own experience. I’ve lived this way for so long.

But then I look at other people, and see how much more they can do, their stamina, their resiliency, and I’m…baffled. Befuddled. Astonished. They seem downright superhuman compared to me. They seem like goddamn superheroes.

Black trans lesbian needs help with living expenses after being homeless during pride month

hello, I'm Equinox, I'm a mixed black disabled intersex trans lesbian who needs help stabilizing after being homeless for a while. i am schizophrenic, autistic, and bipolar, and i have hypermobile EDS, fibromyalgia, arthritis and other health problems. during this Pride Month, it would really mean a lot to receive some assistance with my living expenses. my birthday also falls on June 6th and it would be nice to receive anything at all as I do not currently have the means to celebrate my birthday due to where i'm at financially. a lot of my income goes to my job: shipping supplies, tape, printer ink, jewelry chain, jump rings, clasps, and so on.

my rent is $178/month. I need help saving for July's rent. I also need help saving for my electric bill and internet bill.

I dream of a future where all forms of AAC give people the option to swear, to talk about "gross" things, and to have as full a range of vocabulary and topics as the users want. It is no exaggeration to say that limiting a user's ability to speak on certain topics because they cannot access the speech through their AAC is silencing.

I’ve started chanting “I’m so safe, it’s kinda strange” to myself when I’m in scary situations, like having to cross a busy intersection on my bike or walking home in the dark, because leaving it at “I’m safe” never quite worked for me (and this almost rhymes, so I don’t forget). I’m so safe that anyone who knew just how safe I am would think it’s strange. And I’m so safe that it’s a little unbelievable! And I’m so safe that filmmakers would fight on who’d get to make a documentary on just how safe I am. If you tend to get afraid of these types of things easily, maybe this little chant could help you, too. You’re so safe, it’s kinda strange..
