Bigotry is never the fault of the people it targets. Ever.
A Native person being an asshole does not turn you into a racist. A trans being an asshole does not turn you into a transphobe. The Israeli government did not make antisemitic. The Chinese government did not make you sinophobic. Etc, etc.
Those are choices that YOU make. Any attempt to shift the blame onto the group your hate is targeting, whether it's an individual or an extremist group or a government, is an excuse. End of statement.

okay now I'm curious and I dunno if this is really such an archaic foreign thing to young people today or if I'm just out of touch
Please reblog, I'd love to see a lot of responses!

I think the state of media analysis on Tumblr would be much better if we could get our brains around the idea of "feminist media" (or anti-racist media, etc, etc, i just dont have a good general term here) meaning media which explores themes related to feminism and is intended to be interpreted through a feminist lens and "feminist media" meaning media which has a measurable feminist impact on the world. The way that we analyze media as storytelling and the way that we analyze it as mass communication seeking to impact the world can and should be different. We need like a second dichotomy of Doylist/Watsonian but for "does this work support x theme within itself vs. does this work support x theme in the wider world" because a work's internal philosophy and real world impact can vary widely and I think it just frustrates everyone to be trying to talk about one when other people are misinterpreting you as talking about the other.

...what is the "sex is just rock climbing" category
It was kind of a joke between me and a friend ("you wouldn't judge someone for having gone rock climbing with a bunch of different people") but honestly the more I thought about it the more I bought into it unironically because:
It is a physical activity done with one or more partners
You should only go rock climbing with people you trust to not let you fall
You should not go rock climbing with someone who is drunk or currently incapable of rational decision-making
Some people get super super super into rock climbing and do not shut up about all the places they have climbed and how many are left on their bucket list and these people are usually men between the ages of 20 and 35 and like it's fine dude I'm glad you're happy but I don't know what most of those mountains even are
While many consider it a fun activity, pressuring someone into climbing when they don't want to (or ignoring their feelings and just dangling them off a cliff,) could cause both psychological and physical trauma
There is no moral value to it whatsoever. Who you have gone rock climbing with (or whether you have rock climbed at all) has no bearing on who you are as a person. Imagine telling someone "it's not that heights make you nauseous, it's just that you haven't found the right person to belay you!" or "you need to save your first time rock climbing for someone special." That would be absurd.
For some people it is a deep and moving personal experience.
historically I have not asked myself "will this aggravate my hip flexor injury" before participating when perhaps I should have 😔

it's so funny on here sometimes you make a post and it gets 5k notes and then later that same day you see some post made two hours after yours, clearly vaguely about your post, taking an opposite stance, and you're like "hang on. are we in an argument?" and then you can remember people can counter your opinions without wanting to beat you to death with their fists in real life. they can just disagree with you. believe it or not. i know we've all been on the internet a long time so we're scared. but it turns out sometimes someone reads your posts and thinks "i don't agree. i'll make my own post" and they haven't hired assassins to pull out your teeth.
i'm working on internalizing this
