Like okay. let's say hypothetically you exist in a world where you have 1 set person you're expected to spend your life with and they're expected to be basically your entire support system and also have the capacity to like seriously hurt you. and then this 1 person in the entire world who is supposed to be your support abandons you based on basically nothing except like a weird sense of exclusive ownership over your time. and then everyone else is like welllll i have my partner so um sucks for you i guess. and then he paints you as the cause of all his problems and his crazy ex girlfriend demoness witch who's out to get him and everyone just kind of believes him and when you retaliate against him hurting you he pretends like you started it. and everyone believes him. and then everyone ELSE sees you as the cause of their problems too. and even the people who tried to help you initially eventually are like okay well ive got my own problems bye. and then bcoz its not enough for you to be completely alone and ostracised by everyone they have to literally KILL . your DOG. and then after killing multiple people and like essentially the victory is rightfully yours even with like everything you've lost and all the insane horrific shit you went through. you two are the only ones alive and your literal last chance to have agency is being allowed to make the choice to kill him and win. and he BLOWS HIMSELF UP IN FRONT OF YOU BEFORE YOU CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE. and then is like Wowww guys aren't i so self sacrificial and kind and such a good person for sacrificing myself for her isn't it so romantic. and people are like omg yessss he is. and treat you as some kind of crazy yandere girlboss villain. and THEN he's like well you won why are you complaining 🙄🙄 you literally won. she likes to lie about what happened and twist the narrative to suit her haha. i can’t help but imagine how he would react when he eventually does flyby and mumbo Is home . or when he’s just hanging around and mumbo comes back . like he would probably yell for mumbo and give him the tightest hug of all time and like 50 consecutive kisses . even though they spoke not long ago . and mumbo would be all flustered but so so happy to see grian again . then they stick around each other All day just chatting and playing games and such before they both have to go back to their work,,,,, but every little bit before that grian would just ask How is mumbo doing because he wants to make sure his partner is happy,,,, and mumbo loves it,,,,

a phrase that kinda bothers me when talking about women's historical roles in europe is "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear it so often, those exact words in the same order even. and once you learn a little more you realize that the massive gaping hole in that list is fiberwork. im not an expert and have no hard numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if fiberwork took up nearly as much time as the other three tasks combined, so it's not a trivial omission.

it's not a hot take to say that the mass amnesia about fiberwork is linked to the belittlement of women's work in geneal, but i do think there's a special kind of illusion that is cast by "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear that and think "well i cook and clean and take care of children (or i know someone who does) and i have a sense of how much work that is" and you know of course that cooking and cleaning were more laborious before modern technology, but still, you have a ballpark estimate you think, when in fact you are drastically underestimating the work load.

i also think that this just micharacterizes the role of women's work in livelihoods? cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children are all sisyphean tasks that have to be repeated the next day. these are important, but not the whole picture. when we include all kinds of fiberwork—and other things, such as making candles or soap—women's work looks much more like manufacturing, a sphere we now associate more with men's work. i feel like women's connection to making and craftsmanship is often elided.
