A good rule of thumb for AI is "would you trust a trained pigeon to do this?"
"We trained a pigeon to recognise cancerous cell clusters and somehow they're really good at it" okay great, that's something that could plausibly be a thing.
"We trained a pigeon to recognise good CV:s and left it in charge of sorting through all our job applications" uh perhaps consider not doing that.

Why the hell have twewy fans not gotten on the joke of “tweet like you’re in this universe” bc that’s literally what twewy is. Imagine if there was an offline forum page the players could access to post about stupid shit happening in the UG and if you got just the right connection sometimes it wild slip into the RG and ppl think they’re trolling and it becomes a niche meme

And of course to follow up on my own post: Not. Even. Kidding that there's a ludicrous amount of goroawase puns and references in the game. A number of the artworks for districts in TWEWY contain goroawase (including for the Miyashita Park tunnel (38 for "Miya"):
Tumblr media
And Shibu-Q Heads (42 for "Shibu"--fun fact, "428" is a goroawase for Shibuya itself):
Tumblr media
And one could actually argue the renaming of the real-life Shibuya 109 (whose name itself is a goroawase pun--"109" can be read as "Tokyu", as in Tokyu Group, the owners of the Shibuya 109) and 104 can be read as "tenshi" ('angel') in addition to the obvious "four-is-death" punnery that the game is also rife with). There's...also some outright triple and even quadruple entendres with Route 5 and relationships with Minamimoto. The square root of 5 has a goroawase pun: 2.2360679... 富士山麓オーム啼く (ふじさんろくオームなく) 'Base of Mt. Fuji, a parrot cries.' (Or more loosely: "(As sure as) parrots caw at the base of Mt. Fuji...") The full meaning of that is...itself a bit of a cultural meme/idiom, in that historically the base of Mount Fuji had...a lot of tourist-attraction sites for people wishing to climb the mountain, including multiple sellers with aviaries of parrots (to the point it became known for parrots squawking). This became well known to the point it actually became an idiom that's the rough equivalent of "Is the pope Catholic?" (Despite sedevacantist claims, we're pretty sure the answer is "Yes") or "Does a bear shit in the woods?" (Yes, and they clean up with Charmin toilet roll afterwards, as Proctor and Gamble have been fond of reminding people for the past 30 years in an ad campaign) or even "Do the angles in a rhombus add up to 360 degrees?" (they do!). So basically, idiom for something Really Blatantly Obvious. What is at the end of Route 5, you may ask? Well, the Udagawa Back Streets, that's what (yes, as in where Neku was shot, as in where Minamimoto drew his Taboo Noise Refinery Sigil, as in where Minamimoto has his Leo Cantus Armo Incident in NEO, as in Where A Lot Of The Major Plot Twists Happen In A TWEWY Game) And, well, in NEO...people were at first disappointed when Minamimoto's birthday was revealed to NOT be on Pi Day but February 23rd...until it was realized this was a goddamn quadruple entendre.
2.23...as in "the square root of 5". As in Route 5, an area Minamimoto is CONSTANTLY associated with down to promotional acrylic standups produced for NEO:TWEWY. "As sure as parrots caw at the mount of Mt. Fuji" indeed....
You know i was watching someones playthrough of twewy and i completely forgot that neku just recited the square root of 3 of the top of his head???

There's an actual reason for that, and that reason is "This is a goroawase joke that either slipped past the original localization team or was considered SO untranslatable as to not be localized". So. Most of us who are TWEWY fans are familiar with how Minamimoto speaks almost entirely in math puns in English, and the PEMDAS and SOHCAHTOA references in particular are localizations of specific goroawase in the original Japanese script (usually relating to the square root of 2 or the square root of 5) and with some heavy double and triple entendres.
So what is goroawase, you might ask? Well, goroawase is a particular system of Japanese mnemonics for numbers, and dates, and other things that is a happy accident of the fact Japanese as a language has three different systems of counting (one native Japanese, one Chinese system that was introduced when Korean Buddhists entered Japan, and one based on English).
Tumblr media
Probably the closest you can get as an equivalent to how goroawase tends to be used in Japanese is a combination of how numbers on a dial pad for a phone are sometimes used to spell out specific names (an eccentricity dating from when letters designated exchanges from the OLD days of direct-dial phones) and "pi poetry" or "piphilology"--the idea of using mnemonics to remember many digits of pi. (Of note: One of the few areas where TWEWY:tA did localize things differently than in English...was, in fact, using a famous English "pi mnemonic poem" of spooky nature when Minamimoto recites an extensive goroawase for pi while drawing the Taboo Noise Refinery Sigil.) So there are many, many mnemonics of this sort in Japanese goroawase, and it is (hands down) considered one of the most "untranslatable" concepts in localization (TWEWY and NEO:TWEWY are actually considered master works in how they handled Minamimoto's extensive goroawase without losing the double entendres).
And as it turns out, a LOT of Minamimoto's utterances in goroawase--which are almost always rendered in katakana (like you'd see in a Japanese localization of a foreign name)--are VERY much double entendres; for example, one of his first phrases in the Japanese versions of TWEWY to Neku and Joshua is a goroawase for the square root of 2: 人世人世に人見頃 (ひとよひとよにひとみごろ) 'It's peoples world; peoples world. It's time to observe people.' (Or more loosely, "People, people everywhere, time for people-watching"). In English, this gets translated to a SOHCAHTOA pun in that same context--"Some Old Horses Can Always Hear Their Owners Approach". The insinuation in both...Minamimoto knows exactly who Neku's partner is, and that he's not a normal Player. "So what does this have to do with Neku, and that whole square root of 3 thing?" you might ask. Well, in Japanese high schools, goroawase is used in real life to memorize things like square roots...and Neku would have been familiar with that. But here, too, there's just a bit of a double entendre, and a very snarky one at that: 1.7320508... 人並みにおごれや (ひとなみにおごれや) 'Treat me as if you do to other people.' (Or more loosely, "Treat me like you'd treat other people".) And we DO see the actual goroawase for THAT spelled out later in TWEWY, when Minamimoto is discussing with Konishi (and in English responds to this in the form of a PEMDAS pun of "Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally!", and in TWEWY:tA follows THIS up with The Kabedon). The difference--the discussion between Joshua and Neku where he pops off the square root of 3...is written as the number itself in both English and Japanese (Japanese readers would be familiar with the goroawase associated with the square root of 3) whilst in Minamimoto's convo with Konishi it's written out in katakana (as is practically every other goroawase utterance he's made in the whole history of TWEWY, from TWEWY to NEO:TWEWY to the Field Walk RPG spinoff to the Reynatis "Yet Another Day" side story). And since the convo with Joshua and Neku didn't literally spell it out (it just used the number), and since that bit of an easter-egg/low-key snark would be almost impossible to actually localize in any meaningful way...it wasn't really localized at all. (And this could be some Neku snark--considering he's the one who notes the digits that make up that goroawase, and is probably saying it *as* a goroawase, and this is the point he starts having Questions--or it could be Minamimoto snark--considering who sent the mission to them to literally engage in a Tin Pin game to begin with.)
You know i was watching someones playthrough of twewy and i completely forgot that neku just recited the square root of 3 of the top of his head???
