. Serge Attukwei Clottey’s; Afrogallonism. A concept in which is concerned in highlighting ‘sanitation, migration, and politics,’ and the ‘interactions between Ghana and the West.’ Creating his sculptural pieces from yellow plastic containers supplied from the West, in which he transforms into home decor. Being made aware that you can remould such materials like the washed up old plastic and rope, I will embrace the story of these objects, like Clottey, creating functions that reflect such.

Who is allowed to be a victim?
‘I’m here to talk about the violence in silence; I don’t want to call it by-standing, that sounds passive. I want to talk about the active choice in silence.’
The powerful story of survival as a black, trans, gender non conforming person.

When reading back through my blog, I realised I had addressed my conscience in question-
“Could I have made a more conscious effort to engage and participate?”
I am opening myself to everything about Brixham I have shut out. Finally bringing attention to the insecure weight of hiding away from my own town, which I have grown ignorant to my whole life.
It is my curiosity
Like Abramovic - I am the subject to the alien environment I will put myself in when surrounding myself with these men, I am the outsider.
Yet with the fishermen being my subjects of exploration, in which I want to explore through first hand research- interviews etc, their vulnerability will also lie in the hands of my research. This creates a common ground of understanding, and acceptance.

I will look into the female fishers of Vietnam, particularly the fishing port of Phan Thiet. how much this environment contrasts with what I had grown up around. The bright colours, big smiles, and bossy leadership the women here have taken for their own.

In my project ‘You Me Them Us,’ as I interviewed my best friends twin, I got to the depth of finding her purest insecurities, and what had led her to degrade her own self in such a way. Creating a physical connection symbolising their bond through the garments, I created a performative process of unmasking Immy’s self conscious mole, the head piece purposely holding much weight, that lifts her as it is pulled off through the support of her sister Charlie. Not only did I get a new depth of appreciation, for the importance of attempting to know your subject better than they may even know themselves, through interacting exercises, such as interviews. But I learnt what it actually meant to interview, it is a skill to say the least, to be the interviewer you must create the comfortable environment with your manner, whilst also making conscious efforts to not carry where the conversation will lead to the extend of ignoring the possibilities through your ‘subjects’ response, to never interrupt but to also not make space for awkward pauses. I will take my conscious knowledge from this project, to take me into the lives, the thought process behind the crews that make the Mother of the Deep Sea.
Looking through all my projects, I always seem to conceptualise in support of my subject, how I can use my voice, through which is presented within the function, whether it be performative or symbolic. Not only display my understanding of the matter, but utilise as many different forms of research possible, connecting all, and creating new formations of creative possibilities.

‘Every man is an artist’
In 1973, Joseph Beuys explained the thinking behind his most famous phrase, ‘Every man is an artist’: ‘Only art is capable of dismantling the repressive effects of a senile social system that continues to totter along the deathline: to dismantle in order to build A SOCIAL ORGANISM AS A WORK OF ART. This most modern art discipline – Social Sculpture/Social Architecture – will only reach fruition when every living person becomes a creator, a sculptor, or architect of the social organism.’
Beuys revolutionary teachings that stem from his statement ‘every man is an artist’ breaks all misunderstood prejudgements of the the gap in between that of a creative designer and that of a working man. He is creating the bridge for the facade that may be seen ‘outsiders’ of the design world, just the everyday man, woman and child. We have grown accustom to a society which strays afar from something we do not understand, or want to give time to understand. With this lesson from Beuys I wish to connect the creative freedom that is to be a sailor, to weave your own mighty nets that engulf entire schools of fish. With the act of stepping out of your comfort zone comes the empowerment to release your true form.
