Does Sydney have any specific chronic illnesses or is it just vague he is ILL? Bc as far as I can tell nothing specific is mentioned but I figured you're the best person to ask (I'm trying to figure out how much I can project onto him in the fanfic I'm writing lol)

Ramble ahead on my own experiences: I've subconsciously been writing him with the pentad super syndrome, which at time of writing isn't an officially diagnosable condition, but is a newly researched possible genetic cause for a series of odd co-morbities curiously found in patients diagnosed with EDS.

The reason I am so interested in it is because I was diagnosed with EDS in 2020, and afterwards my immediate family began to realize it may a problem for all of us. In addition, we all experience sensitive GI, fibromyalgia, dysautonomia, auto-immunity, and "seronegative" rheumatoid arthritis, which I have reason to believe may be misdiagnosed MCAS. I have met other individuals with the same set of symptoms, and early into my commingling with the EDS community, "EDS and GI issues go hand in hand" was a head-scratcher we all knew about, but no one knew exactly why.

I have been following this research for the better part of a decade. I am most interested in the implications of MCAS--because my poor gran had misdiagnosed osteoarthritis nearly her entire adult life, and was untreated for her debilitating inflammation. That's over 50 years of suffering, pain, and disability because some stubborn rheumatologist refused to treat her for autoimmune inflammation. It wasn't until last year that a new rheumatologist started treating for "seronegative rheumatoid" arthritis that her inflammation went down.

I had been through this to a less extreme extent too; having obvious signs of inflamed arthritis and being told my tests were negative. This year I got my hands on prescription anti-inflammatories. Here was what my hands looked like all day everyday for over 2 years:

That goes for all of my joints. I couldn't even sit on my knees, yet because I tested negative for rheumatoids, it was untreated for over 2 years. More research on these genetic conditions can prevent this from happening.

In retrospect, I believe this was part of my returning from hiatus. I didn't look it, but I was quite ill and in pain in ways I didn't understand was happening. After the medication, I got a lot more productive.

So... all of these experiences and pieces of discomfort go to Sydney. These comorbities express differently for every individual. It expresses severely for me in the nausea department, so that may be brought out in Sydney more, but the generalized discomfort and pain from dizzyness, gi issues, hypermobility, autoimmune inflammation--plus, I have written him asthmatic.

That all being said, I don't care if you project something different onto Sydney. Severe chronic conditions which destabilize your life all have similar flavors of experience, and only look different in surface-level symptoms. My friends and loved ones with different but similarly severe chronic conditions still relate to me and vice versa. Sydney is for the everyman!

In light of the recent Game Changer finale, I think the decision to have "One Year Later" be the first episode of Season 7 was perfect. It's an episode which seems natural to put as a finale, hell maybe it was even pitched as such. But putting it first works so well because even though Vic has appeared on Game Changer before, this episode is the one that truly cements them as not just batshit insane, but such a specific breed of batshit insane that they act as the perfect foil to Sam. We watch this person rob him of his belongings and home, steal his wife, blatantly ignore the intended prompts in favour of ridiculous loopholes, secretly capture recordings of him in his own home, break his podium with a hammer, attempt to scam him out of thousands of dollars, make him eat sand, and god knows what else I'm forgetting. We watch them become the first person to ever score negative points on an episode of Game Changer. And then in the final episode, we watch them continue to do this, but now instead of forcing the crew to work overtime editing negative points onto their podium, they fucking win and become co president of dropout.

Vic is introduced at the start of the season via an hour long special episode in which they systematically destroy any semblance of safety or control Sam as come to feel on the set of Game Changer. They are then made president of the company he built from the ground up. I love this show, I have no notes.
