Hi chat, I've been working a lil project. Here is Mosu, a cv Japanese voicebank I made. While I do plan on distributing Mosu at some point, there are some kinks I need to work out with their samples. Giving I am American and just learning how to pronounce hiragana some sounds might sound off. they are currently just a cv voicebank, and I plan on making a vcv and an english voicebank when i have the motivation to record

Actually reblogging again for a tip for art: when you are doing your sprite work make sure you're also making a static model of your character. You're going to use this as a guide for proportions when making you create sprites.

Characters are not one drawing either, they're multiple drawings put together. The characters are animated like paper puppets if you catch my drift. Do not worry about having to recreate vanilla animations, the games auto compiler will do that for you. As for custom animations idk how exactly to implement them I'm sure it's possible but that's waaaay above my level of experience

So basically

- Static Model sheet to make sure your proportions are accurate.

- be prepared to draw and edit a lot of assets if you're doing a custom character. I'm not kidding this is probably the most important part, you're basically going to be drawing frames for the animation.

- don't worry if you're not an animator because the game will handle that for you (as in putting the animations together). Unless you're doing custom animations, then idk man.

Ok so. there is this post on the klei forums that was basically a LIFESAVER! It's a guidebook of sorts, which I would say is... basically a tutorial BUT it covers everything you will need, and even links to a DST CHARACTER MOD TEMPLATE! and be sure to download the Don't Starve Mod Tools off of Steam, that's how you can check your mod out and make sure it actually works :3

This template was basically my holy grail, it has literally EVERYTHING you could need, and has all your coding sorted out for you! Definitely look at the guidebook, it has visuals and a comprehensive list of every little tool you could need!

For actually DRAWING the character... it's a lot of drawing, checking, adjusting, and rechecking. I made my Wystie Mod a sketch first so I could figure out layouts, but you don't have to! Open the PNGs in your art program of choice and genuinely just draw over them!! It's how I made sure everything would line up and stay in DST's proportions. In the sample character template, everything is already cut up for you, so all you really ahve to do is draw and adjust!! Also i checked Wysteria in Spriter [download here for no dollars!]

You don't have to learn how to use spriter, btw! you don't use any of the tools because the character is already set up for you! I just use it for looking That's... sort of all my advice?? The guide goes over everything in great detail AND has pictures [which helps me tons, since I'm bad at tutorials myself] and I literally made my Wystie sketch mod in like. a day [Changing Wysteria's dialogue and actually lining/coloring is a different story, I'm still working on that!] and I've NEVER made a dst mod before ToT!! Feel free to pop in with any specific questions tho and I can totally help :3

That way, you don't have to open the game 25 different times to check if your code is working (you should still open the game every now and then to make sure your code is functional. It'll also highlight what is exactly wrong which is helpful when you don't understand code jumbo like I do) have fun
