this has been bothering me for a while but i avoided talking about it for… various reasons. mainly i don’t wanna invite discourse on this blog and im scared of what the reaction to this might be but…

i am super uncomfortable with the f/o or self-shipper flag or whatever it’s called. it’s the twink pride flag. the only thing that’s missing is the mlm symbol in the middle.

it’s just. this community already has a problem with not being inclusive to mlm and this just feels like an extra slap in the face. i know that twinks have kinda been turned into a meme by this website but that term (alone with bear) are important in the gay community just as butch/femme are to the lesbian community

i know it’s a lot to ask but i really don’t want to see one of the mlm flags taken and used in an entirely different context… stripping the original one of it’s meaning. i know it wasn’t intentional, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok

i don’t have a lot of followers so i doubt the majority (or even any) of the self-shipping community will see this, but i really felt the need to say something.

your dangerous and bad and callous f/o who destroys everything in their wake? your emotionally stunted f/o? your wild and unrestrained and loud f/o? they will NEVER make you feel unsafe. you are the one thing on this earth that they will protect and cherish and never want to break you down.

even if they don't quite understand how to express themselves, they never approach you with harmful intentions... even if it may not seem like it, they're open to communication with you, if for no other reason than they LOVE YOU!!!

they aren't going to get sick of you or dread you coming home. you're the very thing that relieves them of their hurt. conflict is NOT the same as vitriol and refusal to find understanding.

you are in love for a reason. it doesn't matter what kind of f/o you have or what kind of relationship you have... there is no question, not between you or from outsiders looking in, that they love you so much!

this is a healthy reminder that ur anime boyfie is hopelessly in love w you and his friends tease him about how he blushes when they mention you

imagine having a night in with your f/o to celebrate valentine’s day. you both cook dinner together, talking and laughing the whole time. the more skilled of you in cooking makes sure everything turns out wonderfully, and if neither of you are good at it, you might just agree to give up and order something. but that’s okay! because the act of trying it was fun enough for you both, and made for a great story to tell others about.

after dinner, the two of you decide to watch some movies, specifically some incredibly cheesy rom-coms that aren’t the best, but quite enjoyable to comment on as you sit on the couch with f/o’s arm wrapped around you. as the night goes on you both start to get tired, and end up drifting off as the third or so movie plays. f/o puts a blanket over you both and you fall asleep in their arms.
