black oil on your fingers, smudged through work. what are you working on?
You drum your fingers on the desk. Few opportunities and poor access to powertools results in more small-scale tinkering, though it's good to occupy your hands. Salvaged a dial pad. Replaced a button in a doorbell. Glued a shoe sole back on.
Of course, you'd never say no to helping Kim out when he allows you to. Applying your hands to colouring details of his aerostatic models with a tiny paintbrush is satisfying. He lets us pocket unneeded pieces of packaging after he upgrades the Coupris Kineema, too.
After last time, you didn't clean its grease from from under your fingernails. That's alright, perhaps it's good for you to carry traces of things you enjoy as you go about your day in a place like Jamrock. Not exactly close to heart but right on your blotchy skin. That *too* is an organ, Trant said.
Machinework is something that stays with you and stains. Hands develop callouses. Nowadays many opt for protective gloves but we prefer a more hands-on approach in most things, don't we?

You should always click a pen upwards of a dozen times over and over, just to see if it works. It’s the right thing to do

Neighbour or electrician, *pish posh*! We could figure out the fuse box situation better on our own, finger-boy.

The core seems unbroken - that's good, it means that we're not going to make a glue mess again. The repaired cube will be more durable, too.
All you need to do is to lower the parts into correct places, layer by layer. The first four are easy - they slide right in. Second layer complete. Now we need to align all but one topmost pieces.
This is where it gets a bit more tricky. You grasp the last remaining piece (a top layer middle, yellow and blue) between your thumb, pointer, and middle fingers. With remaining figers of one hand and the thumb of the other you delicately spread the hole. Don't overdo it!
The last piece slots in-between, while you rotate the layer 45 degrees to the left. You twist it slightly until you feel the peg hitting home.
You set the puzzle cube on the countertop and the flat surfaces slap together with a job well-done. All the little half-cubes are back to sitting in neat rows like they're supposed to. We were *built* for this. Feels good to know your purpose in the world.
can you help me with this puzzle please
Tumblr media
Er... no. You would need to *repair* the puzzle here, not solve it. In that regard the most help I could be is telling you where the pieces go, actually putting the pieces back in is your responsibility. You would find better help from Interfacing.

Instead of getting a pack of identical pens, you could get a couple of different ones and use the compatible parts to assemble a monster-pen. Better idea: gather all the pens scattered around your flat as well and make a Super-pen. A *Mega-pen*.
The colorful mug on your bedroom's windowsill still holds that broken insurance advertisement one you didn't want to throw away. Remember? It has a rubber grip with thickness just right for your big hands. This time you could put it on a pen with a spring mechanism instead of a cap—it would click!
It would be useful for to have a barrel with a plastic clip so you can secure it to your ledger to not lose it. I'm sure we could scavenge one somewhere with the clip still attached.
Oh? Tucked away in the debris built up on your desk is a spring from a ballpoint pen. You pluck it from its hiding place and roll it between your fingers.
They know what it will do best: as you squeeze, the wire compresses into a cylinder of tightly-wound coils. *Yes.* That's what springs are for. Just be careful to-
The spring escapes your grip and ricochets off the far wall. Oops.

Her patterned blouse felt slick to touch when you held her. As both of you moved, the satin slid and rippled under your hands, like a liquid.
something about you and that miracle / i will never see again something about truth and your lungs of gold / same as it was back then

The main difference between a bus and motor carriages you're familiar with is the lenght- you *must not* fall into the trap of relying on muscle memory because it *will* prove unreliable. Always stay mindful this difference, it would be a shame to bruise the rear of this boy.
Remember, brake *before* the curves, not after you've entered them. Also, do your best to follow their inner side. Don't forget to always check the vehicle's blind spots and always account for significantly more space to brake because we need to compensate for more weight.
Got all that? Doesn't matter, now get your hands *on* those gearsticks, finger-boy!
That seat on the bus? Yours. He can't deny you your choice of seating.
You'll figure out how to take the turns while you're driving.

Tugged and tousled by the breeze from Revachol's Bay, the Paledriver's brittle hair looked like those sticky gossamer threds we used to catch during Indian summer, long ago. The ones that weren't plucked from the air or caught on fences were blown away and lost in the blue sky.
Her eyes were glazed over- away.
Your fingers remember how the gossamer clung to skin. It's been a long time.
Are you implying the Pale is fictional 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
No, but being able to utilise it for purposes beneficial to your health *is*. Stop attacking me with your army of eyebrows.

You carefully untuck the overlapping seams and peel away the patch of adhesive, revealing a flattened stack of some kind of fabric.
Item gained: Indulgent Bed Linens
Oh. This feels *wonderful*. These are good quality, the thread count must completely put to shame anything you could say about your frayed duvet covers. The seams look sturdy too. These have been picked with durability in mind.
We will admire that later, now focus back on the *texture*.
The weave is smooth and so, so soft. Underneath the pads of your fingers and their army of fine-tuned receptors, the fibers mutter soothing promises. Like a sigh, you feel your muscles unwind.
...
You've been petting the fabric in silence for the last few minutes.
Practical *and* nice. It appears we have been outgifted.
The package is lighter than you expected. Less rigid too, the wrapping paper crinkles inwards under the pressure from your fingertips. It would feel satisfying to tear right into its concealed innards.
You consider the bundle. The peaks and valleys of the surface creases remind you of the last time you held a similar material. Say, wouldn't it be perfect fit for your painstakingly folded menagerie of little paper animals?

The hum of the radiocomputer is comforting under your dextrous fingers. A purring of electrical kittens. What litter of wires lays inside its protective casing? You should take it apart and see what’s in there.

You know what would make you feel better about your admirable self-restraint? Getting your paws on a cheerfully ticking timepiece.
Check out that gentleman waiting to cross the road; his wrist is winking at you in the sunlight. Come on, you know you want to!
It's always a good idea to take some time out of your day to admire a motor carriage. Your hands are sure that the metal curves would glide smoothly under your splayed palm.
See how the polished paint is smiling at you with your own reflection? This slumbering beauty is well cared for.

As you pass by, you reach an arm and allow your fingers to get caught in the chain links of a wire fence along the side-walk. The diamond patterning between the wires is delightfully even.

Remember to scrape out the grit and dust from the grooves of your tools. Take care of them and they will sing for you for long time.
If you give them a chance they are going to love you for as long as they're able. Metal is trustworthy like that.
