We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:

           Thoth, the Egyptian God of Knowledge.            He is a City Council member and law professor.

FC NAME/GROUP:  Luo Yunxi/Actor GOD NAME:  Thoth PANTHEON:  Egyptian OCCUPATION: Mount Phoenix University Professor of Law, Egyptian Pantheon City Council Representative DEFINING FEATURES: Tall and willowy figure, necklace bearing a golden crescent moon pendant that transforms into his crown at will, often seen with a pen in his breast pocket which transforms into his staff, a golden Ankh bracelet on his right wrist, usually carrying a digital tablet.

PERSONALITY:  With a great wealth of knowledge, arrogance would be expected, but arrogance is something Thoth lacks.  True, he seemingly knows EVERYTHING, but he is not boastful and he never uses information for personal advantage.  He is considered “the great mediator”, not only serving as scribe to the gods but also as counselor and peacemaker, the grand mediator.  As expected, this introverted deity favors the company of books over people, but he is by no means standoffish or unkind.  Quite the opposite, Thoth is very approachable and considerate, always respectful to others, and does not talk down to them even the slightest bit.  Though clearly wise, he prefers to take an advisor role as opposed to being someone in a higher leadership position.  Seeing every moment as a teachable opportunity, he has a knack for guiding others through a lesson of which they may or may not be aware is happening.  Though gentle as moonlight and just as soft spoken, his presence is weighted with the gravitas of wisdom harnessed within his very essence; gazing into his eyes, entire universes can be seen.  Yet it is also a comforting thought that despite his vast wealth of knowledge, he never abuses it.  He could, oh how he COULD, but he chooses not to do so, which also speaks volumes of his character.  But also, just because someone knows how to do something, doesn’t mean they have the capabilities to do it.  

HISTORY:  In the beginning, there was One, and the essence of all things produced its own sentient presence known by many names, master of mortal and divine law.  Thoth birthed the calculations that would establish the heavens, the stars, the earth and all things in between.    From there, he authored works of mathematics, science, astronomy, medicine, government, languages both written and spoken, seasons, and astrology.  He played a crucial role in designing the pyramids, creating the connection between realms.  

Along with Ma’at, he maintained the balance of the universe.  He laid the eggs that would hatch Ra, Atum, Nefertum, and Khepri.  When the gods squabbled, Thoth was there to record and mediate and is known as the great mediator of the divine.  When the battles became physical, he used his wealth of medicinal and magical knowledge to heal the injured party so neither good nor evil would have decisive victory over the other.  When Nut was cursed with sterility, he made a bet with Khonshu for 1/72nd of the moon’s light which resulted in the creation of five extra days in the year which Thoth then gave to Nut so she could bear children.  He taught Isis the words and ritual to resurrect Osiris and Horus.  

With such a distinct concentration of gods and demigods in one place, Thoth saw Mount Phoenix University as a prime opportunity to teach the young ones about both mortal and divine law in an attempt to maintain the balance of the universe.  Thus, he accepted the position of Professor of Law as well as a seat upon the City Council.

POWERS: 

SIEVE OF KNOWLEDGE:  As the God of Knowledge, Thoth has the innate ability to recall documented history, rituals, and magical spells from any moment of time, be it recorded through written, video, audio, digital, art, or any other mediums, including live theatrical performances.  This does not make him omnipotent, just an excellent source for verified information.

THOUGHT TO MEDIA TRANSFERENCE:  As Scribe to the Gods, he also has the ability to instantly transfer thoughts into a coherent medium such as a scroll, painting, or video for the sake of documentation.  In the cases of willing recipients, he can immediately transfer a thought from their mind to another with a single “pluck”, though this is reserved primarily for those who have difficulty articulating their thoughts.

THE ORIGINAL OMNIGLOT:  The creator of language, both spoken and written, he has the ability to communicate in any and all languages fluently, including those long dead and once forgotten as well as “made up” languages. 

STRENGTHS:  Intelligent, patient, calm, nonjudgmental, great at giving advice, considerate, master strategist

WEAKNESSES:  Introverted, know-it-all, stubborn, people who purposefully do illogical things for attention annoy him, tends to avoid large crowds.

Hello all! This is an announcement to let you know that we are going to be transitioning Mount Phoenix to Discord over the next few weeks. We have been on Tumblr for a very long time, but as the platform has only been declining over the last several years, we hope that Discord will be a more convenient and user-friendly platform for writing. This is a big change for us, but we are going to try to make sure that the transition is as smooth as possible for everyone, promise!

This blog will remain as our main hub for applications and IC/OOC information, but we will be moving all writing over to Discord once we have everything properly set up. We will, of course, keep all our members updated as we work on this.

           Rune Suwannee, a 21 year old daughter of Bastet.            She is a vet and the owner of Stop&Paws.

FC NAME/GROUP: View Benyapa/Actress CHARACTER NAME: Rune Suwannee AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 21/ January 23rd, 2003 PLACE OF BIRTH: Bangkok, Thailand OCCUPATION: Owner and Veterinarian at Stop&Paws HEIGHT: 5’6” (172 cm) WEIGHT: 99 lb (45 kg) DEFINING FEATURES: Rune has white cat ears and a white tail with the distinct nature of a Khao Manee cat. Along with the ears and tail, she has two very distinctly different colored eyes. Also a trait of the Khao Manee cat. Her left eye is a shade of green-gold, while the right is a calm blue. She has no tattoos or scars, she doesn’t pierce her ears, and her only other distinguishing trait is that she always has a somewhat ragged scrap of cloth tied around her right wrist like a bandanna. This is something she always wears.

PERSONALITY: Rune can be serious and stubborn but will have her playful moments as well. Sometimes it might be difficult to tell what she’s thinking but soon enough you’ll know her thoughts on something if she decides she wants to speak up about them. Rune can sometimes have a bit of a rough nature to begin with if she starts off on the wrong foot with someone. But, she’s not one to refuse to listen and hear someone out if they realize they did something wrong and choose to try and clarify or fix it rather than letting it fester. She can be affectionate to her friends when she wants to be and even more so with family. Though sometimes her feline nature might drive her to want some time alone. All in all, she’s level headed and understanding even though she can be a bit stubborn when she has a strong opinion about something.

HISTORY: Rune’s origin was a unique one. A rare twist of chance and happenstance where an oddly attractive man with a wife and a few children went on a business trip to Africa and caught the attention of a certain feline goddess while finding entertainment in an Egyptian Bar. Months later, that same goddess tracked the man across the ocean to Thailand where she gifted him with the child he had a hand in creating. This caused a bit of a panic for the man, he couldn’t just get rid of the child given the fact he’d received her from a goddess but he couldn’t keep her either. 

Thus he turned to a somewhat estranged cousin. 

They disagreed on many things but there’s one thing the man could trust when it came to his cousin, and that was the fact that they could keep a secret and could be trusted well enough with a child that could cause issues for his current family situation. With that aspect in mind, the man sent his newly received daughter off to this estranged cousin, having her grow up away from his family. 

Soon enough, the strange child was on her way from Bangkok to Chanthaburi… where Rune’s story fully began.

Life growing up wasn’t difficult for Rune, it was a bit… different than most given her feline features made it hard for her to legitimately go to school. Especially at the beginning when she was old enough to at least start primary school. Rather than send her off to a place where something as simple as losing her hat could cause questions… Rune’s guardian instead registered their home for homeschooling. She learned a lot, carefully kept on task with gentle guidance and a room where distractions were limited. (Her feline nature had made it hard at first but a solution was found quickly enough.)

Rune didn’t know a lot about her origin, her guardian had explained that while they were not her actual parent… they were related to them. Their values differed a lot and there would be no visits from her actual parent, but she had been given one thing as a reminder. Apparently just before she’d been sent to live with her guardian, she had grasped a blanket from the floor and gotten wrapped up in it. 

A small little thing, but it smelled nice(floral and sweet) and kept her comforted while traveling.

Over time, Rune grew up happy. She even gained a little bit of private knowledge, sometimes her guardian would get a phone call and though the conversation was always quiet… her sensitive hearing picked up little fragments of a male’s voice asking questions. She never heard her name spoken but it was clear her guardian and the man were talking about her. It wasn’t often, but it still gave her a little boost in the day whenever it happened.

Eventually, Rune decided to enter a faculty based around veterinary medicine once she’d graduated from her homeschooling. She’d always been curious and interested in the biology of animals and had thought that learning how to treat them could be helpful to her as well.

After a while though, Rune felt like something was missing. She liked her life and lived it well but she always felt just a bit… out of place. Like she didn’t fully belong. It was at that point where she heard of a place… a mysterious place where she might just find a life where she could feel like she belonged. She said goodbye to her guardian, thanked them for the years they took care of her and went off on her way to Mount Phoenix.

           Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld.            He is currently unemployed.

FC NAME/GROUP: Leo - VIXX GOD NAME: Hades PANTHEON:  Greek OCCUPATION: None at the moment HEIGHT: 187cm / 6'1ft  DEFINING FEATURES: 2 tattoos: skeleton key on his right arm, bident down his spine.

PERSONALITY: Tired, is the first word that will leave Hades’ lips whenever someone asks him how he’s doing. And there’s some truth to that single word reply, but the fact is that he doesn’t quite knows how to put his feelings into words, even less with strangers. Hades can be considered what in modern times is called an introvert, and a loner, keeping mostly to himself and going through his day to day. If he doesn’t crosses paths with another living being throughout the day, he will consider it a good day.

This doesn’t means that he will push people away, or that he won’t help those in need, the world is mistaken when they claim Hades is a cruel and conceited God. He has a strong sense of justice that keeps him from looking away when things need to be set back into the right path. It might be quite a task to get him to open up, even more to befriend him, but once one manages to get on his good side, he can become quite a loyal and valuable friend.

HISTORY: Hades suffered a terrible upbringing alongside his siblings, when his Titan father swallowed them at birth, terrified of a prophecy claiming he would be dethroned. Fear that became a reality when the youngest one, Zeus, helped free them from the entrails of their father, and he, alongside his older brothers Hades and Poseidon, were able to cast away the Titan, and rule over the skies, the earth, the waters and underworld. Call it bad luck, or perhaps fate, but Hades ended up becoming the Ruler of the Underworld, King of the Death, Lord of Riches. His main responsibility, to make sure that those Souls that didn’t belong to the Mortal Realm anymore, found their way to the Realm Beyond they deserved to be, as well as keeping those dark forces lurking in the shadows from getting out and harming innocent humans.

His close connection with the dead, the lost souls and a taboo realm were soon to provoke a misunderstanding, Hades was claimed to be a cruel and evil God, worthy of being feared. This proved to be somewhat of a positive outcome for the God that was better of alone. This exile caused him to lose on many events happening on Earth, prevented him from taking sides on needless wars, and allowed him to continue fulfilling his duty of guiding souls through the Underworld.

Through the ages, Hades became a supporting character in other’s fabulous quests, finding himself in the middle of situations created by other Deities. He wasn’t above helping others that needed him, whenever he felt it was right, Hades has a strong Sense of Justice thus in his eyes there’s not an evil nor a good path, just a righteous one that shall be respected. Whether it was lending his own Divine Items, or punishing those that deserve it, Hades will intervene in a way that will bring the situation back to it’s rightful balance.

But now, long gone is the age of Gods, and the humans that once worshiped them have forgotten about them, believe now they were always just a myth. Unlike many of the others, Hades never needed humans’ belief and prayers to survive, and he continued to Rule over the Underworld and fulfill his duty through centuries, occasionally returning to Earth out of curiosity, but keeping his human interaction at minimum. Personal bonds have never being a priority of his, but it can become quite the lonely life. Hades is not sure when, or from who, did he hear about Mount Phoenix, the Island kept on popping up in conversations he eavesdropped, and after a long time in self isolation he decided to take the chance at as much of a normal life as someone like him could have.

Hades’ arrival to the Island was kept under wraps, he didn’t want any fanfare he strongly believes he’s not worthy of. Being almost a forgotten God means he is not familiar with many of the other Deities there are, but his objective regarding his life in the island is of slowly living a fulfilling life that is more than just what he was ( forcefully ) entrusted to him, even if he has never forgotten about his responsibility and continues to Rule over the Underworld, from a different location.

POWERS: Necromancy, control over the Underwold and its subjects, Immortality, Invisibility thanks to the Helm of Darkness, complete obedience from canidae. STRENGTHS: Patient, Responsible, Diligent, Strong sense of Justice. WEAKNESSES: Socially awkward, Humorless, Callous.

The Circus is in Town!

This weekend only, the Fates of Fancy traveling circus is in town! Come one, come all to delight in everything the circus has to offer, including: daring, gravity-defying stunts; rare mythological creatures; delicious treats; and more!

Come one, come all! From the woods of Greece, a circus trope comes to the city bearing festivities in the name of Dionysus!

On the weekend of March 16 & 17, a troupe of nymphs will host Fates of Fancy, a circus performance thematically centered around the Moirai! The festival will be held in the open space of the Phoenix University campus and will host a large heated tent for both matinee and evening performances.

While the tent appears large outside, the inside expands even further through a magical spell. Mirroring most circus layouts, the audience circles the middle of the tent. Marble columns wrapped in vines hold the massive tent up. Vines travel all throughout the facility, creating chairs for the audience, rails to travel down the wooden steps, and a barrier between the audience and performers. Grass covers the inner circle, and the different ropes consist of three different types of vines, dependent on which fate the storytelling troupe focused on: leafless for Klotho, flowering for Lakhesis, and wilting for Atropos. The story follows a hero in pursuit of his lover, and in each phase the troupe shows the guiding hand of the Moirai to both the benefit and detriment of the star-crossed duo. With aerialists, clowns, acrobatics, and magic, the performers will keep residents on the edge of their chairs!

But don’t stop there! Additionally, the large main tent will be surrounded by medium-sized, heated tents that provided a variety of entertainment:

Mythical Wonders: In a tent sealed with magic to prevent creatures from coming loose, a strong nymph and no-nonsense centaur manages and oversee a zoo with tamed mythical creatures, including: unicorn/Pegasus, griffin, phoenix, minotaur, Stymphalian birds, and more! The Dining Hall: Once residents enter the tent, they will see seven different food stalls surrounding a large picnic area. The troupe wanted to celebrate the cultures of the different pantheons around Mount phoenix. A stall represents each pantheon, hosting a variety of carnival and festival foods specific to that pantheon.  Sweet Inebriation: While some alcoholic beverages may be served in the dining tent, it would not be a festivity without some of Dionysus’s finest wines! In the energy of partying, drunkenness, and freedom, a band of satyrs perform loud, intoxicating music. If that doesn’t help you unwind, the tables full of overflowing kylikes with Dionysus’s best wine will open your inner dancer! Fated Sight: A change from the wild parties in the other tent, this tent hosts a more quiet and mysterious energy. Behind a variety of curtained stalls, nymphs blessed with skills in divination await you to tell you what the future stores. Come with a friend, your lover, or by yourself, there is definitely much to learn.  Heavenly Reprieve: Only accessible to the gods, the tent serves to give deities a chance for relaxation, away from the presence of demigods. After entering the tent, passing small changing areas for those who need it, the gods will enter a marble bathhouse surrounded by large statues of various Greek gods holding vases that are pouring heavenly scented water into the heated pools. Along the edges of the bathhouse, plenty plates of ambrosia and wine glasses full of Dionysus's best, ready to be consumed.

The event will run from March 16-23 OOC, so please be sure to start your threads or other IC interactions within that time (although you can finish them up at your leisure). Please tag all event posts with "mp; fates of fancy". We hope you enjoy this event!
