A cat’s funeral
Today marks one month and one day since the passing of the proud little hunter, Tiger. Nineteen and a half year’s of frolicking and dominating a unique island of countryside, he grew into the model of freedom and health. With one visit to the vet as a kitten, this stubborn man decided that wasn’t his style, and began to live by his own approved health standards. You can imagine he lived a pretty carefree life, besides of course his constant competition of the other animal residents. Covered in his cat suit of camo and skilled to the bone, he was the more lethal real estate procurer on this dead end dirt road.  His menu selection went from humongous hares to red belly black snakes. He tousled with foxes, minced mice and ate banquets of bugs, however he respected the blue-tongue. On circumstances they shared dorms under the house, you see - they had boundaries, for their rainy day alliance. To be honest though, the menu selection was already catered for with fine dining and fancy feasts round the clock and on the dot. These presents from cat heaven were supplied by the one and only, his right-paw man, Routine Robbie. Tiger kept two keen eyes on him, and his thongs. He never strayed too far from his best friend, or his best friend's best friend, Susan Strong. So routine and strength were given to their little friend and together they made three. The stripey hunter quenched his thirst for adventure time and time again, going on escapades into the unknown for days on end, always finding his way home. Beaten bush tracks, trees in abundance and hardly a soul but a moo moo here and a moo moo there to disturb his midday naps.  But at last one fine day he was satisfied with life - how can this scrawny tawny lion be any fuller or content? With meadows of grass as far as the eye can see, with Routine Robbie by his side, he felt a sense of safe passage. Our best friend on April 1st, stretched out in the soft meadow sun for a final goodbye. With a heavy heart singing out our sorrows, we bid him adieu for his final hunt into the unknown. Long, live Tiger. Written for my mum and dad, S + R.
