Will Graham is an alpha but he is played by Hugh Dancy who is an omega which is why he is so often depicted as the wrong dynamic in fics, I will not be taking further questions, thank you.

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!
Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.
There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.
I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:
Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.
The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.
The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.
If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.
Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.

i wish all my beloved followers and mutuals a very “you find a fic that has the exact premise and characterization you’ve always wanted to see but never had the energy to write yourself and it’s really good and just as long as you want to read”

I think I finally understand why people write fanfiction. it’s so aggravating when a piece of media doesn’t engage with its premise - like maybe the implications were too dark, maybe if we followed it to its logical conclusion the main character would be irredeemable, maybe it’s too complicated, maybe it’s too flavourful (weird, horny, unflattering) so we only get a liiiitle bit of it sprinkled on top of an otherwise generic story
whatever the reason, we end up with a diet lite homogenized version of what the initial story promised us. it makes me pace around my house biting at my thumb, going “no…..no it could’ve been better…..I could’ve made it better…..”
#this is how i feel about merlin#i mean magic politics?? in the modern day??? and you ended the show before it could happen. SHAME.

this is an excellent addition!! part of how will acts around hannibal is definitely purely because he's trying his hardest to keep EVERYONE in the dark, including hannibal.
but also will HATES when hannibal acts like he knows more about will than will knows about himself.
hannibal is being all 'don't worry, will :3 i know the truth. i know your wife and son are just a flimsy attempt to hide yourself :3 :3 i know you're all murdery on the inside even if you won't admit you like it :3'
and will reacts defensively and like the petty asshole he is, and denies it all, partly because it's the best way to keep hannibal's insight limited, but also because he knows it's what will hurt him the most. the fact that will can quite blatantly and purposefully sacrifice chilton to the dragon without remorse and then deny his involvement, despite knowing of hannibal's pride and admiration? hannibal must've hated it almost as much as will hated hannibal still managing to be up in his business from a jail cell. will wants him angry and in pain, because hannibal has RUINED any illusion of will's perfect, normal life. he wants to ruin hannibal's ideal too.
depending on what degree of reality in will's reaction you want read, another way you could look at it is toddler-doing-the-thing-their-parent-hates-to-test-boundaries. will wants to see how far he can push, how devoted hannibal truly is, how much it'll take for him to lash out and punish him again. he's testing out hannibal's love, by pushing his buttons and seeing what it takes to make him snap.
“Maddeningly polite” is one of my favourite expressions from the show tbh. Cause Hannibal is soooo fixated on politeness himself, killing people because they’re rude, his entire person suit being the embodiment of “polite”. “When life becomes maddeningly polite, think about me, Will” ??????? He’s saying the politeness he forced down everybody’s throats maddens him. He’s hinting at taking off the person suit with/for Will. He’s ready to stop the polite charade
#once again will's motivations are layered and complex what a surprise#will graham#hannibal meta#hannibal nbc#nbc hannibal

It’s not rtd. it’s not rtd. rtd didn’t write rogue this was Kate Herron and Briony Redman’s first ever dr who story and they need all the praise in the world for it. I need at least somebody being vocally enthusiastic about having women writing dr who especially when I can tell you all adore this episode. Don’t let rtd get away with it don’t let him run away with the credit for a character and episode entirely conceived by two women

when he says this, hannibal refers to will's life after his arrest. will's life is 'polite', as in a formality, something he has been taught but that will only follows because it is the socially acceptable thing to do. not only that, but he implies that accepting hannibal, accepting himself, is the natural, rational thing to do, while living his life of normalcy (molly and walt and will as the perfect template of a nuclear family) is 'maddening'. it APPEARS equal parts scathing remark and encouraging reassurance.
but while hannibal is pretty terrible at showing he wants what's best for will from a 'maddeningly polite' perspective, he's really done a stella job from his own perspective. if he's being cruel with how he frames molly and walt, it's only because he knows exactly why will felt the need to have them in his life at all. he says 'don't worry about me' but what he means is 'i meant what i said. you'll always know where i am and i will forgive you for making me wait'. he says 'think about me' because he wants will to come to his own truth about how he felt with hannibal vs. how he feels now with molly. is it snarky and presumptuous and demeaning? yeah. is it a genuine expression of care and gentleness? YEAH.
will and bedelia speak about decisions shortly after that scene, and will essentially tells her he hasn't been doing a whole lot of making those lately. it mirrors something he says to jack earlier in the season - he hadn't decided what to say to hannibal until he heard his voice, he just picked up the phone. bedelia spends this scene being increasingly correct in her analysis. will IS becoming pathological - that old behaviour of thinking very little and then whining about/ignoring/enjoying the consequences as if they're not his doing is becoming primary.
he spends a lot of s3b manipulating everyone as much as possible, so that they make choices on his behalf without ever having to make a premeditated choice of his own. encouraging the dragon to go for hannibal; positioning chilton as his pet and denying his part in it later; making hannibal's escape possible but not really doing anything to make it happen directly; letting jack assume will's with him but being largely neutral to the whole thing; implying hannibal will live to go after bedelia almost entirely to fuck with her. not only does it absolve him of blame in the eyes of the law, it absolves him of acknowledging his own predilections for being just as fucked up as hannibal.
i don't think the moment where will thinks to himself 'this is it. i've reached my limit. i'm going to go apeshit if i have to pretend to be this person any longer' happens after hannibal encourages him to consider it. hannibal says it not knowing what will's doing in the background already. i think that moment hit the second jack delivered him back into hannibal's orbit. will is ALREADY doing things that are just so completely unethical, at the very least. he's not killing anyone directly, sure, but what he is doing is just as scheming and subtle as hannibal's careful manipulations throughout the first two seasons. they swap roles: will is carefully and precisely manipulating everyone around him just to see what happens, while hannibal loses a lot of his finesse because he has no need for that person suit anymore.
this isn't the only role swap you can see. will is a character with a very clear vision of what he 'wants' for his future, an image of who he should be, a life he 'likes', with a wife and kids where he is caring and sweet. in contrast (as mr. mikkelsen has recently interpreted for us), hannibal is someone who thinks little of the distant future. in s3b though, they flip. hannibal knows what he wants, a life with will, acceptance for hannibal but also for will too. will's perfect future is disrupted by hannibal and by the dragon, and he loses sight of it entirely - everything he does becomes about simply seeing what will happen, that pathology taking root in the wake of instability. in fact, he puts effort into making as many possibilities as he can, rousing as many players into as many contradictory and beneficial courses of action as he can manage.
bedelia sums it up the best: "We assign a moment to decision. What you propose is so thoughtless... I find it difficult to imagine that moment exists."
not only does this line go HARD, she's also right - will ISN'T making decisions. and he keeps not making them until he's falling off a cliff with hannibal and letting fate decide if they live or die.
#this got out of hand very quickly#op is correct as hell i just HAD to talk about the fact hannibal is speaking more widely about will's life#will doesn't exactly react well and it's because he still can't quite believe hannibal actually gives a shit about him#gave me an excuse to rewatch twotl for quotes and canon#hannibal meta#nbc Hannibal#hannibal nbc#if you saw this when it had a million typos no you didn't

i consider myself pro-degrowth--in that i think amazon same-day delivery and universal car ownership and all-year-round global fruit supply chains are all fundamentally unsustainable and should be abolished--but the way some people talk about it with a christian martyrdom level of fetishization of suffering is just such a dead-end. if you are going to be an eco-socialist you have to make the case that freedom from wage labour and universal housing and the socialization of wealth are going to be worth giving up the unsustainable luxuries of the capitalist economy in the imperial core--'we're going to make your life worse and you should think that's a good thing' is not a political movement with a future.

while I’m on the subject of Hannibal:
I actually heavily disagree with metaphors portraying Will’s capacity for violence as a “beast set free” type narrative. It feels antithetical to so much of canon. And before you say “did we even watch the same show”, let me ask YOU that!
My thesis here is that Will’s ability to cause harm to others (and specifically his ability to kill) is not latent. To clarify, I agree that his desire to kill may be latent, but not his ability.
By this I mean, when we first meet Will Graham, actually committing violence does not come naturally to him the same way thinking about it does. He kills purely out of instinct, to protect the vulnerable, in exactly the way the FBI has trained him to do so.
He is essentially a domesticated dog. He is “bred” with blunt teeth, as we all are, as regular people who have a social contract not to murder one another. And Will does behave exactly as one would expect a trained, working dog under so much stress to behave: he occasionally bares his teeth, snaps to give warning, growls if you look at him the wrong way. But at the end of the day, Will bites only who he is supposed to bite, in the way he has been trained to bite, and can only bite as hard as those blunted teeth allow.
Early canon Will Graham might watch wolves hunt and study their hunting, he might have twitchy dreams about chasing rabbits… But because of his lifelong strict training and flat molars, he has never actually been capable of behaving how a true wolf behaves.
The show tells us quite plainly, Hannibal is the catalyst for Will’s becoming.
In other words, Will was was born a domesticated dog-who-can-only-ever-be-a-dog, and would have died as one, too, if not for Hannibal recognizing that his twitchy rabbit chasing dreams were so similar to his own real life hunting patterns.
Saying that Will’s capacity for violence was always there is a disservice to Hannibal’s level of desire for Will and manipulation of him, and to Will’s continuous, self-altering transformation. Their arc together is about how Hannibal has forever been a lone wolf, but is now sculpting a packmate in his own image... He is re-training Will. And it’s not like Will’s sharp canines just ripped right out of his jaw- the entire show is about the slow, painful filing of his fangs. There’s a reason they didn’t have to muzzle him until now.
