i know i only posted about my kimchay vampire fic au a few days ago, but i actually started this fic all the way at the end of jan. anyways, here's a peek of what i wrote before:

Lost in his thoughts, his footsteps fall heavily, boots crunching against fallen leaves and twigs as he trudges through the forest. He'd just finished a quick scout of the woods behind the mansion and was well on his way home.

As he was about to turn, his supernatural hearing picks up on the tiniest little squeak. The creature sounds so small, so little.

Creatures come and go, it's the circle of life. A small, helpless creature in the dead of the night wasn't bound to survive. It seems to haunt him wherever he goes, an inescapable reality ー it's always a fight for survival, both within the forest and within his home.

He’s thinking of ignoring it when the thing squeaks again. Faintly, he recognises it to be a soft cry, one that sounds much like a baby animal - a bat, in particular.

He knows the forest like the back of his palm, and is acutely aware of the colony of bats living within the woods. He has even interacted with several of them for intel - they make loyal, effective spies - in exchange for blood and other offerings he could easily afford. But their coven is tucked deep within the heart of the forest, a distance away from where he was currently. The creature’s cries sound much closer. But if it were a bat, it must've wandered quite far from the cave.

He glances up at the moon, the waning beauty hanging high above his head. Deciding he had nothing better to do anyways, he speeds towards the sound of the noise, following the direction of the cries. It wouldn’t hurt to earn strengthen relations between him and the bat coven anyways.

The closer he gets, the louder it grows. He can even pick up undertones of distress and worry within the tone of its cries. The dramatics are almost human-like and Kim can't help but scoff at the comparison, knowing well that bats didn't have the capacity to feel. And yet, this little bat, who’s having a horrible day, is deciding to make it everyone else’s problem.

It clearly has quite the personality, a very annoying one at that.

Enough about not startling the creature. Any louder and it might attract the unwanted attention of predators, which would not be good in Kim’s books.

The trees and bracken pass in a blur of brown and green hues, the wind whipping past his cheeks as he follows the cries. His hair is left tousled by the time he settles beside the obnoxiously loud noise machine, sitting sulkily on a pile of dead, soggy leaves.

Crouching down, he gruffly pinches the creature up by the scruff, lifting it up.

every holocaust memorial day, i always ask people to keep romani people in their thoughts, but this year i’d like to clear up some misconceptions that i see every year w/ a psa

romani people are not white. we’re south asian (from northern india), and each subgroup has a unique racial makeup of asian/white/etc, in different amounts. this is also why we vary wildly in physical appearance/skintone

we still face oppression. what we face, especially in europe, can still be constituted as attempted genocide, as we’re forced to live in hazardous conditions or to give away our children, be sterilized, etc just for the crime of being roma

the ‘g slur’ isn’t just an american issue. the reason some european roma prefer the slur is because, in many countries, there is no term for roma that isn’t a slur, and it’s either the g slur or the literal translation of the n word. i’m romanian, and if you used the slur in my hometown, you’d get slapped, since we just use ‘roma’.

we live in every continent across the world. some of the largest romani populations exist in south america, predominantly in brazil. they are no more and no less roma than their european counterparts, and they, like romani in asia, africa, etc all face unique challenges and oppression.

we’re the largest ethnic minority in europe, and yet have almost no political power, no land ownership power (in some places, we’re forbidden from owning land entirely), etc. with very few reputable charities- a lot of us reject charity by principle, as well as there being a general lack of education about us- the best thing you can do to help romani people is to just spread information, and help individuals when you can.
