Part of her considers reclaiming her cards and just going. Usually people are more drawn in by now, usually people don’t look quite so wolfish, like she’s stepping on their toes.
Just talk!! Yells the little part in her, the part that keeps track of the last time she ate good food. It yells that even if he doesn’t care, he might mention it to someone else. Someone who does.
So she beams at him and nods right along. “Right! So, first is the Emperor reversed.” This one usually makes people angry. She edges out of his reach. “So the Emperor usually means a fatherly figure, in control but not too, over the top. Reversed it uh, well it means- well it means obsessiveness and aggression, losing control b-but the Devil reversed on the other hand-!”
She flips the Emperor out of her left grip, and suddenly its gone. The hand reaches for the next card, the black goat like face grinning from the illustration. “The Devil reversed is actually a good thing! Funny huh? Anyway it means to explore dark thoughts and getting rid of those self limitations.” Again, the card disappears. “And of course the World! It’s not always for travel, it means you’ve accomplished something you were doing! Maybe a project?”
While Thatcher knows of Tarot readings, he knows little of the cards themselves. He knows only of the dreaded Death card and how easily one misinterprets its meaning. He has no idea what the other cards mean, however, and he’s sure if he gives this woman a little leeway, she will spew fortunes until she’s blue in the face.
Thatcher scoffs softly and continues to stare at the woman. “I’m not much of a traveler. Been here my whole life.” He waits for the woman to take her cards, but his patience wears thin. He waves them at her.
Oh, please do. Tell me all.”

Emery has good relationships with crows and ravens. She feeds them and lets them in if it’s a bad storm, so they give her trinkets and try a bit unsuccessfully to help her garden.

🔮bonding with tarot decks🔮
hello loves!
when you first get a tarot deck, you’re probably like me in the sense that you just want to read now, right now with a huge spread that details your whole life story. however, it’s really important to bond with a new deck, and let both your energies get accustomed to each other. i always find if i don’t bond with my deck, it tends to read less accurately until i do - not to mention sasses me as much as possible. so, here are the ways i bond with my tarot decks!
sleep with your deck. seriously, put your deck under your pillow every night. this is a great way to bond with your deck without spending a lot of time on it! just pop it in it’s box or bag, slip it under your pillow and have a well deserved snooze whilst letting your energies get used to eachother.
put your deck on your altar or somewhere else you spend a lot of time. putting it in such a sacred place that’s close to your heart will really help your bond grow.
shuffle it. i like to sit around fidgeting by shuffling my decks while i’m just relaxing, and it’s also a great way to get physically accustomed to your deck!
talk to it. if you want your deck to read for you accurately, i’ve found talking to it to be one of the best ways to get it to understand what you need to hear. it might sound silly, but even if it doesn’t help your deck it’s always nice to get a load off of your chest!
do an interview spread. you’ve more than likely seen lots of these ‘get to know the deck’ spreads around the internet. they’re there to help you understand your deck’s personality, and how it likes to answer questions. it’s a cute little bonding session and it’s great fun to do an interview as your first reading with a new deck!
ask it questions you know the answer to. this is a good exercise to understand the personality of your deck further! you could even ask it to tell a simple story you know well - the way it tells it will indicate even more, like how positive it is, whether it’s blunt or subtle… and it’s really fun!
leave your other decks alone for a little while. if you have more than one deck, stop reading with them until you’re used to the imagery and the style of reading your new deck gives you. let all your love and energy surround this deck!

Emery has severe hearing loss due in part to a fever she got as a small child that left her deaf in one ear and a blow to the back of the head at age 12 damaged her other ear. She has a hearing aid for her left ear and a cochlear implant for her right.

As he flashes the cards her eyes open a little wider as though trying to take in every detail in the cards. Acting as if she hasn’t seen those faces peering back at her a hundred times.
“The Emperor reversed, the Devil reversed—hey I haven’t seen that one much—and the World! Do you travel a lot? Usually travelers get that one a lot- oh! Would you like me to explain them?” He seems focused, looking at her or maybe just past her? She hummed a little tune in the back of her throat, one that smoothed out all the ragged edges in her mind, it was fine.

The look of amusement never leaves Thatcher’s face. In fact, he looks even more beside himself as the woman brandishes a battered looking deck of cards. A soft chuckle escapes his lips. He knows what these are before she even tells him.
“Ah, of course. How could I forget?” He flutters his eyelashes and his smile becomes lopsided as she shows him a now splayed deck.
Oh, choices choices. “Three, you say?” He knows exactly how this plays out. He isn’t wasting anytime not being condescending. Long fingers extract themselves from his coat pocket and he hovers them over the faded cards. The cards on his left appeals to him, and he chooses a staggered three from that section. Thatcher shows them to her without looking at the faces, though he intently stares at hers.
