ICAD 2025: Day 21: Bird sketch in graphite pencil.
Really enjoyed doing this one. Drawing birds is both easy and difficult, depending on the detail. It's easy to start out with a simple sketch, but I just can't resist trying to make it more precise.

ICAD 2025, Day 14: Abstract collage with colored paper. In theory, the point of the ICAD challenge is to devote 15 minutes a day to creating art. It's an exercise in experimentation, committing to creating something everyday, and developing a habit of simply doing that further enhances an artist's creativity and abilities. This piece exempliflies that. I simply started out with some leftover strips of orange paper I'd used for something else. I started by laying them out in a pattern to see what developed. I have a natural tendency for order, and in art I always start out with with things neat, even and symmetrical. Initially I laid out the strips in a bit of a grid, and then, in a burst of inspiration, made chaos out of it by using odd angles and breaking cohesion. See how it now looks like alive and in motion? There's energy there that would have been lost the way I initially had it. It only took me a few minutes, but created a bit of a breakthrough. That's the beauty of an art challenge.

ICAD 2025, Day 13: Abstract watercolor painting.
When I pull out the watercolors and commit something to paper, I can never resist trying multiple colors in multiple ways. It fascinates me how they work together.
