What is a teaching strategy?
Tumblr media
Teaching strategy refers to methods that teachers use to help students learn. It is important for teachers to have multiple teaching strategies in case one particular strategy does not work effectively with students. Teachers can select various strategies that benefit students learning (Jaime, 2018).          In an ASL classroom, teachers can use strategies that will make learning easier and more engaging. Modeling is one example. Instead of just only signing to students what they must do in an activity, the teacher can model the instructions by showing them how exactly to do it.  The student-led classroom is another strategy teachers can use. Students teach what they learned to other students (Jaime, 2018)

What is an Interactive Activity?
#activity #ASL752Fall2019
Tumblr media
Interactive activity promotes active learning. It prompts students to engage with the material, participate in the class, and work together rather than passively receive information from the teacher. There are many interactive activities and lessons for the student to engage in. It can take place either in class or online(“Interactive lesson & review activities”, n.d).     One example of interactive activity in a classroom is grouping students to cover an assigned concept brought up by their teacher. This group activity allows each student to study the materials and practice expressive skills. It can initiate classroom discussions based on student answers. Another example of an interactive activity is Guess Who game. This game suits new ASL learners.  It allows students to practice both expressive and receptive skills during the game.                               References        Interactive lesson & review activities. What is a Teaching Method?
#methods #ASL752Fall2019
The teaching method is the strategies and techniques teachers develop and use to assist students’ learning process. Teachers select certain methods that they believe are most effective for learning based on their educational philosophy, classroom demographic, subject area(s) and a school mission statement (Santos, 2017).
Teachers take on either teacher-centered approach or student-centered approach to boost learning. More teachers are starting to use the technology teaching approach in a way to make learning more comfortable and convenient for those who cannot attend class in person. One example of a teacher-centered approach is flipped classrooms(high tech). Teachers record their lectures and have their students watch the recorded lessons. The benefit of this model is that it allows students to do their work at their own place. It also allows students to rewatch and study the recorded lecture. The cost of this model is that there is not much interaction among students.  Also, students need to have access to a good internet connection and devices (“Teaching Methods”, n.d). On the positive note, teachers are finding ways to maintain a balance between teacher-centered approaches and student-centered approaches like using the discussion boards and social media platforms.

Assessment Tools
Assessment tools are techniques to measure a student’s performance and skills. Assessment tools help teachers to keep the progress of learning. Teachers use multiple techniques to identify progress and reinforce learning.
Assessment tools can be either informal or formal. Informal assessment is a subjective measurement that is not graded. Giving spontaneous feedback to a student during class is an example of an informal assessment. The benefit of using this tool in a sign language course is it allows students to improve or reinforce their performance. Showing the correct sign will prompt students to sign correctly.

Classroom Management Strategy
#classmanagement #ASL752Fall2019
Classroom management includes skills and techniques that teachers use to make sure their classroom is in control. The teacher’s job is to facilitate learning and eliminate behaviors that prevent learning. It is suggested that the teachers should get to know their students first to build trust and develop a cohesive classroom community.
There are several examples for teachers to establish positive relationships with their students to promote learning and trust.  Teachers can schedule one-on-one meetings with students to get to know them better. Teachers can use positive communication techniques. Teachers should reinforce positive behaviors and statements from students. These are several examples that can help teachers run their classrooms effectively.
