Information sharing is a huge part of human progress. Through this, we are able to share one’s thoughts of something that could be beneficial in the future. It helps us solve cases of debatable topics, technology, medicine, history, and others. We cannot attain learning without identifying, evaluating, tracking, or analyzing information. The learning can be by the environment, nature, or by the people around us. Information is made possible to share through the use of the media. Media plays a big role in information exchanges. It makes people around the globe more connected to each other. While the media and information are so important, being literate to it is essential too. As the information nowadays is more capable of being spread easier, edited, or opinionated, also it is more prone to fake news, baseless claims, and a persuasive hoax.

Information can be healthy or not. Some news, ads, and even television programs contains senseless ideas that are not beneficial to human learning. These things can have a tremendous impact on us even though they don’t mean anything. Or in reverse, even though it means something, but have a terrible influence such as racism, atheism,a revolution to a rightful government, or violence, it is still not healthy to be read or watched. Take for example the video in Youtube that shows phones can actually be used while charging, A phone featuring Youtube channel made the video. Yes it shows information, but doesn’t actually prove its claims. Many comments and the other related Youtube video opposed its idea. So, the idea of them is in a neutral state and no definite thought. This shows that information is not always good to us if not analyzed, and may cause our own destruction.

Some sources are deceiving. As the technology upgrades up to our generation, so are untrustworthy sources. Some have bogus licenses on their website, some have persuasive thoughts, and some have fake identity. Many internet users are aware of fake news but the problem is they don’t know how to determine if a source is unreliable. Being careless upon using the internet may lead you to phishing or identity hacking. So keep in mind your privacy. Do not ever share it to someone you do not know or meet at least.

Media and information are not always about receiving but also creating. Creating information through the media is a freedom of sharing information which is good. But, there is also risk in misusing this freedom to share. Being very open in public is very dangerous for a person to do. It exposes them on stalking, identity stealing, identity hacking, information misuse, cybercrime, and many other risky things. Be as careful as you can when it talks about your personal information in public especially in social media. Updating yourself information isn’t bad. Just always be reminded that anyone could see what you post and what you share.

To conclude, media and information nowadays gives us a big advantage in information and idea collaboration. Thus, it makes our world evolve faster than ever. However, there are many risks that are unquestionably unsafe for careless media users. Media and information is a big part of life, human learning, and world progress. Being a literate brings more potential in our society. Imagine how things can be if the world is in perfect unity of being a media smart. So let it be! Let us live in this world with full awareness of what being a media literate is. And anything that is used properly works properly. Let us start a new life of being a media and information literate! Never forget that being media smart is a human vitality!
