(Parentheses Are The Fenders Of Punctuation)
After Monday's be-jorted ramble I recovered on Tuesday by taking a little detour with the kiddies on the way home from the school pick-up:
The older human child is showing some form, the younger human child is getting the hang of his own pedal bike, and inasmuch the only wisdom I possess is bicycle wisdom it means I've officially taught them everything I know. So from here on in it's, "I don't have a fucking clue, go ask your mom." With my work as a parent essentially complete, I headed out for a ride yesterday. I started out on the paved path:
Left it for the open road:
Took in some old-timey signage:
And then hit the dirt trail for the return trip:
Yes, that's right, in a flagrant display of disregard for my own safety I defied the bicycle industry and rode on a gravel surface with a non-gravel bicycle:
That's my Ritte, by the way. I've now had this bike for eight (8) years. The stainless steel has proven to be anything but (in fairness to them, it was a prototype frame):
Nevertheless, it has been more that serviceable, and despite its short-reach brakes it easily accepts a pair of 28mm tires. Its in this guise that the bike seems happiest, and no matter how I set it up it always seems to find its way back to being my "dirty road" bike. Of course the Milwaukee also serves that purpose:
But what happens there is that, no matter how I set that up, it always seems to find its way back to being my "fender bike" since it accepts them so easily:
Anyway with the imminent arrival of my new-to-me "forever bike" (more on that when it arrives) I may have to permanently cement the Ritte and the Milwaukee in their respective roles. As for the remainder of the ride, it was rather enjoyable:
There are certainly more exotic locales than the greater New York City area, but I manage. from Bike Snob NYC http://bit.ly/2VFgH8K

3 Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Mirror from Fogging Up
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
It’s annoying when the mirror gets blurry in the morning after you shower and right before you need it. Don’t worry, once you do any of the following tips, you won’t have this issue anymore!
Shampoo Pour a small amount of whatever shampoo you have available onto a folded paper towel. Use your paper towel to wipe the shampoo over whatever part of your mirror you want to keep clear. Then, take a clean paper towel and use that to wipe the mirror dry.
Use twice the amount of shampoo you would normally use to wash your hair.
Make sure to wipe the mirror completely dry, otherwise you will end up with a blurry looking mirror.
This same trick can be done using shaving cream, toothpaste and laundry detergent. Use whichever one you have handy. Source: WikiHow
Vinegar Creating a 50-50 solution of vinegar and water will also do the trick. Instead of buying a mirror cleaner like Windex, which has a ton of chemicals inside, you can use this all-natural cleaner instead.
Simply pour a cup of water and a cup of vinegar into an old spray bottle, add a drop or two of dishwashing soap and spray. Wipe the mirror with a towel and the glass should stay steam-proof for a few days.
Vinegar does have an odor, but it should go away within an hour. You can also add lemon juice for a fresh smelling bathroom.
Want it to be streak free, too? Trying wipe it down with a newspaper instead. Source: Housekeeping.WonderHowTo
Shaving Cream Simply smear shaving cream over the mirror and then wipe it off again with a clean dry towel before you shower or bath. This will keep the glass fog free for at least a couple of weeks Source: DIYDoctor

N E W W I D E R T I T L E S F O R E X T R A T R A C T I O N
Firstly, I can assure you I'm not in the market for a new car. However, the Internet is the Internet, one click leads to another, and before you know it you find yourself on an automobile manufacturer's website. Anyway, all of this is by way of asking an important question, which is: If you're using the concept of the "active lifestyle" to sell cars, why top them with crappy bicycles?
Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against crappy bikes. In fact, if you want to get technical, any bike that gets ridden regularly is by definition a good bike. Nevertheless, we're talking about marketing here, and appearance is important--so important that "food stylist" is an actual career. So how does this even happen?
I mean I realize Subaru doesn't sponsor IMBA anymore, but someone there has to know that nobody's driving a pair of department store bikes into the mountains like that. And perhaps most vexingly, I'm reasonably certain the same bikes are on both cars, which means they're just moving the same crappy bikes back and forth for each shoot. It's just weird is all I'm saying. They might as well just use cardboard cutouts of bikes. The only thing missing from the whole ersatz "active lifestyle" tableau is a dog, and they should have used something like this:
I guess what I'm saying is I'm ready to farm myself out as a professional "bicycle stylist" to any company that will pay me, no matter how reprehensible. I'M READY TO SELL OUT, DAMMIT! Even so, I maintain I'm a person of my word. For example, yesterday I vowed to fuck off for a jorts ride--and that's just what I did!
From my Bronx abode and back this extremely mellow and pleasant mostly-dirt-with-some-token-singletrack ride is around 30 miles, and I daresay it would make a pretty good Fondon't route. (Indeed, previous Fondon't routes have utilized much of this terrain.) And it was quite good to get back on the Jones SWB complete:
Which continues to be one of my all-time favorite bicycles:
Since taking delivery last summer I've changed virtually nothing on this bike, nor to I feel the need to do so. (Though some new tires are probably in order for the season.) Being the terminal weenie I am I occasionally catch myself contemplating the acquisition of some sort of fattish-tire drop-bar "gravel" whatever, but the fact is that for any terrain beyond what a regular road bike with 28mm tires can handle the Jones is pretty much ideal. It's not at all onerous to ride for miles at a time on pavement, and it's also a perfectly capable mountain bike. In all, I stand by what I said in my official "review," which is that if I had a whole week off to do nothing but ride, this is the bike I'd choose. Finally, in my last Outside column I mentioned my formative years as a BMX racer, and in the process of curating it I dug this out of the closet for inspiration:
I'm 99% certain that's the last bike race I ever won. If you'd like to see this trophy for yourself, it's currently mounted on the hood of my car. from Bike Snob NYC http://bit.ly/2WeoiIA

Tesla Will No Longer Include NEMA 14-50 Adapters With New Vehicles
KB Electric LLC received an email last week to notify us of a change being made with the purchase of new Tesla vehicles. We wanted to share this information for better assistance with electric vehicle charging installation options that KB Electric LLC can provide for its Tesla customers.
The gist of the email: New Tesla cars will not include a NEMA 14-50 adapter as “standard” equipment with the purchase of a new Tesla. This means that a customer can purchase the adapter separately, or they can opt for different home electric vehicle charging equipment (Tesla recommends that their customers purchase their Wall Connector for home charging).
Tesla now is referring to the NEMA 14-50 adapter as a “backup” option for charging, just like their Mobile Connector.
Tesla will continue to provide the NEMA 5-15 adapter with the Mobile Connector that comes as “standard” equipment with a new Tesla vehicle purchase. According to Tesla’s website, this is best left “in the trunk of the car as a backup option while traveling.” This is because…
The Mobile Connector utilizes your regular 120v household outlet, but only provides you with 3 miles per hour of charge time (for Model 3 and Model S), and 2 miles per hour charge time (for Model X).
What is a NEMA 14-50 Tesla adapter?
Tesla NEMA 14-50 adapter
Let’s explain a little bit of what a NEMA 14-50 adapter is first.
Up until this week, Tesla vehicles came standard with a NEMA 14-50 adapter for home charging. These adapters fit into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, providing 240v on a 50amp breaker, with a maximum output of 32amps.
These NEMA 14-50 adapters have different charging speeds depending on the Tesla model:
Model 3 – 30 miles of charge per hour
Model S – 23 miles of charge per hour
Model X – 20 miles of charge per hour
What Does This Mean For New Tesla Customers?
So now you’ve got your new Tesla and are ready to call your licensed electrician for home electric vehicle charging installation to charge your car. Since your Tesla won’t come with a NEMA 14-50 adapter…
You can still buy a NEMA 14-50 adapter from Tesla if you still wanted to go this route. KB Electric LLC is more than happy to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet in your garage for you to charge your new Tesla.
The other option (the one that Tesla recommends) is buying Tesla’s Wall Connector.
Tesla’s Wall Connector Installation
Tesla’s Wall Connector is recommended by Tesla to be installed on a 60amp breaker in most home circumstances, and has maximum charging rates compared to the NEMA 14-50 adapter and the Mobile Connector. The Wall Connector has the following charging rates for its Tesla vehicles on a 60amp circuit breaker:
Model 3 – 44 miles of charge per hour
Model S – 34 miles of charge per hour
Model X – 30 miles of charge per hour
KB Electric LLC Is Your Certified Tesla Charger Installer
KB Electric LLC is Tesla Certified! We can install either type of charging system for home charging for you. Either way, for faster charging speeds at home, you will now need to pay out of pocket for a NEMA 14-50 adapter or Tesla’s Wall Connector if purchasing a new Tesla. Going Wide With Frame Jeans and Diane Keaton
I need to do a YouTube video about my whole history with jeans. I've realized that since my teenage years, I've always been searching for a style that's not readily available. Over the past decade, I've been bedeviled by the persistence of skinny jeans/jeggings, which was a style I loved in the 1980s -- when it was hard for me to find -- but in recent years I've wanted anything but skinnies. I got some relief after Katie Holmes scandalized people in 2008 with her "pegged jeans". Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'FwtMXxT0TX9PtbvXbfjYzQ',sig:'eZLiJxdsgSopreYYt4s1Y_tKaxicckXZzJALozYHup0=',w:'403px',h:'594px',items:'83394236',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })}); Once that style was rebranded as "boyfriend jeans" and the "Never is the next new thing™" magic happened, there was a decent selection for a while. I wore my Acne "Generic Girl" jeans until they fell apart. [caption id="attachment_42426" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Photo from 2008. Click for original post.[/caption] But somehow the loose-fitting style -- with a long inseam to allow the cuffs to be rolled up -- quickly evolved into a "slim boyfriend" cut, which was basically a cropped, distressed, skinny jean. Not what I was looking for. Speaking of cropped, for at least the past three years, cropped styles with a boot-cut, an unfinished-looking hem, or both features have been hard to get away from. I ended up with two very similar cropped pairs out of desperation -- one by Madewell and one by Frame. [caption id="attachment_42427" align="aligncenter" width="434"] Madwell in 2016. Click for original post.[/caption] The Madewell jeans didn't hold up well at all -- they got weirdly discolored in an oily-looking way -- so this month, I cut them into shorts. (Three years is way too brief a run for a pair of jeans for me, so I was determined to keep them in service.) I did like the Frame jeans in the "Le High" higher rise style, so I went back to that brand hoping to find something that wasn't skinny or cropped. I found a style called "Le Palazzo," took it to the fitting room, and went through my personal "Never is the next new thing™" thought process: "These are hideous! Take them off! Ha ha, this is funny. Wait, can I wear them? Oh, I love these." I wore them for the first time on Friday night.
What Wendy Wore Jacket: Alexander McQueen (purchased in 2003 at Bergdorfs, seen here in 2010) T-shirt: Splendid (ancient, I can't find this style anymore) Wide-leg jeans: Frame (2019) Unseen boots: Celine (pre-2007) Hair: Natural texture, not loving it. Makes the mullet harder to see, no? Expression: "I LOVE THESE JEANS" Doggo: Edward, totally not interested in what's going on
I got another Frame pair in the brand's "Le High Flare" cut -- I haven't worn those yet. All three styles of Frame jeans are very soft and stretchy, so if you like the comfort of leggings without actually wearing leggings, you might want to try these out. One note on the fit: The non-cropped styles have all been very long, so you tall wimmins should definitely try these. Anyone my height (5'4"-ish) or shorter should expect to hem theirs, meaning you don't get the instant gratification of buying and wearing the same day. You can see the extra length in this dressing room photo that I shared on Instagram.

REGARDING THESE PANTS: THIS IS SERIOUSLY TRUE. I WORE THEM ON THE PLANE. I WORE THEM IN THE HOTEL DUPONT. I WORE THEM IN THE DELAWARE ART MUSEUM. At first, I thought Keaton loved these jeans SO MUCH that she was using all capital letters in her caption in order to shout her happiness from the rooftops, but it turns out she always uses all caps on IG. She later identified her jeans as being from Margiela.

Little Ado About Nothing
It's been a whirlwind week of kids-not-having-school-ness, capped off by an early bicycle cycling race on Sunday, which I'm proud to say I passed:
There's something to be said for riding plastic bikes in circles really fast. I mean I'm not sure what it is, but it's definitely something. Anyway, as much as I love the Fredding about I'm long overdue for a slow "jorts" ride on a metal bike with fat tires, so that's what I'm about to do. (Between the Fredding and the rain it's been far too long since I've been on the Jones.) Rest assured the publication of the Eroica California Outside story is imminent. Also, I expect to take delivery of a new-to-me "forever bike" by week's end, and I will tell you all about it. But not now. In the meantime, I invite you to check out the Bike Forecast for the latest in the sublime shit-show that is New York City cycling. Yours in Jorts, --Tan Tenovo

Foot Fetish: 1980s Booties and Boot Styles
There hasn't been a shoe that's interested me in quite a while, but this Dior caught my eye because it reminds me of a Peter Fox style I had in the 1980s. [caption id="attachment_42413" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Click to see on Dior's site.[/caption] You can just barely make out those Peter Fox shoes against my crazy striped tights in this poorly lit photo from 1986. [caption id="attachment_42415" align="aligncenter" width="398"] Click for another photo from the 1980s.[/caption] Madonna wore lace-up booties, so I did too! I got those shoes in high school and they were a big splurge. Even though my foot grew later, I kept them for years until I reluctantly faced facts and gave them away. Honestly, I wish I still had them because they were such a great 1980s fashion artifact. Speaking of '80s artifacts of the shoe variety, Anne Klein Couture used to do fabulous boots, and I'm still searching for a pair of the brand's famous zipper boots. [caption id="attachment_42416" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Click for a 2013 post I did about these.[/caption] This spandex thigh-high pair was another well-known Anne Klein Couture boot style, and I'm seriously tempted by this listing on Etsy. [caption id="attachment_42419" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Click to buy on Etsy.[/caption] My heart belongs to the zipper boots though! from Wendy Brandes Jewelry Blog http://bit.ly/2J29cCi

4 Ways to Keep Your Vanity Organized
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
When you’re in a hurry in the morning (let’s face it, that’s almost every day), staying organized is probably not part of your routine. To avoid further stress on a Monday morning, avoid unnecessary mess by doing the following tips:
Use a magnetic strip Notorious for always losing your bobby pins? Mounting a magnetic strip on the wall or inside a cabinet will keep you from digging through the bottom of your purse every time you need to pin your bangs. It’s also a convenient way to keep track of all those little tools that get lost in the bottom of a drawer. Source: Self
Put everything in baskets For extra bath supplies of all sizes, look to sturdy wicker baskets. The inexpensive containers help organize cabinets while concealing objects that you don’t wish to display. Simple labels made with paper tags and string make it easy to identify contents. Source: BHG
Utilize vertical dividers Have too many deep drawers and need to store some additional small items? Try dividing a drawer up into slim, vertical compartments and storing items standing up. Make-up compacts, razors, lip balms, and other skinny items can be stored this way to avoid having different items piled on top of each other. Source: Houzz
Keep items dry Hot and steamy bathrooms can be great because — let’s face it — no one likes facing a freezing bathroom during the post-shower towel-off. As great as the steam can be, it can be doubly bad on beauty products. Exposing your pricey face creams, foundations or lipsticks to a tropical climate is a sure-fire way to lessen their lifespan and effectiveness. Keep them in a cool, dry place and save yourself from wondering why your makeup is starting to look wonky halfway through your supply. Have I convinced you to leave the bathroom yet? Source: HGTV

Rainy-Day Fashion for Dogs and Wimmins
We've had heavy rain in New York today. Thunder-phobic Edward the dog was dressed for the occasion in a ThunderShirt that provided both comfort and camouflage ... ... until the storm unnerved him so badly that he peed on his little outfit. Meanwhile, I'm completely unprepared because I've never gone to a thousand-umbrella fashion show. I didn't even know what I was missing until I saw this video from 1956.

My favorite line from the narrator is "With this, she can keep pretty dry." This is definitely an opportunity for Rihanna, who has already been a success with music, makeup, and lingerie. Now that she's reportedly entering the luxury fashion market with the backing of Louis Vuitton's parent company, LVMH, I hope she'll include umbrellas (and umbrella fashion shows) in the new line, because who else would be more appropriate?

In the future, maybe I'll be kept "pretty dry" by a mirrored Rihanna Vuitton umbrella. Until then, I'm staying inside. from Wendy Brandes Jewelry Blog http://bit.ly/2DzJb9H

Differences between Saunas and Steam Rooms
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
Are you torn between which one to get? Let the following information help you decide.
Which is hotter? Even though the difference between sauna and steam room is fairly simple (one is dry and one is moist), your visit to a steam room may feel more intense than a visit to a sauna. The author of a comparison published in Physician and Sportsmedicine describes the difference.
“A steam bath feels hotter than a sauna because the steam helps prevent sweat from evaporating and because of humid air stores more heat than does dry air. In addition, when steam vapor hits the skin, it condenses, with the sweat already on the skin, to release what is known as the heat of condensation. A sauna, on the other hand, has a low humidity, so the body’s core temperature stays cooler, even though the temperature range is about 170° to 190°F.” Source: LiveStrong
Which is better for people with breathing difficulties? Steam showers are beneficial for people with breathing problems such as asthma and bronchitis. The humidity in steam rooms alleviates breathing problems. The heat will cause the body to sweat more, thereby cleaning the body of toxins through sweating. The benefit of the sauna is basically the same as the steam shower, except that the sauna temperature can go higher temperatures than than that of a steam room. Source: DoItYourself
Which is better for the skin? Both facilities open up your pores and increase blood and lymphatic circulation, which will effectively aid in softening your skin. You will notice a healthy pink glow in your skin, which will make you look younger, so not only will you feel good but you will also look rejuvenated.
The steam also helps to clear out any impurities from the skin which is especially good for those who have acne. Similarly, saunas will help to eradicate blackheads to give you clearer skin.
That being said, do make sure that you don’t stay in there too long—spending too much time in a sauna can lead to excessive thirst and too much time in a steam room can cause dizziness or even a rapid heartbeat. Source: Care2
If you still can’t decide – why not get both? We can help you select the best ones for you. Call us!
