In The Archive: Gil Scott Heron

I feel lucky to have been introduced to Gil Scott Heron’s music at the fairly young age of 15. It showed me the importance of using your voice as an artist to empower people. Watching his health deteriorate in his later years broke my heart as he was my hero. I even got to see him perform live in Philly in 2000 or so. He was in poor shape physically but he was still as iconic as ever to me. RIP GIl Scott Heron and thank you for inspiring many generations to come.

I can’t believe I have a 2️⃣1️⃣ year old son. 🎂 Time is our most precious resource and it flies. @asadpeterson you are black excellence. I tell you this regularly and we celebrate that everyday but today, on your 21st birthday I just want to say we’re extremely proud and love the person you have always been and continue to be. De La Soul Tribute Routine

Here’s a De La tribute routine I did a while back to salute the greatest Hip Hop group of all time IMO. I took the Jeffrey Osbourne sample Dilla used to produce Much More and flipped it using Serato Studio and then did a live blend with the De La acapella. RIP Dave aka Trugoy aka Plug 2. You may be gone but you’ll never be forgotten. Long Live Native Tongues.
