it really showcases how quickly young people develop and change when just two years ago, billie eilish did her infamous happier than ever album cycle, which was highly sexualised, blonde Marilyn Monroe style, and she swore up and down that that was her, she was confident about herself, and that she knew what she was doing.

Now for this new album cycle, when talking about her previous era, she says that that wasn't her, she lost who she was and felt like a different person, that everything got to her, she couldn't see herself objectively, and that her first album was so much more of who she is and she wants to return to that girl again.

It took just three years. Which I and anyone can heavily relate to, feeling like you know who you are in the moment, but every single year you look back and feel like that you a year ago was too young to understand, but then the you now will be in the same position in a year.

That's why though I have criticized her, I still feel a ton of empathy for her and her position, and try to support her. She's having to go through that societal grooming we all go through on a much bigger scale and on the public stage.

what's with the weird lowkey lesbophobic asmr videos of straight women doing 'girl who's OBSESSED with you' roleplays? like they were lighthearted and kind of funny initially where it was more like the slang meaning of 'obsessed' and just them giving constant compliments and being touchy (consensually in the script) and just kinda cute crush ones, which is fine, but now it's gross sniffing, eating hair, stalking jokes, raging jealousy, creepy staring, etc. and there's so many of these. i know these channels all follow the latest trend, but it feels super icky and in poor taste.

the jam republic mega crew performance was not good. i get the issues with the lack of available people and the location not being usable, but if you have FLOWN to new zealand, and want to rep nz as the theme, why would you not include a variation of haka or incorporating moves from it into contemporary dance instead, we got the same general krump, basic hiphop dance the entire time. bruh. i wouldn't be surprised if they ended up at the bottom for this.

onto ep 5, SWF 2 has gotten a bit better. still way more fake drama than the first season, but a lot of it has cleared up, and i love the relationship between jam republic (who i have to gun for, being a kiwi run group) and mannequeen.

i resent the first elimination though, that group was way too good to go home.

Holy shit I just worked out my problem with the ‘we need to educate men not blame women’ thing (besides the obvious ‘they know it’s wrong and they do it anyway, because the evil is the point’):

It is just another form of hyper individualism.

Ok, in some quarters we are slowly moving past the ‘what was she wearing, why didn’t she leave’ point, and towards the ‘he shouldn’t have done that and it’s not her fault’ point, and that’s wonderful, but by focusing exclusively on the behaviour of the individual, whether victim or perpetrator, you are very neatly removing the rest of us from the equation, and (most likely) doing so out of laziness.

Yes, we need to talk about men who commit violent acts, and seek to prevent them, but that doesn’t just involve telling men not to do them - it involves changing the rest of society to protect women and children from the men who don’t want to change. It’s a collective effort.

Rather than saying ‘men need to do better’ and then patting ourselves on the back and calling it a day, we need to start enacting large scale change. Most abuse takes place in the home? Ok, let’s overhaul our approach to domestic life, the nuclear family, and social isolation. Some abuse takes place in the streets? Ok, let’s redesign our streets to make them safer, let’s create community protection groups with only women, hell let’s move towards a 24 hour society with no empty streets. Would any of those interventions work? I don’t know, but if we really care about protecting women and children from male violence, anything has got to be worth a try.

Move past individualism. Move towards true community. Step up.
