I'm a 2nd (WOAH!) year teacher on my state union board working hard to make this education landscape a place we all imagined when we first decided to be teachers.

WHY do you think this is Happening? What are we telling the LITTLE KIDS from a YOUNG AGE? Social pressure is dramatically different depending on the type of class. The researchers offered free access to an online SAT prep course (that normally costs $200) to juniors at large Los Angeles high schools, making the sign-up list public within some classes, and private in others. The study was done in low-income, low-performing schools, making the decision potentially more significant, both economically and academically. In non-honors classes, when the sign-ups were made public, participation dropped by 11 percent. The publicity had no visible effect on students in honors classes. To net out the possibility that honors and non-honors students might have different characteristics or priorities, the authors limited part of the study to students who take two honors classes, so that the researchers would catch some of them in non-honors classes as well. In that case, the students presented with the choice to sign up in the honors class were 25 percent more likely to do so if the decision was public. Those who were in a non-honors class were 25 percent less likely to sign up.
Why Students Avoid Academic Help
Many students will avoid enrolling in free SAT prep if the sign-up offer is public.

Story Of Self
Just write about HOW you were called to activism: In my life as a half African, half Finish girl to woman, I was told subtly my whole life that the most valuable part of me is my skin, and my job was to be the smart black one. I was on calendars, posters, and brochures.  LOOK! Everyone called. WE HAVE A SMART BLACK ONE! I was sick of it by high school. I wouldn't apply to any program for kids of color because I was SICK of being a student of color. I was sick sick sick of it. I got to college and I realized why it mattered that I was a student, person, woman of color. It didn't matter how sick I was of being black. Everywhere I went I was perceived FIRST as black and second as something else. Also, it stopped being a valuable part of me. It was a part of me that meant I didn't REALLY have a say and I didn't REALLY belong in school because I probably didn't REALLY get in on my own. I'm teaching in a school of black and brown students with white teachers. Many of them love the kids like they are their own, but some of them look at our students like pitiful creatures that need to be saved. BACK OFF. I got back into being a voice of color on purpose. I am the woman of color at my school and I do speak for us and we are important and it does matter. I am a leader in our union. I am there because I care deeply for my students, and I am there because I'm black. I am there for my students and I am there for my colleagues. I was called to be an activist. An activist of color. A woman activist of color. A young woman activist of color. A young woman activist of color from Washington. I am a Bad Ass Teacher. Watch out.

Take 4
This is my fourth fourth! attempt at tumblr. Usually, I'm pretty good at taking the hint.  Ms.Emedi says the universe You're NO GOOD at tumblr or any other kind of blogging. You need to get over it.
Well, I didn't get over it. Here is why: I am sick of tired of where I we are in terms of the education landscape. I want to take it out here, to the internet, on a site with a lot of young people. I'm going to use tumblr as my main one, but I'm going to add other accounts as they become cool. That's right, y'all, I'm real hip. Let's talk.
