modo 401 Cutaway Workaround from Michael Maiwald on Vimeo.

Example of a method to create a cutaway with modo 401 based on Ryan Drue's "Cutaway Object Dissolve" training video. This is only a workaround and faking solidness by removing the shadow from the inside.

HowTo: - create geometry and material as described in the above mentioned training video - duplicate cutaway geometry and assign a new material, f.i. "inside" - shrink the object with the push tool with -100um - copy an instance of the stencil from the original cutaway material in the "inside" material - give the "inside" material an own shader with only visible to camera activated - disable diffuse, specular and reflection, activate double sided and set the luminous intensity to 1W/srm2 and the choose a luminous color for the cutaway layer

Drawbacks: - geometry intersecting the cutaway geometry will not hidden correctly, f.i. branch root in the clip - reflections, f.i. on ground, will not show the expected result

Update: As Sorcerers Plaything in the Luxology forum mentioned it's easier not to activate doubled sided polygons but flip the normals for the inner material. This way it's also unnecessary to shrink the inner geometry.
