IAS Exam Preparation
Read on for IAS exam preparation strategy:
According to the current trend, more current affairs-based questions are being asked in both the Prelims and Mains stages of the IAS exam. Use only reputable sources like PIB, The Hindu, Yojana, and others, and make sure current events are aligned with the IAS test syllabus. For the IAS test, current affairs are mostly events of national and international importance that transpired in the previous 10-12 months.
Examine previous years' IAS test questions to see how much preparation you'll need
As you read the NCERT materials, take notes. At least two sets of notes are required, one for the UPSC Prelims and the other for the UPSC Mains.
Until 1-2 months before the Prelims exam date, you must prepare for both the Prelims and Mains exams at the same time. Determine which topics overlap between the Prelims and Mains syllabuses and focus on them first.
Choose an Optional subject for the IAS test based on your aptitude, passion, and experience. Although only a few optional subjects have significant overlap with the General Studies syllabus in Mains, their syllabi are rather substantial, so do your study before choosing one.
Examine each subject's needed textbooks. The IAS exam book list, current events notes, NCERT notes, and other materials are available at the websites listed below.
The Prelims CSAT paper and the Mains Ethics paper are not to be taken lightly. Similarly, failing to score at least 25% in the two qualifying language tests in Mains will automatically disqualify you from the IAS test procedure, regardless of your great performance in the other disciplines.
Make time to prepare for the Prelims by practising MCQs and the Mains by composing answers.
Revise multiple times before editing your notes and revising once more.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE IAS EXAM IN ONE YEAR
Is it possible to pass UPSC in a year's time? Yes, following a few fundamental guidelines can assist an aspirant in completing the assignment.
CURRENT AFFAIRS: Candidates are recommended to read the newspaper faithfully every day in order to stay informed about current events. This activity can be carried out by visiting various websites, reading current affairs publications and other materials, downloading mobile applications to receive daily updates, and so on.
MOCK TESTS: Previous year's question papers and sample papers are the most credible and certified sources for gaining an understanding of the paper's content. Solving various types of papers teaches a candidate how to effectively manage his or her time in an examination hall by providing an overview of the pattern and difficulty level of the paper. These practice examinations serve as a baseline for evaluating one's knowledge and preparation.
KEY THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: Making notes and jotting down key ideas are two effective habits that will not only assist the applicant pass the exam, but will also aid in consolidation, memorizing, and easy review prior to the exam. These notes are a condensed version of the entire syllabus that can save a candidate's bacon at the last minute. He or she may examine them at any point prior to the examination. It's an effective revising strategy.
REVISION- Revision is not something that a candidate is encouraged to undertake before the exam; it is something that the aspirant is expected to do throughout the year. An individual should start doing this technique on the first day of preparation and make it a habit. Whatever you've memorized or studied should be reread before going to bed and even the next day to maintain track of what you've learned.
PROPER SLEEP  -  A candidate should pay attention to his or her sleeping routine in addition to his or her academics and a strict timeline. It's also worth noting that sleeping deprivation leads to nothing. To increase your vitality and concentration, you must sleep.

Make time to prepare for the Prelims by practicing MCQs and the Mains by composing answers.
Revise multiple times before editing your notes and revising once more.

How tough is the IAS exam competition?
IAS exam (UPSC Civil Services Exam) is widely considered the toughest exam in India. Why?
This is not because of the difficulty of the questions asked. Of course, the questions which come in the Preliminary, Mains or Interview stages of the IAS exam are not easy. But IAS exam is tough to crack because the selection ratio is very less.
There is only a limited number of vacancies every year (only approximately 1000, for all the 24 services combined like IAS, IPS, IFS, etc. – and this includes 49.5% reservation).
The competition is huge. And, the quantity and quality of the competition are increasing exponentially. The selection can now be rightly called ‘one in a million as more than 1 million aspirants apply for the exam – including those for IITs, IIMs, etc.
