✿ [ Coraline ]
☂ ♈ᖺᙓ ᙓ✖ᖰᒪᗝᖇᗴᖇ ☂

"Why not? It’s just a little muddy out there!”
Stubbornly she refused to hear the rain pouring down, turning the dirt into sludge, just as she skirted answering her mother’s question with one of her own. The obstinance mirrored in their faces was just evidence to how similar they were, despite fighting more often then hugging. Her next words are spoken in a sulky, resentful mutter, quietly but clearly enough that she certainly meant for her mother to respond.
”Anyway, what do you care?”
Hoped for her to respond, really.
✿ ―
Words hurt, Mel had learn this throughout her life, but no words hurt more than some of the ones a child can throw against their mother. But sometimes it jut made her annoyed, a knowing that Coraline just wanted to get her own way. She would learn when she grew up, or at least Mel could hope she would.
❝Well, I care about your health for one. I have too much work to take a hospital trip.❞ She sighed, looking over the kitchen table to the sulking babe. ❝Nothing else you want to do today?❞

✿ [ Coraline ]
mulchmom liked this post for a starter
☂ ♈ᖺᙓ ᙓ✖ᖰᒪᗝᖇᗴᖇ ☂

"Mom, c’mon, it’s barely drizzling!”
The storm raging on outside seems to grow even louder, lighting cracking in the distance, as if determined to prove her wrong. But there’s no such thing as too much rain for a stir-crazy eleven year old with plants that need tending, so she presses on, face reddening with a fervor.
“The tulips need to be weeded! And besides, I’ve got my slicker on.”
✿ ― Mel had gotten to a point in her life where she wasn't even phased by her daughter's consistent begging, however this was really something; she just didn't understand why the girl had such an obsession with gardening in the pouring down rain. Rain made mud, and mud made a mess, and then Mel had to clean up that mess because like hell would she manage to get Coraline to do it without a fuss.
❝It's thunder and lightning outside, Coraline! Do you really think this is good weather for gardening?❞ She already knew what that answer would likely be.
#exploriing#ic;#para;#((oh coraline#when will you learn that you're not going outside in the rain~ ))#((Thank you for the starter!))

To be fair, she had asked I mean, even Mel got a bit curious when there were rumours of the living dead in the town you were visiting Not to mention Coraline hadn't shut up about it since she had been told just where her parents' away-work was taking them.
❝Hm.❞ It was hard to tell if the kid was telling to truth or whether the entire town were crazies. They all didn't seem too far off of the folks back in Ashland, but then again they were all a bit... eccentric. In fact, Norman seemed like the most down-to-earth of the lot. She'd humour him for now. Heck, it was a rare time she wasn't busy, and she could probably take a story or two back to the blue-haired wonder.
❝How'd that happen, then?❞
«☠» why he even decided to tell someone who he knew would be incredulous ? blue hues eye the ground as he continues, unsure why. her skepticism would probably drive her away, anyway. ❝ …yeah, they did — i-i’ll understand if you don’t believe me, though.❞

Friendly reminder that my muse is not immutable. Over time their attitude, behavior, and headcanons may change. Their opinions or standings may not always be the same. I am not twisting my muse out of character by changing their opinions, I am giving them a fucking relatable quality because none of us are immutable and won’t always have the same opinion of everything.
#((Posting this to Mel#because Maestro is a stubborn asshole#Mel however may get different opinions of things))

Just because this is an RP blog, doesn't mean I won't answer questions like an ask blog. My askbox is always open to any questions you might have for my muse.

✿ ― If only she knew what eternally plagued you, child, if only she could b e l i e v e you. But alas an adults mind is also plagued, with thoughts of bills and life and work, each one forcing out belief in faeries and monsters and worlds of Others in an attempt to make room for itself. The world around them was grey and bleak, and she had settled on finding solace in the little things. But she admired your imagination sometimes, Coraline; she admired how you could believe so firmly in something, in anything at all. Mel hoped that her daughter would never lose that. Perhaps in a future or a universe so far away, Mel would fall through or a portal- a well or something similar- and be whisked away to a land where she could believe through her own eyes. To confirm everything true that her daughter had claimed, to bring them closer... but to also make her realize what a horrible mother she had been. If it had been real, she only wished she knew for certain. She crumpled her lips, a little hurt at the comment. Although Coraline likely didn't mean it, those comments reminded her where she had failed. Of course, she wouldn't really show it; a parent's emotions weren't to be plagued. Children had their own big lives to worry about.
❝I know I get busy sometimes, but-❞ She walked into the room, taking a seat at the end of the bed. She placed a hand on her daughter's leg comfortingly. ❝I do care, Coraline. I don't want to see you upset.❞ Seeing you upset only made her upset inside.
⊰ ℂ ⊱ —— ;
Some thing’s would never be unpacked. Just recently, that tarnished sleeping bag was replaced with a bedspread. Blue. Just the way she liked it. Alas, she who laid flat upon it neglected to marvel its finer details. Her arms dangled off the side of the bed as her toes point to the ceiling. A sigh is coaxed by the atmosphere easily and trapped by the weight of the world. Her chest is heavy, like it had been bestowed with a terrible tragedy. Softly, lidded eyes stare at the water burns sewn on top of the room.
She didn’t find any reason to wonder about that this time.
When her night light illuminated a dark room any other night, she’d stare for hours at the muddled ceiling, trying to make the water damage into shapes and other images. Sometimes the night would crawl by so quickly, she’d had no time for sleep before the alarm shattered silence. Then the following day, school would be a pain for her. But it was totally worth it.
Tonight, Coraline thought of nothing. There were hints here and there tugging at her brain, but everything was shaken away. Her lips thinned ; her sprinkled cheeks were barren of colour. She wanted no thoughts. She wanted absolutely nothing. Just like that one place in that one… terrible… world. Quickly, it flashed before her mind. The memories of that world ; hell had been created, but mended in a way it was accessible. Truly a bother. To know it might still exist, yet it haunts her.
{ AND IT ALWAYS WILL. }
It was really quite late. The clock was pushing for eight ; beyond her window, the moon was climbing its ladder. Coraline let a suspire expel from her crooked nose. At the moment, she heard a squeak. “The Jumping Mice?!” But it was only the door. Her fear sat her up, and her depression pushed her back down.
“Ugh…. Why do you care ? It’s not like you listen, anyway.”

✿ ― Mel Jones was nothing special; she wasn't extravagant and she had no real superpowers; Mel Jones was human. But she did have one thing that wasn't to be trifled with: She was a mother. She knew she wasn't the best one at times, but if there was one thing she did it was care for her beautiful little girl with all her heart. Mothers were special in their own way. They could fix issues that most would consider impossible, they could multi-task for the world and juggle a million things at once (although perhaps not with ease, but better than most), and more importantly they could always sense when something was up with their baby. Coraline would always be her baby.
❝Everything okay?❞ Her voice was soft-spoken, a tone of sympathy underlined. She tried her hardest to be open for Coraline to talk to, but obviously it seemed that a lot of the time it just wasn't easy to open up to a parent. She stood at the doorway of the younger girl's bedroom, head peaking around the door as if not to intrude the other's space; usually she wouldn't care so much, but she had overheard the words she had spoken to herself, realizing that something was obviously up.
⊰ ℂ ⊱ —— ;
“It’s just another one of those nights.
I can get over this.”

Since rules and such aren't up yet, I'll mention it here:
Greeters are given to people that Mel can interact with in the every-day world. So non-humans or people from the future are a no-go.
I'm open to plotting to find some ways for characters to meet though, likely with AUs included.

✿ ―
It was one of those mornings where the fog surrounded the Pink Palace as if it wanted ever-so badly to give it a cold, suffocating hug. The rain from the previous night dripped from the branch of a dying tree and onto the nose of Hamish, the lone dog that Mel Jones had- now regrettably- offered to walk for Miss Spink and Miss Forcible. 'Now, see, we would take them all out for a walk' Spink's words echoed in her head, 'It's just Hamish is getting on and he needs fresh-air to keep him well these days.' With Charlie at work and Coraline at school, she had unfortunately been stuck with the task of escorting the old, shaggy pooch. 'Just take him to the well and back, dear- but, oh, do mind falling in' she had been warned. Ha. As if she were going to just up and jump down it. ❝Best take you up the hill then, boy.❞ Positively enthralled, Mel pulled her coat-collar closer to her face and set off down the old road, scottie bouncing away in front of her. It was a rather freezing, uneventful journey. That was right until the tiny dog began to bark at something in the trees that likely wasn't there. Mel supposed it was that cat again. The noise quickly grated at her nerves. Loosening the grip on the lead, she tried to approach the animal to comfort it; Hamish yanked forwards, pulling the leash right out of her hands; he seemed quite angry as he bounded up towards the old well and way past it. ❝HAMISH!- Ugh. This day keeps getting worse and worse...❞
With a grumble, she darted up the hill after the dog, sploshing through the muddy mess that the ground had unfortunately become. So lost in her thoughts, Mel didn't even consider where her feet were going, heavily stomping on the floor around her and crushing anything in her way.
❝HAMI-❞ She let out a surprised scream as she felt her foot hover for a moment, before placing firmly onto the air itself. Her heart jumped up her chest, experiencing a feeling some-what like when you miss the stair on the staircase. Her whole body bundled downwards, falling fast, yelling scared. The woman closed her eyes tight, certain that in that moment, she was going to die. The darkness of the well consumed her.
And then she woke up, alive and well. Mel was huddled in a safety position, laying on the floor in between the outskirts of a world so familiar to her own, and yet not. She dared not open her eyes in fear of what greeted her, having not yet figured out that she was still living. After-all, moms knew everything, but even death was slightly beyond their knowledge.
