In June 1969, while on vacation in Italy… “George lit a candle and grabbed a guitar that was leaning against the sofa and began playing. For me, all these impressions were very intense, the island, this wonderful house with the old tree in the middle, the whole atmosphere and then George’s atmospheric guitar playing. I noticed how exhausted I was and had to take a seat. Finally I had the opportunity to really observe George. He looked at me with his dark brown eyes and I can’t remember ever again seeing George look so peaceful and relaxed. That’s what a person who has completely come to terms with himself and everything around him looks like, I thought. I envied him. It was as if he could see right into me. ‘You need quiet, Klaus, real quiet, not just today or tomorrow. All this madness with touring, studio work, writing songs, giving interviews, television and so on. That ruins us, we can’t let that happen. We have to go against it.’” - Klaus Voormann (translated from Warum spielst du Imagine nicht auf dem weißen Klavier, John?)
