âThat is the most bullshit thing I have ever heard from you yet, holy shit,â he says. âYou were absolutely that bad.â Even so, he pauses, pondering the suggestion. âOkay, hm, thatâs a thought. Consider it, like, Plan D or something.â He canât believe heâs contemplating that. But.
âYouâre the one that got us banned from the zoo, little brother.â Alright, maybe heâs somewhat responsible for that one. Somewhat. â...If any of your higher-priority plans include expecting them to listen to reason, scratch them off the list in advance. Iâm going to go locate chains strong enough to hold them.â

âYeah, even I realized it was a little ridiculous. We really were that bad.â You were too and he will never let you forget it. âFair, yeah, we chewed through those like paperâŠmaybe we can find like, demon kiddie leashes? Do they make those?â Do theyâŠ?Â
âYou mean you were. I was less trouble.â Is he managing to say that with a straight face? Almost. âIf they do, theyâre more akin to chains. Which may not be a bad idea...â

âIâm glad you caught yourself before you finished that question. As for the leashes... those failed to keep us in line as toddlers. Do you really think theyâd do any good here?â

âThank you! AndâŠhere we go! One movie, minus meddling friends and family.â She gave him a smile before settling into her own seat to watch with him. âWhich I apologize about again.â She still wanted to strangle Mana and the others for thinking getting her drunk would change a thing.
âYou can hardly control the actions of others,â Vergil said, dismissing her apology with a tired look and a lifted eyebrow. âOr should I apologize for everything Dante does?â If that were how it worked, he wasnât sure heâd had time to ever do anything else. (And maybe that was being unkind to his brother, but still. She didnât need to apologize.)

âActually,â Tallyn says, leaning back and already feeling a lot more at ease, now that he knows heâs not in trouble, âpeace and quiet are exactly why I came over. My roommate has friends visiting, so my sister and I had to clear out for the day.â Stella took her truck and went for a drive, but heâs not going to mention that if he doesnât have toâthis guy doesnât know it, but sheâs still grounded, and he doesnât feel like throwing her under the bus.  âI know that sounds insane, but Iâm used to the noise here, and I think itâd be creepier if a day went by where something didnât explode.â Whether it be him accidentally starting a fire, or the electricity shutting off again, or someone (Patty, Lady, whoever) showing up to make Danteâs life hell. The chaos is familiar; itâs comforting.
âYou donât have to hang out, if you donât want to,â he says, noting the other guyâs posture (and if awkward has a smell, this guy reeks of it).  âI wonât be offended. Small talk fuckinâ sucks.â Even as he speaks the words, Tallyn thinks to himself that they may not have a choice. This guy (and hisâŠbrother? Friend? The other one) may not be allowed to leave the office. Which, in that caseâthatâs a little concerning, but more importantly means they have to make nice if theyâre going to see a lot of each other. And, unlike his sister, Tallyn isnât so ready to believe theyâre being tossed aside, so heâs not planning to stop coming here anytime soon.
âIf you can find this place relaxing, then far be it from me to stop you,â Vergil says, skeptical that itâs even possible but aware Tallyn is completely sincere in his sentiments. âThough as... energetic as the people here are, I suppose it isnât without its charms.â For some people, at least. Itâs certainly not neat and orderly and organized, so he canât say he likes it all that much, but he knows there are people who thrive in chaos. (And a sister? He hopes sheâs not a firestarter, or if she is at least not as nervous about it as her brother is.)
The offer to let him leave is kind, but Vergil shakes his head with a rueful half-smile. âIâve nowhere else to go, Iâm afraid. My brother and I and,â here he hesitates, because heâs still not entirely sure where he stands or where he will stand with Kat, â...our friend... are refugees, of sorts, and my circumstances in particular are complicated.â He wonât say heâs a prisoner, even if thatâs technically what he is (at least in his own mind, itâs what his situation seems like), so this is as much of an explanation as heâs willing to give for himself. Anything else, Tallyn can ask elsewhere. âBut Iâve no intention of bothering you, if youâd prefer not to interact.â

etosvitriâ:
The question gets an embarrassed laugh in response Oh, Tallyn has a pretty good idea of why his demonic power spiked all of a sudden, but this guy isnât going to like the answer. Nor has he come up with a way to fix the problem yet. Still, lying or ignoring the question isnât an option, not when the guy already looks about as mad as a wet cat.
âNerves,â he says at last, shrugging and flopping down on the soot-stained couch.  âI-Itâs not a you problem, you havenât done anything, Iâm justâIâm kind of a nervous person, andâŠâ He shrugs again, silently gesturing to the minor destruction he caused. Itâs as far as heâll go to admit to being less than human. Besides, this guy doesnât need it spelled out for him. Tallynâs sure he was sniffed out just as easily as he sniffed the two newcomers out, so thereâs no dancing around the issue.  âItâll be fine,â he adds, âitâs honestly just nerves, so Iâll get over it.â
With the threat over, Vergil moves to lean against the wall, having no interest on sitting so close to the firestarter or in perching on a sooty couch. âIf itâs nerves, then I suggest you do something to relax,â he says slowly, though he sighs and shakes his head. âNot that Iâm the one to ask about that.â No, he thinks, itâs not like he knows how to relax --- he never has and never will, and he suspects the the way most of the people here would suggest wouldnât go over too well with someone who would fall over himself from a little of Danteâs snarling.
âSo long as you donât think it will happen again, it doesnât matter to me,â he adds, though that isnât entirely true. He doesnât like reminders of how much is outside of his control these days, and it looks like Tallynâs... issue could be a very big reminder if this happens again. Vergil isnât exactly in any mood to be social, either, but heâs aware that a certain amount of politeness is expected when one is a... guest (prisoner, more accurately, but he hasnât called himself that where anyone can hear it, and for good reason) in someone elseâs home. âDid you leave another book here?â He asks, prepared to engage in small talk if he needs to in order to distract both of them from the less-comfortable topics staring them both in the face. âYou canât have come here for peace and quiet.â Not a place with two Dantes. Peace and quiet canât exist here, Vergilâs sure about that.

If he werenât too anxious to make noise in public, Tallyn would scream right nowâin fright, in frustration at how his controlâs been slipping lately, it doesnât matter. He wants to yell, but thereâs another person here, so the noise sticks in his throat and he tries instead not to give in to the temptation of destroying a pillow. Heâll reconsider that laterâright now, thereâs a fire to be smothered.
âAh! Iâm sorry, shitââ he says, leaping up to grab as many things as he can to put out the flames.  âI dunno what happened, I wasnât even thinking about doing anything?â Maybe his blood is throwing a tantrum? Maybe itâs grown a mind of its own and is rebelling against him? Thatâs a terrifying thought, and one Tallyn canât afford to lose himself to while thereâs still a larger problem. Namely: his home being on fire.
Luckily, the fire itself is small, and is quickly smothered without too much damage to the furniture. Some soot stains, and the pillow in his hand is done for (and thereâs that temptation again), but nothing that canât be fixed or cleaned up. At least, he thinks, looking sheepishly at the other guy, nothing physical.  âIâm sorry,â he repeats, rubbing the back of his neck.  âItâŠshouldnât happen again. It normally never happens, so fingers crossed this was just a fluke?â
Vergil takes another step back, away from the fire --- he does not want near anything that can burn, thank you, he knows exactly what sort of injuries that leaves. Fire itself isnât what heâs most acquainted with, no, but itâs still something he dislikes on principle. He watches, unsure of what to do or how to do it and hating everything about that uncertainty, until the fire is out. Even then he canât relax, instead folding his arms over his chest and tucking his hands under his arms as he frowns at the damage.
âAccidents happen,â he says, but doesnât shift out of his defensive posture, tense and still unhappy that he canât settle himself like he would have been able to before all of his work on his soul was undone and his trigger locked away. âBut --- if it isnât normal, then do you have any idea of what caused it this time?â There has to be a cause, after all, and anything with a cause can end up controlled if you can just work out what that is. The thought of uncontrollable fire-starting being anywhere near him is enough to make him want to be wherever Tallyn isnât.Â

â i confess, i messed up. â(Tallyn to either Vergil, whoever u have the mood for)
ââMessed upâ is not the phrasing this calls for,â Vergil says, staring wide-eyed as he backs away from the small but very-obvious fire thatâs crawling up the furniture near him. âWould you --- put it out.â He doesnât like this; in fact heâs sure he hates it, because he doesnât know where anything is in this place yet and heâs reasonably sure this building is not in any kind of shape to live up to proper fire codes and he doesnât have people he can tell to fetch extinguishers or do anything about it, and would any of the people here listen to him if he told them to do anything? (He doubts it, he has nothing, no control over anything, and now on top of that things are on fire.)
