I'm just gonna dump this height chart my sister threw together some months ago which now includes "the mother" as of today. She mostly went by head sizes but there are some references as well. It's not super accurate, but uh, yeah, "the mother" a child...
Also why did they make her look even younger in the new image? The other picture of her (top right) is more around Setsuna's height, I think.
Well, it looks like my initial thought before the confirmation was correct: "the mother" has been preserved to be the same age as her "kids".

Let me get this straight: R*n is dying for some reason, her wakefulness and life is connected to Zero for some reason, she got pickled somehow after leaving Kaede (her nanni now, I guess), she's been in the tree for 14 years and S*sshomaru just watches her doing nothing after abandoning the kids. When Zero dies, R*n starts to die and he brings Zero back to life (how does he have Tenseiga???) to keep R*n alive but still suspended. So he just stands there doing nothing. Did nothing for 14 years.
What is this? "Little Snow White" from the Grimm fairy tales?
R*n is probably around 14 considering Hisui being a toddler when she gave birth, but she was 8 in the OG series which Trashahime presents the origin of her "love" story
Disney's Snow White was 14, but she is 7 in the original tale from 1812
R*n is suspended in a tree to keep her from dying which keeps her from aging
Snow White was put in a glass casket after she was assumed dead
S*sshomaru just watches her for 14 years
The prince in Snow White intended to keep her in the casket as a piece of furniture/art, but only found out she was alive after the casket was mistakenly dropped and the poison apple dislodged from her throat
So uh, S*sshomaru is a long lived demon who screwed a little human girl who's is now just kept around for 14 years. He even turned away from Treekyo when she said he has to do something or she would die. Does he want her to stay there forever? To maintain her youth? He chooses to keep things as they have been for the past 14 years.
That is literally what happens in the old Snow White tale both of which involving a little girl getting ogled by a grown man while she is unconscious. Both men suposedly fall in love with a prepubescent child.
But unlike the show, Trashahime is actually intended for a young audience unlike the Grimm tales.
There is however no parallel in Trashahime for the Grimm tale's iron shoes, but I would prefer to dance in hot iron myself than think on this show any more than I have already.

Inuyasha Chapter 343-345 Miroku's "Fiance" an "Error from the Past"
In the anime, Miroku had asked a 13 year old child to bare his children—while he hadn’t seemed to have been completely serious, it was still a very odd thing even to Sango and Inuyasha who grew up in that era.
However, the chapters that episode is based on doesn’t actually reveal the age of the girl named Shima nor does it illude to her being incredibly young. These chapters are actually about Sango's jealous towards Miroku's supposed "fling" or "past girlfriend". [Edit: I mixed up the chapters. In the episode I mention, Miroku actually asked an 11 year old to bare is children named Koharu. It is never suggested that he slept with her like Shima, but it's still incredibly gross for him to ask a tiny 11 year old that. And she WAS tiny in her flashbacks, he knew but he said that anyway.]

The only timeline we are given is that Miroku met Shima 2 years ago. Now, I and others in the manga refer to her as girl since she is clearly a teenager much like how Kagome is referred to by girl. I do not have access to the Japanese version, but I am assuming that they used the pronoun "onago" for her which apparently refers to girls under the age of 20 or perhaps 19. I would like to double check with my Japanese friend, but I don't have the Japanese version. However, as the chapter goes on it becomes very very clear that Shima was a teenager 2 year ago and that she wasn't obscenely young in that time like she was portrayed in the anime.

Notice how Kagome and Sango react to Miroku upon hearing this compared to how they physically recoiled in the anime. Here is just as he always was: a womanizer but not a man who preyed on a little girl. Miroku is apparently 18 in present day and would have been 16 2 years prior, but even in the anime, it was creepy for him to have said such a thing to a young girl. Here there is no such reaction.

Sango acts very aggressive towards Miroku throughout the chapter because she expresses jealousy over his "past girlfriend" showing up. She expresses this explicitly by the end. At this point, the parents of Shima and trying to get Miroku to marry Shima hense Sango's displeasure since Miroku had started going "steady" with her some chapters earlier and had even promised to marry each other (He had yet to give up his womanizing completely however, so their relationship is still on the rocks. Yes, this is one of my gripes with his character and their relationship, but this is focussing on whether he had canonically hit on a 13 year old child).

Moving on, the demon bargain with the father for healing Shima (apparently but it's not clear if he had did anything but make do on the promises of the father to "give anything" for his daughter's health) had been on the terms that Shima was a pure girl to become his bride. The father suggest marriage will stop the demon's advanced but Miroku doesn’t agree that it would solve the problem.

To stop the demon's advances, Shima confesses to having had "joined" with Miroku 2 years ago that is to say that she is not "pure". Since she was obviously not wed and her insitence that she was not pure, it is clear that she confessed to having sex with him. This shocks the demon and infuriates Sango yet she hides her fury behind saying that it was a mistake of his back then something that she would have expected considering Miroku's history.

However, as it turns out, that was a lie on Shima's part as an attempt to get out of marrying the demon. Buuut as it also turns out, Miroku just couldn't remember if he had had sex with her despite trying to play it off as expecting Sango to trust him.

Now it is abundantly clear that Miroku has in fact slept with multiple girls in the past since one can't just forget if they are a virgin or not, he just couldn't remember if he did in fact sleep with Shima.
I can feel the presence of weirdos coming to say 13 is old enough to have sex, but this is wrong for so many reasons that I don't even have the energy to describe right now. (Btw, most places in Japan the age of consent is 16-18 except for two islands which are uninhabited https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-is-the-age-of-consent-in-japan.html) I will however describe why it seems like Shima was at least Kagome's age those 2 year prior meaning that she is about Miroku's age during this chapter.
The reason I speculate that she is ~17/18 and was ~15/16 is because Kagome is 16 and a modern girl. Had Shima been younger and implied to have been significantly younger than 16, Kagome would have likely expressed shock as she did in the anime [edit: rather in chapter 147 about Koharu, so obviously Shima is considered old enough by Kagome unlike Koharu]. This is the same Kagome whom Rumiko didn't even have kiss Inuyasha until she returned after she graduated. There isn't anything in the chapters that make Shima seem incredibly young like she was in the anime, at least from what I can see from an English translation. I also doubt that the Japanese version refers to Shima as being such a young girl as she was in the anime since the context is that of jealously on Sango's part rather than disgust over bedding such a young girl.
So that's my analysis of that...but there's one little tidbit I'd like to point out 😏 Chapter 343 is called "Fiance" and it actually opens with Sesshomaru and Kagura. This chapter is actually when Rin proclaims that Kagura must be in love with Sesshomaru. Just a little tidbit that was an interesting coincidence considering this this is the first time Rin makes such an observation about Kagura. Quite an interesting chapter name for Rumiko to have Rin make that remark.

Also Kagura is very clearly trying to get Sesshomaru to help her kill Naraku for her freedom which is why Jaken lements over how simply minded she is, but as we would find out much later, Kagura did in fact have affection for Sesshomaru and he did of her during her passing.

The Cutting Wind Technique (Wind Scar)
Inuyasha and Sesshomaru have never had wind abilities and even the Tessaiga does not have nor grant wind power because the Wind Scar or Cutting Wind is a technique that can draw out the swords cutting power.
I know a lot of people have mentioned that Inuyasha nor Sesshomaru and their family have wind abilities that can be passed down, but I wanted to analyze exactly what the Wind Scar is and how it differs from an inate inhereted ability. The original manga makes it incredibly clear how the Wind Scar is a technique taking advantage of the environment rather than an ability from within.
When Inuyasha first learns about the Wind Scar from Sesshomaru, he remarks that the smell of Sesshomaru's aura or "dark energy" (in this translation) marks where there is a "tear" in the wind.

After the fight, Inuyasha explains why Sesshomaru is able to find the wind scar much more naturally.

Sesshomaru simply has a better sense of smell due to him being a full demon rather than a half demon like Inuyasha. It is easier for him to sense the auras of others and where they clash in the air.
The technique is not an inward ability of Inuyasha's but something that results in a powerful strike by attacking where the tear in the wind appears. Later on when Inuyasha fights Kagura, the nature of the tear is revealed to be the disruption of "youki" when it collides with other youki (I will just substitute with aura since I'm not sure if Youki is the right word).

While Kagura is able to manipulate the wind at will using her own aura and demonic abilities, Inuyasha relies on the disruption of aura to find the most effective place to cut and draw out the strength of Tessaiga. He is unable to do that however because he is inside of Kagura's auro–a homogenous atmosphere does not have disruptions from colliding auras; this is unlike his fight with Sesshomaru where his aura was clashing with the natural wind and atmosphere. Kagura has all the wind under her control which prevents the tear in the wind from ever forming. That is until Inuyasha realized how he can get Kagome to disrupt Kagura's aura.

Inuyasha has Kagome shoot a purifying arrow into the wind purifying Kagura's aura in its path. Kagura is able to take back control of the purified wind but that simple disturbance in her aura creates a tear in the wind allowing Inuyasha to draw out the cutting power of the Tessaiga defeating Kagura.
Yet it does not stop there. Inuyasha is later able to use the wind scar at will without having to manipulate the environment; does that mean it really was an interesting ability of his? No actually.

the context of this panel is that Inuyasha had just gotten his sword reforged with his own fang by Totosai after it had been broken. Before it was solely his father's forged blade made of his father's fang and now the blade is reforger using his own fang. Notice that the smell of disrupted aura that signifies to Inuyasha where the wind tears is now surrounding the blade. The wind is being disrupted there, but now it is due to Inuyasha's own aura clashing with the environment. Now that Inuyasha has made the sword his own physically and metaphorically, it resonates with his own aura and because the aura exists around the blade, the wind is disrupted. It is still not an ability coming from within but a result of the presence of aura and how it clashes in the environment disrupting the air and causing a tear. This is why Inuyasha can use the Wind Scar even without the presence of other demons because his sword now emits its own aura disrupting the wind on its own.
If I were to compare this to something irl, I would say it's like the difference between controlling the wind and manipulating it to produce sound in an instrument like the flute. There are sweet spots in the shape of the flute's lip plate due to its shape and the sound can be manipulated by how one blows into the hole of the flute. When you want to make the strongest and most powerful sound you can, you must find that sweet spot that can change depending on the note that's being fingered. Inuyasha is just finding that sweet spot in the air that has the least resistance to his attack allowing it to come out much stronger than it does otherwise. If that makes sense.
#inuyasha#wind scar#analysis#inuyasha and Sesshomaru don't have wind powers#Tessaiga doesn't even have wind powers#It's legit just a technique#or maybe I'm just crazy
