Acotar Rant

If I see another take saying "What Rhysand did to Feyre utm was for her protection!!!" I am going to riot.

What protection? Sweetheart, point me in the direction of the protection.

"It was so she wouldn't break" Oh so sitting in a dungeon is more traumatic than being drugged and SAed?

"It was so Amarantha wouldn't hurt her!" Rhysand bringing Feyre out only brought Amarantha's attention to her, reminding her of Feyre's existence and putting her in the spotlight of the enemy.

"The drugging stopped Feyre from being forced to remember!" So give her alcohol in the dungeon, then she can choose to drink it and still forget.

Rhysand made Feyre give him lap dances until she threw up. Until. She. Vomited. Then forced her to do it again and again. She was coherent here enough that she remembers all of this.

"Oh it was so he could make Tamlin angry enough!" Tamlin was angry. He was scared shitless for Feyre's safety as pointed out in the text. Multiple times in the first few pages of Feyre seeing him again for the first time utm, he 'went very very still', 'went white', started shaking etc etc.

Tamlin was playing a mask. Feyre acknowledged it. She said herself "he loves me enough that even now he is still trying to protect me."

Tamlin was going to kill Amarantha the first chance he got anyway. He was under spells that even Rhysand couldn't penetrate, the supposed 'most powerful High lord'. If the one who is supposed to be the strongest can't break free from Amarantha what makes you think Tamlin can?

Rhysand abused Feyre under the mountain. He sexually assaulted her, physically assaulted her, emotionally traumatized her, for literally no reason at all.

So before everyone goes and runs with what Rhysand SAID he did, lets go back and remember what he ACTUALLY did.

You know I highly doubt all the people that have died and suffered and been hurt because of rhys give a flying fuck that it was all just a mask.They suffered anyways so wether it was by somebody actually evil or somebody just pretending it doesn’t matter.Literally nobody cares that it was all an act because rhys’s actions still had consequences and people had to be the bearer of those consequences,not him—all because rhys was doing it for the greater good (to protect 1/3 of his court because who cares about the rest)and he had no other choice (debatable).

Like can you imagine the people of the hewn city finding out their high lord isn’t actually the evil asshole he pretends to be but for some reason they’ve been trapped underground for centuries and the women still don’t have rights 😍😍.

I wouldn’t care about any of this if rhys didn’t act like some misunderstood nice guy and instead took some accountability and actually dropped the mask he insists isn’t who he really is.

Acotar Rant

So I had to reread the scene that Rhysand threatens Nesta's life to write a oneshot and I am fucking disgusted.

For starters Cassian spends the majority of the previous page cursing himself for not violating Nesta's privacy by barging into her bathroom because if he had he would have been able to keep her locked in the House and not allowed her to go down the ten thousand steps to the River House, which is the only way out of the House and the thing that Pro IC people say is the reason she was not 'locked up'.

So already, he was mentally taking away her ability to leave. Quite literally wishing he had actually imprisoned her.

The next thing which stood out, was when Cassian went to the River House. He found Feyre GIVING RHYSAND A REPORT.

Instead of, I don't know, telling him he shouldn't have fucking hidden the fact she could have fucking died. She was sitting before his desk, like a lackey, giving a fucking report on what happened. A. Formal. Report. About the fact that she was informed that she was going to fucking die.

It is fucking disgusting. Rhysand made her give a report. She gave a fucking report to her husband AS IF SHE IS LOWER

I don't know what idiots are still pretending Feyre has any kind of bodily autonomy in the Night Court, but she has none at all. She gives a report. A report that she was told what was going to happen to her. She gave this report while sitting before Rhysand's desk like an employee.

It is awful. It is poorly written. Feyre has no choice. No autonomy. She is a toy to be fucked, bred and shown off. She is everything she never wanted to be. And it is disgusting.

The fact that Feyre hated that Tamlin was buying her dresses (even though that was all Ianthe's idea) because she didn't like that they were her "uniform."

But the moment she's in the night court, she has no issue wearing them for meetings, even though that's exactly why she was wearing them in the Spring Court 😭

That was of course completely altruistic of him. No question.

Drugging, humiliating and degrading Feyre was so much better than just leaving her be in hopes of Amarantha ignoring her existence, of course.

Having her dance in through the night, clothed in a TISSUE was helping her rest physically. Because you're so rested when you literally danced all night.

What they're doing there is real mental gymnastics.

Moving onto this gem:

Using the same logic on that: People who think Rice sand was valid for anything he did have evidently never been drugged and SA'd in a club, which is not a fun experience altogether.

Hanging on by a thread for a multitude of reasons.

So, looking up acotar fan art one inevitably gets smacked in the face with Fey/sand at some point. And if it's not them with their kid or cutely holding hands, it's something like this:

Why are people making a big quantity of art of this particular part of acotar? Are there truly people thinking that this is in any way appealing? Let's recap.

Feyre goes under the mountain, a comparatively dumb little girl. To save her lover Tamlin and maybe her friend Lucien if she's already at it. Faces crunchy Amaranth and doesn't get the riddle right (not wanting to belittle her here bc acotar Feyre was somewhat of a cutie, but that riddle was easy af, way to make her seem like an idiot.) Anyway, get's beaten to unconsciousness after blurting out her name because Lucien would have rather died than to give it away.

Little Feyre get's her three trials and a bunch of tasks for inbetween, i.e. cleaning that hallway. Other than that, people leave little Feyre relatively alone.

Until that self serving prick comes along and thinks to himself "Hey, why not treat her like an object and humiliate her in front of hundreds if not thousands of people, for shits and giggles?" So he proceeds to have his lackeys dress her up in what is essentially a handkerchief and paint her, so everyone can see where he put his grimy hands. And then he drugs her and has her dance for him, barely half aware of what's going on around her. All the while touching her. And the next morning she awakes with a killer headache, barely any memories and the need to throw up.

"But he did this to protect her!" - From what? Nobody cared for her beyond the trials. She was not used as entertainment by anyone else. They had their orgies and whatnot. There was no passable reason to be doing this to her.

"But he only touched her waist and hips!" - So you're telling me that you'd find it okay if somebody drugged you and "only" touched your waist and hips? Touching somebody without their consent, especially in such a vulnerable state is simply gross.

"But he had to keep his mask-" - Shut. Up. His "mask" did not include this particularly disgusting shit he pulled. He could have just let her alone, nobody would have batted a lash. Feyre was a comparatively uninteresting human girl. Had he not made her dance practically naked, no one would have missed her there.

My point, you ask? Stop romanticising what Rhysand did to Feyre under the Mountain. Stop trying to justify it. Those were the actions of an entirely sick individual.
