#LunamiWeek2022 - Day 5 - Gazing into each other's eyes
~
“I have an idea.”
It’s been a long time since they’ve been backed into a corner like this, with no way out that Nami can see, and she’s… she’s starting to lose hope. Even with Luffy at her side, she’s starting to think they’re really not getting out of this alive, not this time. And we’re so damn close, too. So close to the end of the line, so close to finding it. So close to that dream coming true.
She’s panicking, she knows she is, but they’re surrounded, and exhausted (even Luffy, Nami can tell), and they haven’t heard from any of their crewmates in hours. So this, here, today, might well and truly be it for them. “Oi, Nami!”
She inhales sharply, the world coming into focus again when Luffy’s big hands slap lightly at her cheeks before holding her face to make her pay attention. “What? We can’t- Luffy, we’re not gonna-”
“Do you trust me?”
And all at once, the terrified whirlwind inside her stills. Because, “What?” Because, “What kind of stupid question is that?” Something bubbles inside her, hot and angry, as they stare each other in the eyes.
Because never once has Luffy failed her. Never once, since the day he tore her prison apart and freed her, has he given her reason to not believe in him wholeheartedly.
They stay like that for a minute, heartbeat after heartbeat after thunderous heartbeat, just looking into each other’s eyes like it’s the first and last time, and then Luffy’s frown turns into the most blinding of smiles. “We’re getting out of here,” he tells her, a statement of absolute fact, and coils one of his arms tightly, securely around her.
Nami takes a breath. Steady, calming.
Then she grins, and lets Luffy get them out of there.
~
(“I don’t know how he managed it.”
“You were literally right there.”
“Still doesn’t mean I know how he managed it. It shouldn’t have worked, no matter how you looked at it.”
“But it did. And you’re safe now.”
“Well… It’s Luffy, so. I never really doubted it.”)

23102022 - One Piece Film: Red
#LunamiWeek2022 - Day 4 - Side by Side
¡ Spoilers !
~
It's been nearly a week now, since Elegia and Uta's passing (because as hard as they've all tried, there had been no saving her life in the end), and Luffy is still mourning. Understandable, Nami thinks, as she watches her Captain quietly sit by himself, this time on the railing by her tangerine trees. He's lost yet enother piece of his childhood, another loved one, despite his best efforts, He's allowed to mourn as long as he needs.
But, she decides, walking over and silently leaning against the railing besides him. He doesn't need to do it alone.
Because as strong as Luffy is, and as carefree and devil-may-care, even he has his fragile moments, even he can have his heart broken. And even he, sometimes, will need a steady shoulder to lean on. And if Nami can be that for him now (as she still wishes she could have been years ago, when he lost Ace), then she will stand here for as long as she needs to, and offer whatever comfort she can.
Afterall, Luffy is her Captain, and she's his Navigator, and one day, side by side, just like this, they'll make this world theirs.
It might not be tomorrow, it might not even be next week.
But Nami knows, as she feels Luffy's knee press lightly into her arm, just below her tattoo, that he's going to pick himself up again soon, like he usually does, and life, as they know it will, will carry on.

05042022 - One Piece
little bit unexpected (ready for my crown, though)
~
Sitting on one of the armrests of Luffy's armchair, Nami flicks lightly at the ridiculous, tilted crown on his head and smiles.
He scrunches his nose up at her, looking his usual brand of confused, before his face splits into the most blinding of grins. "See, Nami? Told you I'd become the Pirate King one day."
Nami snorts, insufferably fond. "Of course you did." She flicks his nose this time. "I wouldn't have followed you around for so long otherwise," she says, and reaches over to pull on one of his cheeks.
Luffy laughs, full-bellied, loud. Somehow, that, that laugh is still the same, after all these years, after all the fights and the losses and the adventures. Luffy's laughter is still as bright as it was the first time Nami met him. It makes her entire core warm up. I followed a good man, as weird as he may be.
"Will you pick a queen, your majesty?" someone pipes up from somewhere across the room, and for some reason, something twists in Nami's gut. Luffy having a queen... The thought tastes somewhat bitter on the back of her throat. She frowns. It's stupid.
The room breaks out into roaring laughter, their crewmates and their friends finding the concept of Luffy in some sort of romantic relationship absolutely ludicrous and hilarious. Nami doesn't think about why she doesn't.
Someone else suggests Boa Hancock and suddenly, the laughter turns to jeers and wolf whistles and encouragements. Another throws in Princess Vivi as a possibility, and Nami wonders what her face is doing because she catches a glance at Zoro and he's looking at her like he knows something she doesn't. It grates.
"Nah," Luffy says with a wave of his hand. His other hand, his entire other arm, better said, slowly wraps itself round and around Nami's midrift, and it makes her breath catch. She blinks down at the hand that's flattened itself to her ribcage, and then at its owner, just in time to hear Luffy say, "I already have Nami. What more could I need?"
And that's-
That's-
She looks back at Zoro, then at Sanji and at Robin, and she sees only amused and knowing and approving smiles on their faces.
It makes Nami's own face suddenly burn like a raging inferno. "What?" she starts, turning her gaze back to Luffy. "Who said you can make those kinds of decisions by yourself, you idiot? Don't I have a say in this?!" And she tries to sound pissed off, she really does, but it comes out more embarrassed than anything else, and it's really, really annoying. Nami thinks she's probably going to kill someone before the night's over.
Luffy laughs again, high-pitched, and stretches his free hand up and behind him, until he can grab his precious straw hat from where it's been hanging on the corner of the chair's backrest. "I'm the Pirate King," he says, pressing the hat on Nami's head like he's done a dozen, no, a hundred times before. "What I say goes."
And Nami... well, how can she argue with that, really?
And so she pulls the hat lower on her face, to hide her fiery red cheeks from the others, and pinches Luffy's cheek again.
Pirate Queen doesn't sound too bad, after all.
