hopefully "sangatsu is wrapping up" just means that this tournament arc will be the last arc in the manga. souya definitely needs to appear one last time so he can finish his humanizing arc, and I feel like reis definitely going to make it there. the result of that match .. I don't think is that important, I think the important thing is that rei would realise he really does enjoy shogi now and wants a title for himself outside of the expectations placed on him.
also I need to see the smith v. dobashi match so bad.
vaguely related, in the sangatsu live action movies (which I recommend to anyone who hasn't watched them, the second movie isn't translated into english last I checked, but wikipedia has a pretty thorough summary) they wrap it up by having rei beat gotou (after gotou's wife dies, which does work as a wrap up to whatever gotous got going on) for challenger position in the shishiou tournament. then they cut right before the match between souya and rei begins. so basically I'm saying that maybe we'll see gotou again..? I'll be fine without though lol fuck that old man. they're definitely going to show the souya v. rei match in the manga though imo, cause it'll wrap up both their arcs.
crossing my fingers it doesn't end prematurely, because there's so much I want to see happen
i love sangatsu no lion. it is my favorite series of all time.
however, i do worry about the ending of it. my biggest fear is that it will immediately end after the rei v. shimada match, or that it flash forwards to the end of the tournament. i want the ending to take time to slowly dwindle down. i want a conclusion to not just rei’s shogi growth, but i would also love to see him face off against souya one last time. additionally, i would love to see more kouda family content, even though, it is highly unlikely.
all in all, my worry is that the ending will be rushed. what do you guys think?
#also i feel like the ending will have some hope for the future feeling#possible epilogue from kawamoto pov maybe#OR like a old family vs new family#in the live action they also give ayumu a conclusion and its so good#i have too many thoughts

okay clearly this is going nowhere lol but I'll try to respond anyway . while I do agree that that arc was Bad and definitely shows ichikawas political bias in how it's told , I'm not sure how that justifies the fact that you're blaming every single bad event that happens on aechmea without second thought . if ichikawas bias is communicated through aechmea , why would he be a villain in this narrative , like you say ?
also I disagree about aechmea being the villain in the way you phrase it . hnk is told through phos's pov , so obviously finding out that aechmea manipulated phos for his own gain frames him as the villain . however , without reading the manga straight and only through phos's bias , aechmea is clearly not just the Bad Guy Evil Villain , but a man who has done many horrible terrible things to try and help his people escape the curse of immortality , and who suffers for it too (though less than he should by the narrative imo) . having a villain that is set in stone and does all the bad things ever is an awfully shallow reading .
tldr yes he's horrible and has done horrible things and is most definitely a criminal , but please treat him as more than just a Bad Guy who does Bad Things all the time ?
tired of seeing people villainise aechmea to hell and back . "guy that manipulates others to get their way , and seemingly doesn't care for other's wellbeing" literally also describes phos . can we agree that characters are multifaceted please
#tbh i dont even like aechmea#like he fucking sucks but at least i can understand why he sucks ass#because hes written like a person with his own motives

yeah and phos also committed genocide ? but they're still treated as a character with a justifiable motive for their actions . I just want this same treatment for aechmea , who is also a character with complex motives

#what i like most about houseki no kuni are the character conflicts#neither of the parties in the conflict are objectively good or bad just flawed characters trying their best to do what they deem as good#which makes it a very compelling narrative

#houseki no kuni#before someone says that at least phos isnt a groomer#are you just going to label aechmea as Bad and move on#thats just one dimensional villianising like grow up
