okay so here’s my long post i mentioned making on why kilgrave, imo, exhibits borderline traits

so first of all:  bpd is a pretty invasive illness.  people with borderline personality disorder generally suffer from “problems with regulating emotions and thoughts, impulsive and reckless behavior, and unstable relationships with other people.”  I’m going to go down a list of traits (shoutout to @withconscience for writing a rly long thing and insightful thing about faith lehane from buffy having bpd;  i’m stealing kat’s list since i don’t personally have a DSM-V or anything similar, lmao).  Keep in mind you only need 5 out of 9 to qualify for bpd.

aight but can we just take a second to appreciate kilgrave’s cognitive dissonance with his actions since he swings from loving the hell out of jessica to hating her guts and wanting her dead constantly.  depending on when you talk to him and how he feels about jessica in that particular moment, he’ll say he was just defending himself or jump all the way over to trying to ruin her life and make her want to die.  and it’s not because he’s “lying” to you on purpose, but he totally flips everything in his head, and he really believes that whatever he’s telling you is the truth.  he feels so fucking strongly about it that his brain goes “NO I MUST HAVE MEANT THIS AND NOT THAT,” all to try and deal with his emotions running rampant.  because why would he try to hurt her if he loves her so much??  because why wouldn’t he try to kill her if he hates her so much?????  he, like.  can’t emotionally handle it, so he constantly deludes himself to make sense of it all and match it up.
