The first thing I noticed was that the pain was gone. The tall, thin, hooded figure let me bask in that for a moment.
IT IS TIME
"Oh," I said, looking down at the frail vessel I had inhabited all my life. "Right."
COME
"Do you remember," I asked as we walked, "everyone you come for?"
YES
"Fondly?"
I DO NOT JUDGE. AS A RULE, I SPEND LITTLE TIME WITH PEOPLE AS THEY LIVE
"No, but you spend some time with them after, like now."
Death halted.
THERE WAS ONE, TEN YEARS AGO. HE TAUGHT ME A LOT ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN
"To be where the rising ape meets the falling angel?"
AH. I HEAR YOU HAVE MET HIM TOO

On Trump's Military Parade
I stand firmly against military parades, viewing them not as demonstrations of strength, but as costly and dangerous spectacles that put taxpayers and public safety at risk. As Eisenhower is said to have understood, true national strength lies not in ostentatious displays of military might, but in the health and well-being of its people and institutions. This approach to power is deeply concerning, and I believe we must declare "No Kings" to such wasteful and potentially authoritarian displays.

Basic life stuff on Father’s Day your dad may have never taught you
Men’s pants often have what’s called vanity sizing so a 32 inch waist between different brands is actually different sometimes. It’s still a good idea to try the pants on before you buy them.
A flathead screwdriver can be used on a Phillips head screw.
It’s always morally correct to simply walk away from a salesman. You don’t need to buy a mattress to be polite. Just leave. Walk away. Skedaddle.
A complete meal has fat, protein, carbs, and some kind of fruit or vegetable. A snack should have carbs and protein. That’s how you stay full for longer and get your vitamins. It’s really that simple.
Dumpster diving is legal in many countries including the US, Canada, and Australia but trespassing and property damage are illegal. If you are allowed to be in an area and can access the trash without breaking anything you can just take stuff
You should be thinking about retirement savings even in your 20s and 30s. Get a mutual fund.
If you go gambling, only spend cash and pull out exactly as much money as you’re willing to lose from the atm. Never use a credit card in a casino if you can avoid it.
You can add a layer of seasoning to a cast iron skillet right on the stove. You don’t actually have to put it in the oven every time.
To build a fire, build a little pile of kindling first with plenty of air under it. This can be sticks or leftover wood from the hardware store. Doesn’t matter. Then light some newspaper or leaves under it. This’ll help the kindling catch on fire. Then you can add a log to it. The log needs a long exposure to flames before it catches on fire.
Fresh cut wood needs to dry out for several months before it’ll work as either building material or firewood. Several years is even better.
Flower delivery for simple bouquets costs less than you think it does and makes a nice gift for people who are hard to shop for
University libraries often let the general public get a card to check things out from them for a yearly fee. This is useful to know if you’re ever doing some specific research.
To make hard boiled eggs easier to peel boil them with just barely enough to cover and let a lot of the water burn off. Then shock them in an ice bath when they’re done.
If you or your pets end up killing a venemous snake by accident or in self defense you should bury the head so that no animals get poisoned by it because the fangs can still distribute venom
Tall people who visit your house can see the tops of your cabinets and bookshelves. Clean accordingly if you don’t want people to see dust.
Annuals are plants that will die after one year and perennials are plants that live for multiple years
If you feel gross and like your life sucks maybe try getting a haircut

This parade is one of the most thrown-together low-energy events I've ever seen. Our high school float parade had more enthusiasm.
The best part... Trump is bored out of his skull.
Though every once in a while he stands up and salutes.
It's really weird.
Also, they just paused the presentation to thank a sponsor.

Classy.

Thinking about how when the Oceangate sub imploded, the coastguard picked it up on their radar and knew from the moment it happened that everyone on board was already gone, and yet there was still a five day manhunt.
And how like a week before that, a refugee ship sank off the coast of Greece, whose officials knew this was happening and had ships within reach, but intentionally did nothing.
And how there was like the most expansive manhunt in recent history to find a suspect in the UHC shooting. In a city known for its unsolved crimes. How Briana Boston was arrested for a vaguely perceived threat to a CEO she wasn't even speaking to nor mentioned, while internet stalkers are never addressed unless they hurt someone, and then it's a maybe
And just how there is always money to perform for the rich, even when they can't actually be helped. And there is never money to help the poor, no matter how easy they would be to save.
And for some reason it's considered "dangerous and extreme" to want a world where our lives aren't just fodder at the whims of the rich.

Quick reminder for my American followers.
Making threats or calls for violence against specific government officials is something that an authoritarian government would LOVE for you to do because it gives them an excuse to detain and question you.
Don't make posts or reblog things saying a specific government official should be shot or beaten or whatever. That shit could get you taken in and questioned under a Democrat president. Our current administration is aching for the chance to do worse.
Use your brain. Don't make foolish calls for violence out of a sense of anger. You're putting yourself in danger and encouraging others to do the same.
This isn't about tone policing. It's about safety.
You gotta be smart or you're going to put yourself and others in danger.

As we resist Trump’s tyranny, America gains in solidarity. As we gain solidarity, we feel more courageous. As we feel courageous and stand up to Trump, we weaken him and his regime. As we weaken Trump and his regime, we have less to fear.

I absolutely should NOT be arguing with this person, but I find the weaponization of crowd numbers kind of fascinating- as a person who organizes events and DOES use those numbers for a purpose.
"Your (small city) pride had 'hundreds' of attendees? The Taco Truck festival had TENS OF THOUSANDS."
Some key points that pointed out to him- Taco Fest was held in a much larger city (900k to our 34k), on a larger plot of land (35 acre park to our mid-sized parking lot), with a longer showtime (three days to our three hours.) It's somewhat ridiculous to compare the two.
"People from the small city go to the big city all the time. Surely people from the big city must come to your small city- if they were interested. But they weren't interested, which is why your pride was a failure."
Somewhat an admission that you're not from a small city, but also that you've never organized a community event before.
There is something to be said about crowd estimates as an insult, but it has to be in the context what the expected crowd size was vs the outcome. We expected 400, we got 500- success! It's unreasonable to compare our little pride to the big city pride, which draws crowds that are 20x the population of our city. We were not expecting 700k people, so 500 people is not an insult.
It might be a different story if we were expecting 400 attendees, but instead got 100 attendees and 300 protesters. Thats a different message.
So when people say 'very low attendance, little interest,' its very Trumpish.
And this is also why I took a ton of photos- so I could show what 500 people in a tiny parking lot looks like.
But.
Low attendance does not stop community pride events. We'd put on pride festivals if the expected attendance was one five-person polycule and their nervous bichon frise.
