★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀ kasey says ⠀ — ⠀ ... ⠀i've been playing around in my drafts for a while with other fic groups but none of them get very far into the plot line phase of drafting. they have names, lineups, and even full discographies but nothing story wise. sadly, due to how impulsively i posted belladonna, they fall into the same trap. rather than being upset about this and just deleting the blog, i thought the best course of action would be turning it into something for the greater kcverse and superbloom media lore since there hasn't been much.

some things i have planned:

rewriting the confirmed list of favorite artists under superbloom — gives an insight into the lore, why some artists are treated better than others, etc.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀CURSE OF CAPULET is the fictional debut mini—album by the idol band BELLADONNA released on February 14, 2024. After their win on Superband, Belladonna would take five months to write and produce their first album with the help of Plastic Flowers SALEM and OLIVER and former Lush member DALLAS LINWOOD. Along with the songs written by the members, Salem had gifted them an old draft, RENEWAL, which was supposed to appear on Wind and Rain in 2019 but was replaced with another song. The album takes on themes of love, desperation, mortality, and the inevitability of fate with their concept changing from girlhood to medieval and renaissance imagery, often seeing the girls depicted as saints. The album had one title track, BURN ALIVE, but RENEWAL was also promoted as a b-side.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀Curse of Capulet comes from the play Romeo and Juliet by Williams Shakespeare as it's themes closely resemble the overall meaning of their debut album. It is a reference to Mercutio's death in Act III, scene I in which he curses both the Capulets and Montagues with "a plague o' both your houses!", blaming both of them for his death. He wants Romeo to know that he blames the feuding families for his fate and remind Romeo that his love for Juliet was the reason for his death to Tybalt, Juliet's short tempered cousin. The album was released with TWO versions: ROMEO and JULIET, with the back cover featuring quotes from both characters alongside the tracklist.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀TRACKLIST.

‘ # 001.⠀ ⠀OLIM ──── written by kwak yulli, produced by oliver song, and performed by belladonna. olim is an introduction track to belladonna's debut track and mimics catholic hymns, with the word olim itself representing the beginning of a fairytale. the translation goes as: "once, long ago God arrived in this age of brightness / He will come again" and is repeated twice. all members of belladonna referred to this as the hardest recording session that they've ever had. the idea was brought up by oliver as a joke, but yulli saw it as the perfect time to flex her old latin skills from attending catholic skills. it was almost cut completely, but the girls were able to save it at the last minute.

‘ # 002.⠀ ⠀TITLE TRACK: BURN ALIVE ──── written and produced by bae haena, performed by kwak yulli. in their debut single, belladonna comes out swinging as they depict themes of addiction, self-destruction, and the sacrifices made for love. the main imagery of the song is a toxic relationship where both parties are consumed by their vices and are unable to break the cycle of destructive patterns. because of this relationship, they are no longer who they aspired to be and desire to capitalize on their own pain, a reflection on modern society.

‘ # 003.⠀ ⠀THEATRE ──── written by ko sarang, produced by dallas linwood, performed by kwak yulli. theatre explores the desire for love and acceptance through the lens of a theatrical performance. it delves into the idea of yearning for a love that feels like it belongings in a grand gesture from a movie or performance. the narrator is willing to go through the motions by pretending and faking emotions just to fulfill this dream of being loved. they yearn to be loved and adored as a film star, swept up in a fantasy where all their desires are achieved.

‘ # 004.⠀ ⠀FORTUNATE ISLES ──── written by kim eulsun and kim wonhui, produced by dallas linwood, and performed by kwak yulli. this song is often the one that gets the most criticism as professionals and netizens alike believe it doesn't fit the sound of the album. however, the girls are always ready to double down on how much they love the song. taking it's name from the greek island where all their greatest heroes lived, fortunate isles conveys the story of a letter being delivered to an ex lover who isn't quiet over their relationship yet, asking to be reborn in spring so they can live together forever.

‘ # 005.⠀ ⠀RENEWAL ──── written and produced by salem kueakulsri, performed by kwak yulli. renewal was a gift to the members of belladonna from plastic flowers leader, salem kuekulsri. in an instagram live, she confirmed that it had intended to be a plastic flowers song, but it was cut and eventually left in her vault of music. she said that she gave it to belladonna to remind them that they always hold the power in their lives and as a way to keep them strong. it explores themes of personal growth and resilience in the face of adversity, wanting to start anew and find solace in oneself after experiencing setbacks and challenges. by "growing a new plant in your head", the narrator can reach a new sense of personal transformation and optimism, leaving anyone that doubted them behind.

‘ # 006.⠀ ⠀LOVERS ──── written by bae haena, produced by oliver song, performed by kwak yulli. haena is quickly establishing herself as the queen of heartbreaking ballads in the group and fans absolutely love it. in this slower track, yulli really shines vocally as she laments on a relationship that failed, but only just realizing how good she had it. with only two verses and a chorus, their message comes across very well as they repeat "i wish you were with me" and "me as yours, you as mine".

‘ # 007.⠀ ⠀PAGAN POETRY ──── written by kwak yulli, produced by oliver song and dallas linwood, performed by kwak yulli. this song explores the spiritual connection between two people as the singer s pedalling through the dark currents and finding an accurate copy of another's pleasure inside of her. this connection is described as a secret code carved into black lilies, something deeply romantic and spiritual. the concept of paganism is reflected in the individual's connection to the divine as deeply personal and the beauty and spiirtualiy is celebrated.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS: 200,000 sales in the first week and a nomination on every major south korea music show. fans were unable to get them a win, but they would only place behind the actual winner by a few points, making it possible for the next era.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀belladonna's fandom name, DOVES, would be announced by the girls in a video on how to cheer for burn alive. it was chosen because doves are often seen as a symbol of peace, freedom, or love—all things their fans provided for belladonna.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀the budget was the talk of the town. everyone was supervised to see how lavish and beautiful their concept photos, music videos, and performance outfits were. it drove poppies mad and they demanded for equal treatment for the two.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ fan wars started between DOVES and POPPIES as soon as it was confirmed salem and oliver were working on the album. many accused belladonna of not being able to write or produce their own music, which is objectively not true as seen by their superband run, and were just overall nasty towards the girls.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ enough about plastic flowers! DALLAS LINWOOD was praised for his work on the album! after announcing his retirement from performing, most were excited to see him working on music again and he did not disappoint on these arrangements.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ belladonna performed and WON their first time on immortal songs: singing the legends. they were on the PATTI KIM episode and sang MOTHER'S HEART IN SEOUL! it was praised by the older generation of domestic netizens and the girls will definitely be returning.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀all of the girls were supposed to have their natural hair colors for this promotional period, but haena had over plans. without telling superbloom, she bleached her own hair and it surprisingly came out well! when the company found out, she was forced to tone it and it remained a white color.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀they were given a reality show called THE BELLA'S, which was filled with fun challenges and the girls getting to know each other! it's a loved series by fans and is still being uploaded even after promotions ended. they had a whole episode on haena's hair, which was an instant classic.

In the guide below, you will get to know the FIVE MEMBERS and how they later formed their band. From a young age, KO SARANG knew that she would become someone important. As the oldest child of four, she was a natural leader and was always parading her younger siblings in whatever schemes she created. She would learn how to play the piano from her mother, a music teacher, and that bonded them together. It was their special time and while her other siblings learned, she was the only one that remained interested in it as she grew older. Sarang aced all of her subjects with ease, not needing to apply herself beyond the bare minimum to achieve high marks and instead focused her time on music. Knowing how small the indie scene was, Sarang auditioned for SM Entertainment and passed their infamous SATURDAY audition on the third time.

Though her parents did not want to see her go, they allowed Sarang to join the company in 2017. In 2019, she would be revealed as a new SM ROOKIE and was rumored to debut alongside NINGNING in their newest girl group, which would debut as AESPA in 2020. For unknown reasons, she would not be chosen for the line-up and transfer to Mystic Story Entertainment, one of SM's subsidiaries. Wanting to create a second LUCY, Mystic would send SARANG and two of her fellow trainees to audition for Superband, though only Sarang would make it on the show.

While on Superband, SARANG would audition as a PIANIST and VOCALIST. However, due to BELLADONNA not having anyone that could play the drums, she volunteered to try it out and actually found it to be fun. She would be praised for the switch, however, a lot of work would need to be put into her skills before she would be considered "good". Wanting to prove herself, she remained dedicated and would form a close partnership with fellow contestant JIN JUNSEO, who taught Sarang everything she knows.

KIM WONHUI always wanted to be an idol. She dreamed of sharing the stage with the members of Girls Generation and Twice, her two favorite groups, and looking that beautiful on stage. However, due to her family's poor economic condition, she was unable to join one of the training academies and was going to give up on the dream until being street casted by Superbloom Media in 2015. She was supposed to debut as a member of CELATUM that next year, however, that would fall through as the higher-ups did not believe she was ready. Seeing that she needed something else to help stand out against the other girls, she would learn anything she could get her hands on. From instruments to calligraphy, Wonhui worked day and night to prepare herself in every category of idolhood, even beginning to write her own music in 2018.

However, time seemed to tick on and WONHUI was left in the dust by her company. She made her first public appearance as a trainee on TIMEFIGHTER in 2021, but was eliminated quickly and sent back to the training faculties with no corrections. They just believed that her time had not "come" yet, whatever that meant. She would spend the next two years considering her next moves. The trainee debt was the reason that she stayed, knowing that her parents would not be able to pay such drastic fees and remains under the company, hoping that they would just make her an in-house producer or something.

After EIGHT years of training, Superbloom sent her on Superband to represent their company, though it was never confirmed until after the show had finished airing. Due to this "advantage", many fans believe that BELLADONNA's win was rigged due to Wonhui being under them already and how much sway Superbloom Media had over the show. Superbloom and WONHUI would never acknowledge this, but it is a frequent debate amongst Doves and other fandoms on Twitter.

HAENA BAE was a difficult child for her single mother. Born right as Elena Bae lost her job and her boyfriend, she was forced to return to Seattle, Washington under the care of her parents. She was never able to get into contact with Haena's father again, leaving her truly alone in this world as she struggled to find another job due to the economic crash. She tried to give Haena the best life, however, that was lost on the girl as she spent her entire childhood jealous of her classmates. After begging, she was allowed to rent the school's flute and join their music program while in the third grade, wanting to fit in with her best friends at the time. This desire to fit in would follow Haena as she grew older, leading to very troublesome teen years.

At the age of fifteen, she was invited to her first basement party by an upperclassmen boy and would continue down a tough spiral of partying every weekend. By the time she was eighteen, she was forced to get help by her mother and had to take a gap year from university to stop her habits from developing into an addiction. Her only moment of peace was attending her best friend's garage band performances, where she would learn the bass from IMOGEN, who would later become her girlfriend.

Imogen would become her reason to get help and by 2020, she was completely sober and seemed happy with her life. However, this would be ruined by Imogen cheating while at university, which HAENA chose not to attend for her own health. After months of sulking, she took a trip to visit her mother's sister in Seoul and immediately fell in love with the city. Not long after, she would move in with her aunt and get a job as a English teacher's aid at a local preschool. While there, she would rediscover her love of music and push herself to get back out there. She saw Plastic Flowers during their early days at Cheeky's and knew that she would be up there one day. She signed up for the third season of Superband in their BASS category and due to her unique playing style, would be sought after by many musicians before being taken by Yulli.

KIM EULSUN, born on March 1, 2002, was supposed to inherit her family's travel empire. She was promised the company and much more from a young age by her father, however, when he died in 2015 and left the business in the hands of her older step-brother, Eulsun moved in with her maternal grandparents. The move was hard on the girl as she went from living lavishly to having to help support them and their failing restaurant in the countryside. Her mother had been born into the poor family but due to her intelligence and beauty, made a name for herself in the business world and that was where she met Eulsun's father. However, her mother would die of breast cancer when Eulsun was seven and her father was quick to remarry, fracturing Eulsun's relationship with them. Rather than spending time with his only daughter, she was pawned off to nannies and other caretakers, who seemed to care more about Eulsun than her father did.

While living with her grandparents, Eulsun would learn how to play the piano from her grandfather and discovered that she did have a real passion—music. She would continue learning and discovering new artists, trying to listen to a new album every single day in 2019. However, she knew that music was not going to lead her into a good career path. If she was lucky, she could make it, but there seemed to be nothing for her. She went back to SEOUL to study business and try to recreate her mother's dreams of owning her own beauty company. During her time at university, she would join the band SWEET TRIP, which operated on weekends and was not a serious venture for any of the members until 2023.

Her bandmate, YEEUN, would be the one to propose their appearance on SUPERBAND. She had seen what it had done for bands like Plastic Flowers, The Rose, and Lucy and knew that they were talented enough to appear on the show. Though all four members auditioned to be on Superband, only Eulsun and Yeeun were chosen to represent them on the show. Eulsun would be apart of the GUITARIST category, though she was heavily praised for her vocals from the initial audition.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀ BACKGROUND INFORMATION.

KWAK YULLI was born on November 22, 2002 in Daejeon, South Korea as the third and final child in her family, which was composed of her parents and two older sisters—Yura and Yulhui. Compared to most of her members, she would grow up well with her mother being an English literature professor at a local university and her father former lawyer but dropped down to paralegal after Yulli was born. Given her parent's professions, it's no surprise that academics were highly praised in their household. However, Yulli would be diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of seven and be placed in a separate reading class to help build her skills. Despite this, Yulli was known for her optimistic and bright personality, becoming a very popular member of her classes due to how kind she was.

As part of an exchange program, Yulli would move to the suburbs of Montréal, Quebec, Canada from the ages of ten to fourteen. Her mother wanted all of her children to have a grasp on the English language and saw immersion as the best way to go about it. Due to her dyslexia, English would prove to be much harder for Yulli than Korean and she would be placed in extra English classes by the school. Though her older sisters raved about the experience and program, the same could not be said about Yulli. She stayed with a very traditional Roman Catholic family, who would place her in their choir program where she learned to sing. Rather than feeling welcomed by the family, she felt like a burden and recalls often feeling left out and made to feel "different" from them.

In 2016, Yulli would return to her parents in Daejeon as a much different person. Rather than smiling brightly and radiating happiness, she would lock herself in her bedroom and blare loud music to drown everything out. She would purchase her first guitar that same year, which became her solace and her prized possession. For years, she would just write poems and the beginnings of lyrics without ever doing anything with them. In 2020, she would tune into the second season of SUPERBAND and begin pushing herself to make more music.

Yulli began posting on every social media website that she could find and formed a small community of fans, primarily female, that loved her raw lyrics and simple instrumentals. When Superband's THIRD season was announced in late 2022, she made it her goal to get on and show everything she had. Her parents, surprisingly, supported her dream after seeing how much happier music seemed to make her than traditional studies. In 2023, she would be introduced to the public in the VOCALIST category of Superband, quickly becoming a fan favorite, and was the mastermind behind the formation of BELLADONNA.
