There’s something so poetic to me about Vash’s favorite food being doughnuts.

Fried dough is a recipe so old, so universal among people. It’s served as a sweet food much of the time.

When humanity crashes on the desert planet and only a tiny microcosm of the entire Earth survives, there was bound to be strife. Caught up in a war between the very beings that keep them alive, there’s little hope for survival.

Fried dough might’ve become a constant, a unifier between people. Across his travels, Vash makes connections. He laughs, cries, and eats among the humans that his brother desperately tried to wipe out.

And the shape of a doughnut, an unbroken ring except for a hole in the middle, possibly symbolizes the relationship Vash has with humanity. He’s sweet, he connects himself to others, but in his core, there is something missing.
