Severance is actually insane for making calling out of work a major point of tension/plot. because it's true, when we call out of work i know so many people--myself included--feel subconsciously compelled to craft the perfect excuse to avoid being perceived as lazy or ungrateful by their employer. but we watched in real time how his lie unintentionally permitted Milchick to push personal boundaries even further by asking for his exact location, which is insanely creepy for an employer to do, but he was taking the ground mark was giving. and then!!!! mark pivots and gives no excuse. "I just want a day off, and no you don't need to know why" and suddenly milchick's power is gone. the dynamic shifts right back to mark, and milchick is reminded "this is just a job." it's just a job! everything he's doing is just a job, and they can pretend they have power outside of lumon all the want, but they don't have power if their employees don't give it to them

y'all, it was always going to end this way. from the moment mark scout told mark s. about reintegration, it was always going to end this way. mark scout literally looked mark s. in the eyes and said "we're going to have a life, and it's going to my life. we're going to live in my house with my wife and have the life i want. and you're going to like it because you're an extension of me." he didn't see mark s. as a person and that, in the end, was his greatest downfall.
mark s. did what mark scout asked. he fought his way to the elevator and he ran ms. casey to the stairs so she could be gemma again in the outside world. he saved the poor, tortured, woman trapped in lumon's basement because that was the right thing to do. but then, when faced with a choice between dying forever or turning around to try and somehow have a life of his own? with the woman he loves? of course he turned around.
this doesn't have anything to do with which ship is better or what was the most logical thing to do or even what mark and helly are going to do now. the point is mark s. stood there at the door, at the literal precipice of death, and said "i want to live. i want to live. i want to live." and come on, wouldn't you do the same?

What is it about Gemma scout that makes wasians gravitate towards her (me included)
oh boy you're opening up a can of worms here, i hope you knew what you were signing up for when you sent this to me...
honestly i think it's a number of things. the first thing that comes to mind is her race, of course. now we don't know if gemma is canonically wasian, but her actress is, and we can safely assume her character is tibetan (just like dichen) based on her usage of "chomolungma" and "chikhai bardo" in 2x07 which are both tibetan terms. the world of severance really only started touching on race this season with milchick's storyline so we haven't seen the ways that gemma's race has affected her life or treatment thus far, but we can make some assumptions.
in my opinion, the two innies that i think have the strongest racial themes (specific to asian women) are ms. casey and gemma's allentown innie.
there is still a lot of speculation on why ms. casey is like that but i personally believe it's a combination of gemma's special chip, social isolation, and a handful of stints in the break room. regardless, lumon turned the resistant, calculated gemma that we know into the meek, resigned ms. casey. the perfect asian woman, by society's standards. she's soft spoken, she does as she's told, she performs emotional labor for almost the entirety of her life, and she never complains. not even when she's sentenced to death.
then with allentown!gemma, i think the juxtaposition of mauer as her "husband" is kind of a caricature of the white man seeking an asian ~waifu~. while allentown!gemma isn't the docile woman that mauer clearly wants her to be (which is also fascinating to watch her flip the script!), there is still a clear air of entitlement that mauer feels towards her. not only does he pressure her into telling him she loves him, his smug ass also sits in his comfortable chair while gemma agonizes over these dozens and dozens of thank you cards that he forces her to write with her non-dominant hand. it's giving "my wife cooks and cleans and takes care of all the house work while i scratch my balls all day." she also wears red and sits on the ground, which are both symbolic in many asian cultures, but i'm not sure if that was intentional.
i also think her situation in general is something that a lot of us can relate to on some level. she's trapped in a space where she has to heavily monitor her own words, behaviors, and body language to survive. she has to be vigilant and smart, but she can't let on too much or else the people around her will use it against her. it might not be to this extent, but a lot of people of color use masking/code switching in a similar manner to survive.
also she's, like, really hot.

Mark Scout returning home from work to find Petey missing, immediately going to look for him, finding him just in time to watch him die, and being too afraid/overwhelmed to stay by his side and running away instead. Mark Scout shoving the last physical evidence of Petey, his phone, into a box like all of Gemma’s belongings.
Mark S., the day after Petey’s funeral, ending his workday and returning “home” (MDR) to find Helly gone. Mark S. arriving at the elevator just in time to discover her hanging body. Mark S. holding her, helping her down, and refusing to leave her side until he’s ordered, forcefully, to get in the elevator.
Mark S. having no memory of how he just watched his best friend die in front of him and still atoning for it by refusing to let it happen again. The grief and guilt transcending severance along with the love. The inevitable reckoning Mark S. will have to face within himself when he gets Mark Scout’s memories and knows there is a version of himself that would run away from a dying friend rather than face the pain and fear.
