When the sky cracked open like a cheap mirror

and the sea swallowed the highways,

we held hands in the wreckage—

two ghosts in denim jackets,

lipstick smeared from kissing and crying.

They said it was the end,

but we knew that meant freedom—

no more rules, no more closets,

just the taste of ash and sugar on our tongues

as we slow-danced under a dying moon.

You laughed, said,

"At least we won’t have to explain ourselves anymore,"

and I laughed too,

because even the apocalypse

couldn’t make us straight.

We painted our nails with blood and rain,

read old zines by candlelight,

and made love like it was rebellion—

like maybe the stars would notice

and decide to stay a little longer.

The world ended,

but we didn’t.

Not really.

Our love was the last thing

still burning.

I never used to, but now I think skinwalkers are real.

I've run into the heavy forest behind our house,

It's getting dark,

And I've never seen you come outside.

I remember once, before all this, 

I was outside for 20 minutes, and you were so worried, you called the cops.

I've been out here, in the cold for a few hours, I've never seen you even look out the window.

I miss you,
