It’s Maia’s fault!

Maia and I met when we were 11. We met when we auditioned for a TV show back in Australia. She got the role and I didn’t. We became friends and lost contact for some time. When I arrived at LA I found Maia 7 years later in the same hotel I was staying.

That world is a little overwhelming for me, the whole social media world. It’s an aggressive form of social media; it’s there all the time. Fans are very passionate, but, as I said, it’s a great thing to be a part of. I did suddenly see a lot more of that and I remember Eliza saying, ‘did you see this? picture being with the girl you love for the rest of your life. meeting her, dating, skipping class to go to the seaside on nice days, just doing all the fun things that you should when you’re young and in love.

picture moving in together, the thrill when you get your keys and the excitement you both feel when you walk in for the first time and know you’re walking into YOUR appartment.

going furniture shopping, arguing over which colour scheme would look best in your bedroom and which sofa you should buy.

(she wants the ugly one, she says it has ‘character’. you think it’s just ugly, but the light in her eyes when you agree to buy it means more than getting a nice couch.)

baking muffins and cakes together, not without getting flour all over both of you, and going door to door greeting your neighbours, “hi, me and my girlfriend just moved in to the flat downstairs,” and they respond with smiles and offers for tea and biscuits, or showing you around, “look out for mary in the bottom flat, she’ll try to set you up with her grandson!”

(granted, mary next door tries to set you up with her grandson, but once you introduce her to your girl, she loudly says that she wouldn’t want to break up such sweethearts. she’s lovely really, promises to make you both sweaters.)

picture going on holidays together and not having to part ways when you come back. shaking the sand out of your clothes, hanging up all the magnets and postcards all over your tiny kitchen, laughing and kissing all the freckles on her face brought out by the sun.

during the summer going on hikes, and roadtrips, and picnics, and camping, and community barbeques, and garden parties, and long walks, to forests and seasides and parks.
