Jeff Mills-The Jungle Planet

The Detroit techno magnate delivers his second LP of 2013.

Jeff Mills has announced details of his next album, The Jungle Planet, set for release through his own Axis Records in September.

The LP is the next instalment in Mills’ Sleeper Wakes science fiction story about the “last surviving human”, according to the label, and comes in a double 12″ gatefold vinyl version as well as a “black USB cube” – very Jeff.

The Jungle Planet is his second full-length this year following Where Lights Ends, a collaboration with Japanese astronaut Mamoru Mohri, although it was originally scheduled for release late last year, with the rather beautiful artwork (below) revealed by artist Julien Pacaud back in August 2012. As part of FACT’s 10th birthday celebrations we recently unearthed a head-to-head interview between Mills and the don of British radio broadcasting, John Peel. Just as exciting was a rediscovered trove of classic ’80s mixes made by Mills under his The Wizard guise – they are an absolute must-listen.

A new name has entered the EDM scene: Viente & Airen. Making an outstanding first impression with their debut track on the Black Hole imprint, the two present their name with music that makes it clear to keep an eye on other material they have up their sleeve. Focusing completely on the strong build up of their fully instrumental track, Viente & Airen use note after note give way to the theme of their track. With a slightly classic undertone, the track unwraps a subtle composition with slightly techy beats, a superb synth hook and good old lengthy break. In the past two decades, many tracks by the same title or with the word voices in it, have reached a classic status. Echonomist drops a serious 3 tracker for Dessous in the form of the 'Keys To Life' EP. The young Greek native, also known for his various aliases as INFO, The Scientifics and one half of the Petter Pann duo, here delivers his most upfront work in a while.

'Keys to Life' feat. G-Tech is a raw edged, driving, underground banger. A dirty three-note baseline holds the whole thing together while fizzing hi-hats provide the counterpoint. The spoken word vocals from G-Tech (George Rontiris) place this firmly within the Detroit tradition - and this track will not be out of place alongside some of the greats of that scene.   Elsewhere on this release, the Kyodai Remix continues the vibe, but takes proceedings a shade deeper. A sublime, shuffling beat is particularly effective here, underpinning the twist the track takes around halfway into a more spacey direction.

'Fair Ride' completes the EP- and sees Echonomist in serious heads-down-house-mode. A sparkling synths, tight drum programming and a perfectly realized vocal loop meld to form a disco-tinged, deep house groover - look out for this one!

Hype text from Local Talk Recordings From the very first second we heard this demo from Stockholm based producer Claes Rosen (1/2 of dubstep duo L-Wiz) we knew this would be one of our fave releases on Local Talk. Seriously, its a real beauty! With a slight r&b touch, melodic chords and UK house rhythms both tracks have that perfect contrast of soulful deepness and an uplifting feel. On the a-side Daydreaming is a club friendly track with a bumpy house rhythm and smart r&b samples. The perfect summer tune! The b-side with Wonderful is exactly what is says it is wonderful!
