Why Self Love Is Important?
Self-love is the totality of emotions and cognitive predispositions associated with the self-evaluation that an individual makes of themselves. In other words, it’s about the way we make self-evaluations, including here the emotional charging of self-concept (the “I-concept”) evaluations. When we talk about self-love, we’re referring to self-esteem, and this last term is the most commonly used in psychology.
So when a person tends to view themselves negatively or pessimistically, we say they lack or have low self-esteem, and when they tend to have an overly optimistic or inflated view of “I,” we say he has too high self-esteem, which can also lead to problems.
The key lies in having a balanced sense of self-worth, adjusted to the real abilities and moral qualities that really define us. In practice, however, problems related to low self-esteem are more common, which occurs when self-esteem is so low that it “paralyzes” the person, leaving him in a state of resignation and a certain passivity in the face of his prospects for getting better.
What problems can low self-esteem cause?
There are a variety of mental disorders (emotional, cognitive and/or behavioral) linked to a lack of self-esteem and to fully understand them it is best to engage in psychotherapy where they will be analyzed on a case-by-case basis . case by case depending on the needs and characteristics of the individual, the person and the context in which they live.
