One of your recent asks got me thinking, what is going to happen when V2 eventually hits its own expiration? How will Michael feel or what could he possibly do in this scenario?

i like to think michael and v2 tend to be much more...well-prepared for this eventuality than gabriel and v1 were. they're not sure how long v2 can go, given that through hell's meddling it's essentially cheated death, but it likely also isn't forever. however, v2 is aware of this and, again contrary to v1, is much better at not getting stuck on existentialist dread and instead working on a solution to its death. they both know it may be inevitable, but in the same way v2 takes up a lot of research in helping michael maintain his body, michael learns to be quite a skilled mechanic and v2 likely becomes something of a ship of theseus with the two consistently replacing its parts (michael becomes highly adept at modifying scrap - with the help of access to heaven's forge - to copy v2's parts). this does lead v2 to question its identity at some points, stemming all the way back to its original reconstruction, but it comes to the conclusion that this may just be the nature of the machine...or perhaps of living far beyond one's life expectancy.

v2 knows its mind is the most delicate part of itself though, a perfectly balanced quantum computer that must be maintained as the core part of itself because there's no scrap that can replace it in any other machine. this was the point of failure for v1 as well, and they're pretty doubtful hell would be feeling generous a second time. in a timeline where v2 continues to survive, i like to think it's maintained itself much better than v1 and so observes all that happens with it when it dies including its subsequent resurrection, inspiring it and michael in a likely similar capacity. to build a quantum computer, but one augmented by the divine, engineered by v2 and constructed in the heavenly forge by michael with both collaborating on the alignment of the crystal structure within it. v2 understands its own configuration and how to improvement upon it, while michael's knowledge of esoteric mathematics allow them to build a computer powered by the divine. uriel's knowledge base proves invaluable for this endeavor and it takes quite some time (many, many failures in prototyping, plus likely having the realization they'll need to also construct a more heavenly shell given that this computer would melt repurposed scrap lol), but i enjoy v2 being the first divine computer. importantly, this isn't a shift like v1's, who is now essentially part angel, part machine - v2's is subtler, still entirely a machine but now running on perfect, godly equations. it almost has a hard time keeping up with itself at first but it isn't put off by it since it was once a machine that was too human, so now it's a machine too divine.

however, i will add that in the event v2 reached the end of its lifespan, i think michael would seek his comfort in the idea that he cannot possibly last forever either. he knows he will die, he knows he will reach his end too, and v2 has proven, at least in his mind, that it has a soul. he would commit it to the earth, where it was born and what it had always wanted to protect, and he would join it there when he finally felt himself wilting. maintaining his faith as he does, michael would truly believe v2 is waiting somewhere for him, that the code woven by that computer is no different from DNA, that the mind it housed, all its emotions, its thoughts, its consciousness, had given it a spark of the divine. that humanity, from god, had passed down their soul to this grandchild of creation. its place is not in heaven or hell, but somewhere he doesn't know yet, somewhere finally fully beyond the physical where it doesn't need a body or blood. he's not sure if that means he's at last given into some kind of heresy, but he will continue to pray each day, asking v2 to help guide him when he finally joins it.

it's honestly my little cozy au ToT there is kind of the idea that they were still left behind by god, but it's like ? so far past that point i think of it as a post-post apocalypse where they're all just kind of vibing and the main problems are just day to day running of the farm. it's really just there to play with and not think too hard about at all....i love them

If Uriel knows everything would he restlessly study anything new since he's lost the holy Spiritus influence? (theoretically ofc since god's dead)

he does, although it constantly picks at him that he can't possibly know every little change and movement still taking place in creation. to uriel, the unknown is something different than it is to most others, consisting not just of major developments but also every single detail that goes into them - if a new beetle species springs up on the healing earth, it isn't enough to know it exists because uriel once would have known and recorded what every single individual of that species is doing at all times. he feels impossibly limited being cut off from god's sight, leaving him overly anxious because he feels his awareness of the world around him is so constantly lacking now. his aides begin to work extra hard to assist him, going out on scouting trips to bring back as much information as they can so he can continue his works...and eventually uriel starts to join them. he has spent his eternity writing all the workings of the world, a ceaseless observer that never touched all he had recorded, and so there is some merit in finally having the time to actually see the entries that pique his interest. nothing can replace the eyes of god for him, but the world no longer being contained to an abstract in a book isn't a bad compromise.

hii just letting you know that all your work related to v1s creators especially with me having an oc (Amit) who originally created blood fuel... though they're pretty different as they DO regret what they did and refuse to admit they're proud of how far the machines have come.

anyways. i wonder if some of its creators regret any of their actions. Maybe before or after seeing the violence it causes. Maybe even trying to shut the project down completely? Every person is different and im sure people had conflicting ideas about something like this idk. Some may have been proud to create something as complex, while others maybe just be doing it because its seen as necessary for the war. Idk i just want to know your thoughts on its creators! :]

WAUUUUGHHHHH AMIT IS SUCH A GOOD OC,,,,,if i can just. tell you how much i enjoy their concept for a second because i think you REALLY nailed the feel of ultrakill with them, like they suit the universe incredibly well and perfectly slot into the lore in their design + punishment. ESPECIALLY especially because we now know the machines are partially flesh, and so it's this ultimate, horrible end to that idea, to have the soul now locked into the machine in the same way. that soul still "living" still conscious of itself and what it must do, what it has done, UGH i love love their whole thing. im sorry if im bad at expressing my thoughts, im just so impressed by them, the execution is stunning!!!!

BUT OK YES YEA I LOVE V1'S CREATORS.....OR THE IDEA OF THEM....i think of them as a core team of 3 people, "named" for the three wisemen of the bible - melchior is the lead designer, while balthazar creates the software and caspar creates the hardware and they're. eccentric as a group to say the least.

melchior is by far the most detached from what they're making, instead viewing v1 as a piece of art, a magum opus before their inevitable death. it's not really in a mad scientist way, melchior just genuinely believes they can achieve a machine that is far beyond what has been produced before and will live on far into the future to challenge newer generations (they don't really conceive of war ever ending, and instead think of life in terms of conforming to and building around war). i talked about them a bit earlier, but they have dealt with severe lung damage from the air that has left them in progressively declining health which contributes a lot to their focus on v1.

balthazar is the most level-headed in viewing v1 for what it is and is the most conflicted about what they're all making. he must constantly push its ai, improving it over and over again into an uncomfortable territory of adaptive intelligence for what it must do, and knowing how smart previous generations have been, balthazar is aware v1 could achieve advanced sentience. they have to do this, they have to find a way to stop the earthmovers, but what can the ultimate war machine be with a thinking mind? it's existential dread that largely grips balthazar, but the concerns are unheard by melchior who only enthuses about the idea of it.

caspar is desperate for v1 to end this, she is so exhausted with living in suits, in heavy gas masks, never seeing the sky or breathing the air like people once did. she makes whatever melchior wants work and she can often be found removing her gloves and lifting her visor to feel and see v1 directly (both caspar and melchior snap at her for this, but she always ignores them). caspar doesn't consider the implications, because in her mind v1 is the end of this - the war stops with it and she wants to be sure it has the body to do it (she really is the reason v1 can run on 1 hp at full capacity lol)

the three work incredibly well in sync and i think they have a lot of trust in one another for what they can do, but only balthazar and caspar live to see v1 "fully" completed - i really do like the idea that melchior donates their heart after their death (I GOT. whole ideas about video diaries they leave that are found by v2, very weird for it since it never got to meet them!!!!) those two finish the prototype at least, but i'm not sure on the timeline after this since v1's development is entirely halted due to the new peace. which is. a weird fucking thing for the two of them, an achievement of really what they both wanted but with their hard work benched pending v2's development and melchior's dream effectively dying not soon after them. they are both instrumental in advocating for its preservation, with both modifying it to hopefully make it through what may be a forever stasis by reinforcing its body and mind. v1 remembers them all only vaguely, usually if its memory is jogged by something it sees, though gabriel does try to assist in this since he believes it's important for v1 to recall its "family". hopefully i can get around to posting all of their designs soon as well as their updated husk looks!!

It's really cool seeing Michael turning the punishment of turning into a tree like in dante's inferno and ultrakill into such a positive outcome

this is especially true considering the fact that michael likely would have gone to that round of violence, given that he attempted to sever his own light. it fits well into what his character is too, as this lost part of god's kingdom that has to reform from the ashes of a self he can barely remember and reclaim an identity he doesn't even recall having. it acts as a good culmination, to heal and to thrive through what must have been the punishment that had awaited him if he had succeeded....to grow into something that was a starkly cruel, unforgiving piece of god's morality. it can finally be released, rescinded in what this new world can achieve on its own apart from a creator so forever discontent with it. it mends the prince of angels instead, weaves into him not to lock him into place, not to deny his autonomy, but to finally let him have his freedom, have himself.
