      she’s been up a total of forty-eight hours without a moment of sleep. her mother’s ex-boyfriend did a number on her and she ended up in the emergency room. juliet hasn’t left her side, even as the woman’s been asleep for most of it. she’s curled up in a chair by her mother’s bedside and she has a hold on one of her hands, squeezing it every once in awhile. tears stain her cheeks, but she’s done crying at this point. all of the people juliet knew, knew her mother. she’s basically adopted each and everyone of them, so when romeo walks into the room, juliet isn’t surprised, but she didn’t want him to see her like this. 

     her eyes are glassy and she slowly gets to her feet. “she’s barely woken up,” she says and her voice cracks given she’s hardly used it here. she just listens to the doctors and nurses and the police that have come to get a report from her mother. “i don’t know what to do anymore, she won’t...fuckin’ listen to me about all of these -- “ her jaw clenches and she shakes her head. he doesn’t say a word, but he pulls her close and she rests her head against his chest. she feels his lips press against the top of her head and she takes a deep, shuddering breath. that leads to tears and she wraps her arms around romeo, letting him hug her close.
