i havent listened to all of nervous young man (fake fan) but i do wanna mention

after seeing some reviews saying that it isn't as thematically rich as something like twin fantasy, it's kinda like

yea it doesn't have a narrative, but you're not supposed to listen to it like that (unlike CSH's most popular albums). really, it hits the hardest if you had first listened to everything before it, numbered albums and all.

the album internally isn't a narrative; instead, the album (as one "thing") is the resolution to the narrative of will's art up to that point. you start to notice a lot of musical and lyrical motifs from earlier songs, and will's mastery of songwriting and production shines brightest in comparison to his rougher, earlier albums.

the album cover kinda reinforces this. the perpendicular camera angle (to the wall) of these works of art (one of which is referencing twin fantasy) kinda gives this impression that you're appreciating the aggregate rather than each individual piece. it's kinda like viewing art in a museum but not yet choosing one to directly inspect. thus, it kinda makes sense that this album exists as the culmination of will's skills and themes rather than being an addition to this wall of work.

note that the people saying that only listened to TOD and TF FTF, so it makes sense from their perspective that NYM just seems like a loose collection of really good songs as if it were a b-side album. unfortunately, it's kinda fringe to enjoy listening to something like sAMSON'S GOLDEN AXE to get that "full toledo experience" on this album
